Misunderstanding

As soon as the car pulls into a parking spot and stops, Moon hops out and heads to the clinic. She wants to put space between herself and Colin, but he catches up to her quickly.

“Will you just hang on a moment?” Colin grabs her arm, trying to stop her. Farrell is nearly purring with the small amount of contact. Colin is getting more and more frustrated with his wolf.

Farrell keeps making Colin replace little ways to touch Moon or simply be near her. Colin tries to stop it, but he isn’t used to fighting Farrell for control all the time. They have always worked well together and agreed on everything. Colin has never had to be on the lookout for crazy things his wolf might do before now.

She turns and looks at him, still looking annoyed. Colin is distracted for a moment, thinking how nice it would be just to pull her closer to him. He hasn’t forgotten how nice she felt in his arms when he stopped her from falling yesterday. The times he has managed to have her in his arms, she seemed to fit so nicely. This only adds to Farrell’s wanting more of that contact.

Farrell is howling in Colin’s head for him to act on the impulse. He even tries to take the matter into his own paws. Before Colin is aware of what is happening, he steps closer to Moon. He replaces himself so close that all he would have to do is lean down slightly, and her soft full lips would be pressed to his.

Moon’s eyes go a little wide. Colin realizes he has started to lean in just ever so slightly. He growls in his mind at Farrell, who only sighs and pouts. Colin clears his throat and steps back a bit, letting go of her arm.

“I just want to tell you that I am truly sorry if I hurt your feelings. I tend to be far too blunt and am used to talking to warriors, not worrying if I hurt their feelings. I never meant anything negatively. I don’t see it as a bad quality or something that makes you less. If anything, I replace it remarkable how fearless you are and kind to everyone despite what others might have said. Thinking about it now, I should have realized that it would be hurtful of me to point it out the way I did.” Colin finishes trying to apologize, but he feels foolish. Farrell is back in his head.

Do you think it worked? Is she less mad at you now? You should have kissed her. Farrell is wagging his tail, just thinking of stealing one little kiss or several long ones.

Will you please shut up? If you had made me kiss her, she would really be mad at us, Colin protests.

That wasn’t me that tried to move in for a kiss. That was you, man. Farrell is howling with laughter. Colin is shocked. He couldn’t have been the one trying to kiss her. That had to have been Farrell, but Farrell insists it wasn’t him.

Moon’s face softens. She tilts her head as she looks at him.

“Thank you for apologizing.” She turns and walks away, and Colin is left gawking a moment. That’s all she has to say to him? Colin is sure he will never figure this girl out. While she did seem to appreciate the apology, Colin can’t help but think something else is bothering her. Not that he can entirely blame her. Farrell has Colin distracted and acting out of character altogether. He wanted to kill Zach just for calling Moon cute.

Moon walks into the clinic and straight to the nurse’s station. She is trying to brush off the conversation in the parking lot with Colin. He seems to act stranger and stranger every time he is around her. Moon is starting to wonder what kind of a person he is. She was sure for a moment that he was going to kiss her. He is sorely mistaken if he thinks he can have his way with her. She thought his apology was sweet, though. Some part of her really did appreciate it. She would have been happier about it, though, if she wasn’t so sure Colin was just trying to get in her pants. When she approaches the nurse’s station, the nurse looks up, giving Moon a smile.

“How can I help you, dear?” the nurse asks.

“We are here to see Johnny.” Colin’s voice comes from behind Moon, and the nurse startles a little.

“Yes, Alpha, of course. The doctor is in the room with them now. Johnny just woke up a few moments ago.” The nurse seems to be a little flustered as she blushes, looking at Colin.

Moon just gives her a smile and suppresses an eye roll. It seems all she-wolves can’t help themselves regarding Alphas. Moon also starts wondering if maybe they had a relationship. Moon tries to get the thought out of her head as she starts heading to the room.

She can hear Colin walking right behind her. When they reach the door to Johnny’s room, it’s closed. Moon decides it’s better to wait for the doctor to come out of the room instead of just barging in. She leans against the wall by the door while Colin stands in his typical stoic manner. He starts to look through his phone when Moon starts talking.

“She was cute,” Moon chirps.

She doesn’t know why on earth she can’t let the idea go. She knows it isn’t any of her business who he sees or sleeps with, but the idea of him and the nurse together is making her crazy for some reason. It almost feels like it isn’t even her that’s mad about it, but that is even more of a crazy thought than Colin and the nurse sleeping together.

“I guess,” Colin says, looking up from his phone and giving Moon a confused look.

“I can’t really say I noticed.”

“Oh well, she definitely noticed you,” Moon says, trying to act unbothered.

“I’m not sure I know what you are getting at,” Colin says flatly, looking at his phone again.

“I’m sure you have had your pick of women as Alpha. They do seem to throw themselves at Alphas like you, don’t they? I just mean she was cute and seemed to like you.” Moon is examining her nails, but she regrets saying anything at all now. She wishes she could just shut up. Why is she feeling so upset over nothing?

Before Moon knows what is happening, Colin is standing in front of her with his hands on the wall behind her. He leans in just a little as she looks up at him.

“I didn’t notice her,” he softly growls out so low and quiet it makes her shiver. He looks into her eyes, and she replaces her stomach clenched in knots.

“I think there has been some misunderstanding. I’m not that kind of Alpha or man for that matter.” His voice is still a low rumble, and his eyes shift colors turning black for a brief moment.

Moon swallows hard, trying to calm her racing heart and the heat rising in her body. She is positive her cheeks are bright red, but she can’t seem to move. She is locked in his gaze. Something deep in her mind purrs in pleasure.

The door to the room opens, and when Colin doesn’t move right away, Moon starts to panic. Doctor Lewis clears his throat. Colin suppresses a growl as his eyes turn back to their normal shade. Colin moves away from Moon just to see Doctor Lewis smirking.

“Good morning, Alpha and Moon. Johnny is awake and doing very well if you would like to go in and see him. Or if you need a few more minutes, you are welcome to hang out in the hall.” Doctor Lewis is still smirking as he turns to leave. Moon blushes even harder. This is all so embarrassing, but she liked how Colin stared at her. There is also the soft whispering in her head. From what Moon can make out, the voice is more than pleased about the entire encounter.
