Chapter 562
William had always had a great temper; even in the world of journalism, he had a lot of fans.
Hearing such words then, the journalists felt pretty awkward.
Seizing the moment, William said, "You guys have been working hard. My assistant will bring you dinner later. Hope you guys have a good time."
The journalists gave each other awkward glances.
They were trying to sneak some shots and spill the beans, but instead of getting mad, William was offering them dinner?
What was going on?
Brittany knew William was a tough nut to crack and great at handling people. That time, she learned it the hard way. He managed to send the journalists packing with just a few words. She followed William out, walking a few steps.
Then she turned around to the journalists and said, "About my marriage to Mr. Salter, we are not actually married, which I only recently found out.
Whether or not Mr. Salter and I get married, it's our business. We have now reached an agreement to part ways peacefully. I hope you all respect our decision and stop making wild guesses. I don't want to involve innocents.
Before William and I were an item, we were classmates and friends. We never crossed any boundaries."
With those words, she left with William.
"When did she replace out that her marriage to Mr. Salter was not real?"
"Well, she must've been conned!"
"If what Brittany is saying is true, doesn't that make Mr. Salter a con artist?"
Everyone fell silent.
In the office.
The female anchor's voice suddenly stopped, and a mug smashed the TV screen, instantly spreading like a spider web as the screen shattered.
Nathan was scared out of his wits.
After a while, he mustered up the courage to go in, "Mr. Salter, the person has been found. It's... the employee who was fired."
That person somehow got the news and started spreading rumors online, trying to frame Brittany, claiming she was pregnant before marriage, and trying to use the child to become the lady of the Salter family, but the child was gone, and she got nothing.
The rumor spread widely, causing Brittany to be swept into a new round of online attacks.
"Sue him." Nathan glanced at the broken TV, then cautiously looked at Isaac, "Mr. Salter, don't be mad. Ms. Dustin and Mr. Dillion won't last long; just wait a little longer."
"Get out." Isaac couldn't stand the sound of William's name.
Nathan left the office and received a call from Kari Malone, "Nathan, are you free tonight? Can I take you out for dinner?"
"Sure."
Nathan didn't expect Kar to ask him out.
During Brittany's disappearance, he tried to pursue Kari, but she always turned him down.
She resented Isaac because she believed he was responsible for Brittany's death.
So Nathan was blacklisted too.
Since Brittany was back, Kari's attitude had somewhat softened.
Nathan rushed to the restaurant Kari had chosen.
Kari was dressed casually in a white blouse and black pants that outlined her slim waist.
Her long hair hung down, and her delicate features were hidden within.
When Nathan first met Kari, he thought she was a little slow.
After a few encounters, he developed a crush on her, but he didn't expect such a drastic change. In a span of five years, Kari went from being a stranger to his ideal woman.
Nathan approached, feeling quite flattered, "Why did you ask me out?"
"I wanted to thank you for the care you've given me these past five years. Let's go."
Nathan was stunned, nodding his head. His usual sharpness was gone.
Kari chuckled; a light glowed in her eyes, making Nathan's eyes feel warm.
The two entered the restaurant and turned down the private room, choosing a spot by the window.
Just a few steps in, Kari saw Brittany sitting by the window. She quickly walked over.
"Brittany, are you on a date with Mr. Dillion?"
Nathan stood still, frozen in his tracks.
