Chapter 464
The whirring sounds of machines echoed from behind, constantly reminding him that time was slipping away.
After a while, he choked out on the words.
"Give up on the kid."
The doctor handed him the surgery consent form. Isaac numbly signed his name, then slowly walked out of the emergency room, head bowed low.
The doctors behind him exchanged glances before entering the emergency room.
"Prepare for surgery"
The door to the emergency room closed.
Grace and Hannah turned their heads immediately as if waiting for an outcome.
Isaac felt as if he were being stabbed in the chest as he said, "The baby can't make it."
Hannah burst into tears immediately.
Grace took a few steps back, tears welling up in her eyes. Facing her most beloved grandson, she was trembling and speechless. Isaac slowly left.
He couldn't dare stay in the hospital. He couldn't bear to think about Brittany's reaction when she woke up to replace her baby was gone!
He dared not think about the toxins in Brittany's body. What on earth were they?
Isaac wandered aimlessly for a while until he stopped at the entrance of a residential complex.
The security guard stood straight. The gate was engraved with 'Star River Apartment".
That was the house he and Brittany had bought.
He ended up there?
Isaac showed his ID, then stumbled upstairs. The moment he opened the door, he was greeted by a brand new house The curtains, light fixtures, and the $5,000+ couch in the living room were all personally chosen by him and Brittany.
He entered the innermost baby room. Pink and blue intertwined into a net, as if to engulf him completely!
Not knowing the gender of the baby, Brittany and the designer created a gender-neutral room.
He walked to the crib. The price tag was still attached to the crib. It was a $700+ crib.
When Brittany paid for it, she was a bit heartbroken, but the thought of it being for their future baby made it all worth it.
Isaac looked at the crib. There was a line written on it: Kyle Salter.
It was a name he came up with.
A name that could fit a boy or a girl. Brittany loved it too.
She had even gone to church to pray for their child.
They had prayed so devoutly, so why couldn't their child come into this world safely?
Isaac reached out, caressing the name on the crib, his heart aching terribly.
After an indeterminate amount of time, it was getting late, and the room was filled with a cold chill. The urgent ring of the phone broke the silence. It was Nathan.
Isaac answered the phone in a daze and held it to his ear.
"Mr. Salter, the surgery is over. It was a little boy. He was fully formed. Would you like to see him?"
Nathan's voice was a bit strained. Isaac's fingers trembled slightly as he held the phone; a lump of sorrow stuck in his throat. He couldn't make a sound; just quietly hung up the phone. "Kyle. Kyle," the name kept whirling in his head.
Night fell. The phone kept ringing. It was as if Isaac was jolted awake from a nightmare. He slammed the door shut and rushed back to the hospital. He needed to see Kyle!
