The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles) -
Chapter 778
Charles turned on the TV. Since it was still early, the two of them snuggled together to watch it. Noelle had already kicked off her shoes and curled up on the couch. When she saw Charles approaching, she patted the spot next to her.
Charles sat down, pulling Noelle into his arms and letting her rest comfortably. One hand held the remote while the other gently stroked her forehead. "Ronald has been with me for many years. If you ever need anything and I'm not around, just go straight to him." "Okay!" Noelle nodded cheerfully. She stretched out her right hand, admiring the shiny ring on her finger while feeling incredibly happy. "Charlie."
"Hmm?" Charles raised an eyebrow. "What's up?"
"I love you!" Noelle straightened up, then wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him there.
Charles smirked as he held her close, nuzzling her nose. "What brought this on, hmm? What do you want?"
"Nothing." Noelle blushed, lowering her head. She played with her ring and then reached for Charles'. "I just realized I love you even more now."
"Is that so?" Charles leaned in closer with one arm around her waist as he used the other to support himself on the couch. He whispered into her ear, "Well, it just so happens that I love you even more too."
Noelle's heart pounded uncontrollably, beating so fast she could barely keep it in check. She clutched her chest and felt the wild thumping. "This is so embarrassing!" she muttered to herself.
"Hmm?" Charles raised an eyebrow,
but before he could say more, Noelle pushed him away and scooted to a safer distance. Covering her face with both hands, she mumbled, "No, I said I want to watch TV!"
Charles' long, narrow eyes sparkled with amusement and affection. After a while, he shook his head with a smile and handed her the remote.
Noelle curled up, grabbed the remote, and turned her head, avoiding Charles' gaze. She feared that his charm might completely overwhelm her. She had just realized how defenseless she was against him. Charles shook his head and asked, "What would you like to drink?"
Before Noelle could answer, Charles' phone rang. He glanced at her, and Noelle stood up. "I'll make us some tea. We had a lot of rich foods at Grandpa's, so having tea would be just nice. You take the call
Charles nodded, watching as Noelle headed to the kitchen. He narrowed his eyes slightly before answering the phone. "Hello."
"Charlie, where are you?" It was
Charles' older sister, Chloe. Today was the Hoffmans' New Year's celebration and the true family gathering. Everyone was supposed to be there. However, Charles, the pillar of the family, was noticeably absent.
The Hoffmans had already called several times, wondering where he was, but Charles had yet to show up. Chloe had no choice but to call him. "Grandpa and Dad are waiting for you at home!"
Charles hummed, glancing toward the kitchen where Noelle was busy preparing tea. His eyes darkened. "You all go ahead without me. Don't wait for me."
"What? That's not possible!" Chloe was startled by his response. "Charlie, you've never done this before. What's going on? Did something happen on your end?"
"It's nothing," Charles replied casually, his long fingers tapping rhythmically on the edge of the couch. "Tell Grandpa and Dad I won't be coming tonight."
