Chapter 782

Jordy glanced upstairs and asked, "Finished talking with the old man?"

Chloe nodded. "Yeah, let's go. We should head back."

"We're not staying here tonight?" Jordy seemed a bit surprised since they usually spent the night at the Hoffman residence around this time of year. Chloe smirked. "Do you want to stay here?"

Jordy stood up with Anna in his arms. "No, let's go. It's getting late, and Anna should be in bed by now."

In truth, Jordy had little interest in the Hoffmans. If it were not for marrying Chloe, he would not have cared to visit the place.

"By the way, about Charlie today..." Chloe sat in the back seat with Anna while Jordy drove.

Remembering Charles' sudden absence, Jordy, who knew his brother-in-law was not the type to act irresponsibly, asked, "What did you say to the old man?"

"Nothing much," Chloe replied, massaging her temples. "I don't really want to talk about the Hoffmans anymore. How's your project going? Are you heading back after New Year's?"

"Yeah, it's in the final phase now. We should be done in another month or two." Jordy glanced at her, adding, "You've been working hard lately."

Chloe smiled softly. "It's not too bad." Then, she added, "I know you don't care much for the Hoffmans, but I appreciate your patience with them. Oh, by the way, did my mom give you a hard time earlier?" Jordy loosened his grip on the steering wheel slightly, surprised by the question. "This was my first time meeting your mother, and she..."

Chloe shrugged. "Pretty sad, right? We've been married all these years, and this was your first time meeting her. She's... selfish."

Chloe pulled out her phone and dialed Charles' number.

This time, the call went through, but instead of Charles, a clear female voice answered. "Hello?"

Chloe blinked in surprise, checking the number again to see if she had dialed the wrong person. "Hello, who's this?"

Noelle, hearing the voice on the other end, realized she had accidentally answered Charles' phone.

She glanced at the name on the screen, stunned and unable to speak.

Charles had just come out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. Seeing Noelle sitting on the bed in a daze, he asked, "What's wrong? Who's calling?"

"It's... your sister." Noelle quickly

covered the phone's speaker, herz face showing panic. In a hushed voice, she added, "I accidentally answered your phone. It's your sister!"

Charles chuckled, shaking his head as he gently patted Noelle's head. Taking the phone from her hand, he greeted, "Hey, Chlo."

"Charlie, just now..." Chloe's mind

struggled to process what she had just heard, She had clearly heard Charles Speaking in a tone so soft and gentle that it was almost unrecognizable. Was this really the cold and distant brother she knew?

Charles glanced at Noelle, who still looked as if she had done something wrong. He handed her a towel and sat down on the bed, continuing the conversation with Chloe, "Yeah, that was my wife."

"Wife!" Chloe was so shocked she almost shouted, barely managing to avoid waking Anna.

Jordy quickly motioned for her to lower her voice, gesturing to the sleeping child. "Keep it down."

Taking a deep breath, Chloe tried to compose herself. "Charlie, what did you just say? I didn't quite catch that."
