Ronald had been comforting her for a while.
"Kari just went through a tough breakup, she's not in the best place right now. Try to relax, everything will be alright," Ronald reassured her.
Wiping away her tears, Willa confessed, "I really liked Nathan, but he shouldn't have been a part of the Jarvis family-"
Ronald knew all too well that beneath Willa's gentle and virtuous exterior lay a remarkably stubborn spirit.
After Kari's father passed away, many tried to set Willa up with someone new, but all were turned away.
Willa truly loved her husband; how could she easily let go of the man who had been taken from her?
"I know you're worried about me," Willa acknowledged Ronald's concerns. "But rest assured, I'll take good care of myself."
Ronald stayed with Willa for some time, helping her recuperate. Unable to bear seeing Kari overwhelmed with work, Willa decided it was time to go back home.
It was also inappropriate for Ronald to continue staying at Kari's, so he moved out the same day.
Before leaving, Willa prepared a hearty meal as a token of gratitude.
"Ronald, you've been such a big help during this time."
Taking care of her and looking after Kari wasn't easy.
"It's the least I could do," Ronald replied with a gentle smile.
After dinner, Willa retired to her room.
Kari escorted Ronald downstairs, "Bro, thanks for looking after Mom and me these past weeks."
Shaking his head, Ronald was about to respond when he was suddenly shoved aside, and a furious voice erupted.
"Kari, you kick my son to the curb and then shack up with some random guy?!"
Mila was livid, "The nerve of you-"
Kari, disgusted, shot back, "Watch your mouth, Mila!"
"I knew it, you're no good!"
"And to think Nathan did all that for you-"
"Mila," Ronald intervened, shielding Kari with a cold glare at Mila. "Kari and Nathan are over. Please, stay out of our lives from now on."
"And who are you?" Mila scoffed, surprised Ronald dared to stand up to her. "Blinded by Kari, are you? My son was done with her ages ago! You really think she's some kind of angel-" en Ebookex
With a swift kick, Ronald sent Mila reeling, his eyes icy. "The Jarvis family has its own skeletons. If you don't want your husband behind bars, I'd advise you to keep quiet."
Ignoring Mila's continued ranting, Kari watched Ronald get into his car and drive away.
Left fuming, Mila was soon escorted out by security at Kari's behest.
Back in his apartment, Ronald dug into the Jarvis family's dirty secrets, pulling the plug on several of their major deals.
Kari wasn't just his sister; she was more to him, and he'd protect her at all costs.
Buried in work, Ronald had postponed numerous commitments for Kar. Now back to his hectic schedule, he was busier than ever, barely seen for a week.
Willa, missing Ronald, asked Kari to give him a call.
"I'm swamped with work right now, out of town. I'll come to see you once I'm back in Imperial City," Ronald explained over the phone. Worried about his well-being, Willa advised, "Ronald, amidst your work, don't forget to take care of yourself, alright?"
"I will," he assured her, inquiring about Kari before hanging up, "How's Kari holding up?"
"Much better now, the Jarvis family tried to approach a few times, but we turned them away."
After a few comforting words, Ronald ended the call.
Accustomed to Ronald's presence at home, Kari felt his absence keenly, feeling guilty about his workload.
"Ronald's working too hard," she lamented.
Willa sighed, "With so many in the Malone family, Ronald's climb to where he is today wasn't without its hardships."
Kari felt for Ronald, knowing his journey from an illegitimate child to his current status must have required immense sacrifice...
