The Delta's Daughter -
The Delta’s Daughter Chapter 67
Mathias
So here I was three weeks later going back to our prison cells, because of another f*****g wolf! This time it was a rogue my men had captured after a small attack rogue wolves had attempted on the outskirts of my territory on a smaller Clan of bears.
The last wolf was still f*****g sitting there. He was so calm and collected and had an eerie confidence about him. I had decided if he didn’t give us answers he would be sentenced to be executed on the next full moon. Next week was the winter solstice and my Kingdom was holding a celebration, so I had opted for the following full moon. Why a full moon, because werewolves worshiped them so much. They pretty much planned their whole lives around full moons and it would be a kick in the teeth to the Delta wolf we were holding for his death to be held that day.
I had been informed that the Delta Wolf had been taking his daily punishment well. I really didn’t like that cocky son of a bitch and, more so, I didn’t like that he refused to answer why he wanted to see Odeia and how he knew her.
With the attacks from the wolves, I was sure it had something to do with him.
**Flashback 3 weeks ago***
I was pissed off and wanted answers, so when I spoke it was full of impatience and agitation.
“Who are you wolf?” I spat.
There was only a small table in between us, so I had hoped he didn’t piss me off even more, especially if he valued his life, because I was not above tearing his limbs off.
“Your highness” he said with his head down. He was dirty from rotting in his cell for a couple of days but I could see the flecks of grey in his dark hair. He hadn’t answered me so I used my aura to push my command on him.
“Tell me who you are!” I demanded.
His head snapped up, his eyes meeting mine and holding them. There was a deathly silence at his disrespect. What caught me off guard was when his wolf pushed forward and his green eyes began to glow. They f*****g glowed. Like a royal, like a royal Lycan, like Odeia.
I growled at his challenge and let my beast come forward, pushing my aura and strength onto his wolf. He kept eye contact longer than most and when the b***d started to trickle from his nose, a sign he was trying to fight my dominance and command. Eventually, after a few moments, the intensity in his eyes died and he cast his head down, drawing deep breaths.
“I will ask you again, wolf, for the last time; who the f**k are you?” My beast let out a roar and my claws began extending from my hands. My bear was itching to tare this f*****g wolf apart.
And then he answered.
“My name is Marcus Langley, Royal Delta to King Alexander the 2nd, of the werewolf kingdom, former Alpha of the Moon pack and I am looking for Odeia” He spoke with clarity and I could detect no malice in his words.
“And what makes you think I know this Odeia or if they are even in my kingdom” I asked, finally getting my beast under control.
I step back and lean against the wall and cross my arms. I glance to the left of me where Xander and Tobias are standing outside the interrogation cell. I knew I was scowling and could see how my aura was affecting my brother and best friend. I was more than livid at the wolf sitting across the room and I didn’t believe for a second he was here to replace Odeia. I was convinced the wolves had been behind the attacks that were happening around the borders of territories, and I was more than sure this Delta had something to do with it. He was a spy and he was after Odeia because of what she is and they had sent the rogues.
My only question was, how did he come to hear of her? but I would not ask. I would not admit that I knew who she was or where she could be found. I would deny it until my last dying breath. That was the b***d pact made hundreds of years ago between us and the Lycans that lived in our territory under our protection.
“I believe she is in this territory and I believe you know where she is, your highness.” The Delta gained my attention. I glared in his direction with nostrils flaring and clenching my fists. What the f**k, he literally just voiced what I was thinking.
“Give him a good dose of wolfsbane and chain him with the cuffs. If he doesn’t answer our questions by the morning, then show him the whip.” I seethed, storming out the cell and kept a hurried pace until I was outside the dungeons and gulping in the fresh air.
**End flash back**
I f*****g hated going to the dungeons. It was the last place I saw my mate, the last place I spoke with her. Right before I ripped her heart out. I felt a tug in my chest at the memory but quickly brushed it aside. She had deserved to die and I would not allow my beast or myself to feel any remorse over her death.
And now these idiots had another wolf in captivity I had to deal with.
The smell of b***d hit my senses before I had even opened the door to the dungeons. A putrid smelling mixture of wolf and rogue, blended with the acidic scent of wolfsbane that we had dosed the wolf shifters with. See, wolfsbane didn’t work so well on were-bears, whereas it was a weakness for them, Nightshade was our biggest weakness when it came to poisons.

