The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel) -
Chapter 279: Mrs Vivian Shaw
She saw pictures of Martin meeting with her a familiar man. She already knew what this was the moment she saw it. But could not bring herself to believe it. "What is this?"
"You know who the man Mercy is meeting in the picture is, that is the man that killed your father, isn't he. After spending time with the organization, there is no way you did not replace out who he was," he said, and she started replaceing it hard to breathe. "Why?" she asked. She wanted to ask why Mercy was with that man, but instead she asked something else.
"Why tell me this?" She found her voice to ask him.
"You are about to sign a deal tomorrow, should I hide it from you?" he could not hell but ask with a frown. He made to take her hand, but stopped.
"I mean, why are you helping me? You even went as far as to have me as bait but are helping me?" she asked, her voice barely leaving her throat.
"Vivian I do not want you to get hurt. I want you to decide what to do while knowing all the fact. What ever you choose, I will take your side," he said, reaching out to take her hand but she threw it off.
"I am asking why you came back to live with me! Why do you want to help me? You have not hesitated to put me in harms way, but now you are protecting me? Why start now? Why did you suddenly..." she threw a barrage of questions at him. He hands were shaking as she asked this. She was tired of people playing her.
"You are my wife, you have always been my wife since I had our marriage registered. That never changed and never will. As your husband, I should have protected you. Yet I used you. Am I supposed to keep using you? I already did that once, that is not happening again," he said, his eyes hardening as he looked into hers.
Vivian was somewhat disappointed. He felt responsible for her.
His pride must have been pricked when his plan went wrong and she got hurt while she was with him.
She was not sure what she was expecting him to say. That he care for her?
Did she think he would say that he loved her? When had she started to crave his care? Vivian felt stupid.
When Mathew saw the disappointment in her eyes, he felt a slight panic, but she had already looked away. "Why do you suddenly feel responsibility towards me?"
"It doesn't matter why?" Mathew answered, running his hand through his hair in frustration.
"Why?" she asked.
"It seems I have put you in harms way, and it is only right I protect you," Mathew explained.
"So, now you want to protect me. Have I lost my value?" she found herself laughing. She nodded and stood from the table.
Mathew panicked but willed himself to sit still. He wanted to get up, but held back.
"I understand, I will think it through this night. I am not saying I don't trust you, but I need to see that document with my own eyes," she said and walked away.
The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room as Vivian stood before her mirror, her hands trembling slightly as she applied the finishing touches to her makeup.
Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, the events of the previous night were still fresh in her memory as she prepared to face Mercy once more.
Mathew's words echoed through her mind as she adjusted her hair, his warnings and promises intertwining in a way that almost made her crazy in frustration. A part of her wondered if Mathew was just too paranoid. Maybe Mercy would really let her go and not betray her. But she was determined to not delude herself.
Mathew never joked. If she knew anyone well, it was Mathew, and he took everything seriously. He would not make a mistake with this, right?
With a steadying breath, Vivian closed her eyes, attempting to calm herself, yet with each passing moment, she got more confused.
As long as she does not sign, all will be well. If the document they give her bears any resemblance to the one Mathew had taken out last night, all of it would be confirmed.
She emerged from her room a while later and was met with the sight of Mathew waiting for her in the living room, a tray of breakfast spread out on the table before him.
His expression was unreadable as
he watched her approach, his gaze settled on her, a hint of obsession flickering in his eyes. If his eyes were speaking, it was saying: this was his woman.
"Good morning, Vivian," he said, his voice unusually soft. His gentle gaze raked over her, making her slightly uncomfortable.
Vivian forced a smile as she took a seat opposite him at the table. "Good morning, Mathew," she replied, her voice low and anxious.
She still didn't know how to deal with a Mathew that brought her food. In all her time married to him or pretending to be married to him, he had never done such a thing for her. Seeing him waiting for her with a tray of breakfast was a visual she never thought she would ever see. Her heart trembled at the sight.
Mathew gestured to the food before them, his tone casual. "I ordered breakfast for us," he said, his eyes never leaving hers. "I thought we could eat together before you leave."
Vivian's stomach clenched with unease as she glanced down at the food, her appetite evaporated and her anxiety returned.
"That's... thoughtful of you, Mathew," she murmured, her mind raced a bit as she considered all her concerns and fears.
As they ate in silence, Mathew
noticed she was replaceing it hard to swallow. Vivian couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of her stomach, the sense that something was about to go horribly wrong.
"Don't think too much. I am guessing you want to see their document for yourself," he commented, and she nodded.
"Then don't worry. If you get there and the document is the same as mine. Just get up and walk away," he said, and she nodded again.
She felt he was attempting to comfort her.
When they had finished eating, Mathew rose from the table and gestured towards the door.
"I've arranged for guards to accompany you to the location," he said, his tone soft and gentle. "They'll ensure your safety and security." Again, she just nodded listlessly.
"I am leaving now." Vivian said and got up. He stopped her by holding her shoulders firmly.
"Vivian, look at me," he said and she looked up into his deep set eyes.
"This is not a matter of You and Mercy meeting. The 12 guns is
meeting Mrs. Shaw. The entire Shaw family are your hands and feet. What ever you do there, I will take responsibility," he said and she nodded while taking in a deep breath.
As she made her way to the waiting car, Vivian looked deep in thought.
For some reason, Mathew's words calmed her a great deal. She was not sure why she always trusted what he said. But was more confident when the car rolled off.
To meet Mercy again, she was ready.
As the car pulled out onto the busy streets, Vivian's anxiety only grew with each passing moment.
She glanced out the window, her heart pounding in her chest as the towering buildings of the city loomed overhead like silent sentinels.
With trembling hands, she reached into her bag and pulled out the document Mathew had given her the night before, her eyes scanning the words on the page with a frown.