So here I was three weeks later going back to our prison cells, because of another f*****g wolf! This time it was a rogue my men had captured after a small attack rogue wolves had attempted on the outskirts of my territory on a smaller Clan of bears.
I walked down into the damp and depressing area heading straight for the rogue wolf’s cell. I took a quick glance at the Delta as I passed by. He was sitting up straight on his cot staring at the wall and didn’t move at all when I paused outside his door.
“How long has he been like this?” I asked the guard.
“The whole time, King, even through his punishment, he says nothing and then just sits there like he is patiently waiting for something or someone.” He replied.
“hmmm” I grumbled and moved down to the last holding cell where the other captured wolf was.
He was a disgusting creature, rabid looking and you could tell he was a little on the feral side. Nothing like the Delta Wolf only a few cells down. The guard opened his cell and I entered, immediately pushing my aura on him,
“Who sent you?” I commanded the question. I was met with a manic laugh, his eyes swirling dark. “Who do you work for?” I tried asking a different question.
“Ha! I will never tell you” Again the rogue began to manically laugh. He was starting to piss me off. Then in a sing-song voice he said “The false king wants to know things but I will never tell.” A sickly grin fell across his face and in an instant I had him pinned against the wall and my hand squeezing his neck.
“I asked you rogue, who the f**k sent you?” I spat between clenched teeth.
“Tsk, tsk false King, you will see soon enough” His slimy voice grated my ears.
“Then I have no use for you if you will not answer my questions.” I waited a breath to see if he would beg for his life and when he didn’t, I brought my other hand up, punching a hole right through his chest, grasping his heart and ripping it from the cavity I created. A short gasp left his mouth and I watched the life drain from his eyes before letting go and his body slumped to the floor.
I left the cell, still holding his bloody heart in my hand, and walked to the Deltas cell. I threw the heart to his feet; it landed with a dull thud. He didn’t even look down. “If you do not tell me the real reason why you trespassed on my territory then you will be executed on the 2nd full moon”, I calmly stated.
Finally, his head lifted and he met my gaze. “I told you the truth, I am seeking Odeia.”
“I don’t believe you! Did these rogues attack under your king’s command?”
“No.” He stated calmly, too calmly. But I didn’t miss the curl of his l*p in distaste for even suggesting such a thing.
“You see what happens when my questions are un-answered. You are lying to me, Wolf, and you will be sentenced to death. Until then, enjoy your stay.” I gave no emotion, turned on my heels and left the dungeons to head back to the Clan’s mansion.
When I walk into my office, I replace Tobias sitting in my chair with his feet propped up on my desk. A low growl leaves my throat at his boldness.
“Shit” he said, jumping to his feet “I thought you had forgotten where your office was.” He smirked, running a hand through his already messy brown curls.
“Get the f**k out of my seat” I say, stalking towards the other side of the desk while he rounds it the opposite way. He wasn’t wrong, though it had been a hot minute since I had stepped foot in this office, preferring to conduct most of my business from my penthouse in Lonely City.
I sat down looking at the few files scattered on the desk, one in particular catching my eye. “What the f**k is this?” I asked him.
“That, my dear King, this is the file I emailed you a few weeks ago, I have been waiting for your reply since.” He stretched his arms out wide and sat on one of the couches, linking his hands behind his head and stretching his legs in a casual way.
I opened the file and began reading the contents, a storm brewing with each photo I flipped through, my b***d boiling in anger with each paragraph I scanned. I lent my chin in my hand. What the hell was I reading? Image after image showed mutilated bodies and their wounds. I recognized one of the bodies, but it wasn’t until one of the last photos in the file that I could no longer hold my anger back. Children, cubs strung up and maimed corpses. There was no containing my beast as he let rip a ferocious and maddening roar, flinging the file at Tobias and picking up my chair ready to hurl it across the room.
“Why the f**k didn’t you come to me about this before?” I yelled, pointing at the file which depicted one of our Clans on the outskirts massacred. The report telling me there was only one survivor and she had been taken in by an Alpha wolf.
“Hey, don’t get angry at me! I emailed that to you weeks ago and followed up asking how you wanted to proceed”. Tobias defended himself, his eyes wide with fear. He knew how my beast was and there was no containing him when he got to a certain point. “I had no idea you hadn’t seen it and even sent you follow-up emails.” He stood now glaring at me and pointing at me, his voice raising a few octaves “Maybe if you spent less time in that whore house you call a penthouse and more time here, you would have known about it!” He was pushing my buttons and his accusation wasn’t wrong. Not in the slightest.
The past few years I had been slowly losing myself and I knew a lot of my problems were to do with Annalise, my dead mate. The women, the alcohol and, at times, the drugs, they were all just an aid in a bid to help me forget, a vice I had begun to lose myself in and preferred the company over the whores to my own Clan. I had been pushing more and more onto Tobias and Xander, almost deliberately disregarding my duties as a King, brother and leader. Basically, I had had my head up my a*s and Tobias was all but saying those exact words.
I placed my chair back on the ground, my beast simmering down and took a seat rubbing my eyes and then massaging my temples as a headache began to form. He knew this was as much his fault as mine. The least we should have done was acknowledge the report sent to us and we should have taken the lone survivor in, a small female cub.
“Has anyone been out there to see for themselves?” I peeked at Tobias and had a calmer tone when I spoke.
“No King, should I send a few men out there to investigate?”
“Yes, send six of our warriors out there, make sure two of them are trackers.” I replied tiredly.
“What should we do about the little girl?” he asked cautiously, his green eyes showing tenderness and sympathy.
I scrubbed my face in thought and gave a deep sigh “I don’t know man, have the men we send out make contact with the pack to see what the girls’ situation is. I’m sure she is unwelcome in a wolf pack and they would be ready to get rid of her if they haven’t already.” From what I read in the report, the girl had stumbled into their pack and she had been taken in, but how long would they accept the presence of a bear shifter, child or not?
*****
That night I found myself sleeping in my own room, for the first time in God knows how long. I had managed to replace a bottle of rum I took to bed with me, but the Clan mansion was seriously lacking in females and I desperately needed a release, to vent out my pent up energy and anger.
On the outside, I showed no emotion. Indifference and cruelty are the only things apparent when you look at me, that I allow people to see, but on the inside, the anger always simmered just below the surface. Slithering under my skin like a heated parasite, waiting for its prey. It didn’t take much to set my beast off and I wasn’t much better at containing my anger either. I very rarely shifted these days, fearing just how far his thirst for destruction would go.
My anger I can understand, it’s fueled by hate and betrayal, but my beast, his anger is more deep-rooted, fueled by longing and a broken heart. Having to kill our mate broke something inside both of us.
Leaving us with little faith in fate and feeling as if the Moon Goddess had cheated us out of our happiness.
‘Arcas’ I called to my beast. I hadn’t spoken his name in many moons. I was met with silence as usual. I reached over to the bedside table, opened the drawer and pulled out a bottle of belladonna. It took a lot for me to feel the effects of alcohol, but I liked the taste of it, and belladonna is a sedative herb to us. A drug, so, mixing it in with the bottle, I then proceeded to tip the bottle back and took three big gulps of the heavy, dark rum.
“I’m sorry, Arcas” I whispered out loud to my beast.
At some point, I passed out. I have no idea how long I slept for, but I woke up with the memory of eyes so green they looked like jewels. Like emeralds, they were bewitching and sensual, and sexy as f**k! Those eyes are the only thing I remember in my comatose state, but it must have been one hell of a dream because I also woke up with a smile and my c**k like concrete, I had to take a cold shower and even that didn’t fully help.
Shit, I really need to lay off the belladonna, but it was the only peace my mind got.
I would return to Lonely City today and begin making some preparations. It was time I became a King again and lived up to that title. The file I looked at last night was proof that I hadn’t been. I had neglected my subjects, my people!
And for what, a f*****g City that is a cesspool for crime and unforgiving souls? I would give myself until the second full moon to tie things up here, then, I would move back to the Kodiak Clan, my Kingdom. I will prove why I am the King of Alphas. I promise myself now, that no clan or tribe under my rule would ever be wiped out again.
