The Ex and Her Riches -
Chapter 455
Chapter 455
When confronted with her question, Kieran didn’t flinch. “I only know I must obey my superior, so I’ll dowhat you say, Ms. Mossey.”
Inez was at a loss for words.
His words sounded extremely pleasing to the ears. The main role of a secretary was to assist his or herleader. With Kieran’s high education and good looks, he was more than qualified for the position.
Inez simply stated in response, “Being my secretary requires a high level of competence. I expecteverything to be understood in the first instance. I’ll give you a seven-day trial period. If you fail tohandle all tasks flawlessly, you’ll have to leave Mossey Corporation. Do you have any objections?”
“I have no objections to that.”
“Great. This is a collaboration proposal sent from overseas. I want you to translate the entire documentinto Chanaean and submit it to me before noon.” Inez intended to make things difficult for him. Shesorted several Greganese business plans and passed them to him.
Kieran calmly took the documents and briefly skimmed through the words. His cool and composeddemeanor remained unchanged. “Sure.”
Inez knocked on the desk and emphasized, “You’re known for being a man of few words, but that won’twork here at Mossey Corporation. You should reply, ‘Yes, Ms. Mossey.”‘
Kieran let out a rare chuckle. “Yes, Ms. Mossey.”
He took the documents and turned around, preparing to leave.
“Wait,” Inez stopped him again.
“What’s wrong?”
Inez stared at him solemnly. She first corrected his words, “You should ask, ‘Do you have any furtherinstructions, Ms. Mossey?”‘
Kieran managed to withhold his laughter. He asked in a proper manner, “Do you have any furtherinstructions, Ms. Mossey?”
Inez was somewhat satisfied. “Go and get your office desk moved in, and place it in…” She scannedthe surroundings. Finally, she pointed to an empty space behind the visitor’s couch. “Move it over there. It’s closer to me. I can oversee your work and assess your performance at any time.”
Kieran couldn’t ask for anything more than working in the same office as her.
“Okay.” The moment he finished speaking, he immediately sensed Inez’s intense stare. He hurriedlycorrected himself, “Yes, Ms. Mossey.”
Without wasting any time, he turned around and walked out. As he was reluctant to bother others, hepersonally carried the chairs and move the desk.
Another female assistant, Yvonne Coleman, who was outside the CEO’s office, immediately steppedforward to offer help. “Mr. Harris, how about I give you a hand?”
Without lifting his gaze, Kieran responded with a cold tone, “No thanks.”
Since he had to come in and out several times, the door to the CEO’s office was left open.
Inez heard everything distinctly, and her expression soon turned grim.
However, Yvonne, who stood outside the door, did not perceive any unusual aura emanating from herCEO. Her attention was wholly focused on Kieran.
Given his striking looks and the mention of his single status on his resume, anyone would feel drawn tohim.
She enthusiastically approached him as she took a tissue and asked in concern, “Mr. Harris, you’resweating a lot. Shall I help you wipe it off?”
Before Kieran could refuse, Inez impatiently exclaimed from the office, “What’s taking you so long tomove a workstation? If you keep messing around and causing delays in my work, both of you can leavetomorrow!”
Yvonne was startled and immediately apologized, “I’m sorry, Ms. Mossey. I’ll get back to my place andfocus on my work right away.”
Without the annoying chatterbox next to him, Kieran quickly moved his belongings. Ten minutes later,he closed the office door.
Inez’s desk was positioned horizontally, but Kieran’s workstation was arranged vertically. If he wishedto look in Inez’s direction while sitting on the chair, he had to turn his head.
However, Inez didn’t even need to raise her gaze. With a quick sidelong glance, she could observe allof his movements.
Although they had known each other for quite some time, this was the first time they had been alonetogether in the same environment for such a long time.
Inez felt a subtle surge of emotions in her heart.
Over the past few days, it would be a lie for Inez to say that she did not feel Kieran’s sincerity.
However, she would never give in easily. She was determined to show Kieran that she was not awoman to be taken lightly. She would go above and beyond to prove herself and hoped that he would
come to treasure her efforts in the future.
If Kieran could not handle it during this period of time, then he was definitely not the right person. Itwould be best for her to cut all ties and move on then.
Her thoughts were clear and unwavering. As she pondered, her fingers continued to tap on thekeyboard without pause.
After an hour and a half, the office remained filled with nothing but the mechanical rhythm of theirkeyboards.
Occasionally, Inez would secretly raise her gaze and cast a distant glance at Kieran who sat oppositeher.
His features were remarkably attractive from the side. As he immersed himself in his work, hisexpression remained serious, but there was a subtle aloofness that emanated from within him.
The sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating his side profile and casting aradiant glow upon his face. It was a presence that couldn’t be ignored with a mere glance.
Kieran, a prominent figure in the entire Chanaea medical community, had unexpectedly joined thesmall-scale Mossey Corporation in Fairlake and taken up the role of a mere personal secretary for her.
This feeling was quite peculiar. However, it was not unpleasant, but rather delightful.
She stared at Kieran’s face in a trance. She did not notice at all when he had turned his face and madeeye contact with her. “Ms. Mossey?”
Inez felt slightly embarrassed as she suddenly came back to her senses. She put on a strong front andsaid, “What are you looking at? Those Greganese proposal documents are not easy to translate. If youdon’t finish them before noon, I won’t spare you!”
Kieran was slightly taken aback.
Wasn’t she the one who looked at me first?
He did not want to humiliate her. Instead, he said, “I’ve already translated everything. Would you like tohave a look, Ms. Mossey?”
“You’ve finished translating them all?” she asked in disbelief.
Translating those five Greganese project proposals would take a long time as it involved researchingand inputting each word and sentence online for translation, followed by verifying the accuracy andmanually inputting one copy.
However, Kieran was able to finish it in just an hour and a half.
It was truly astonishing.
“All right. Send it to me. I’ll take a look.”
Kieran immediately did as told.
Inez opened the file and quickly skimmed through it. She didn’t notice any glaring mistakes and foundthe input to be organized and clear.
He had even translated some originally complex Greganese sentences into clear and understandablephrases.
She looked at him in astonishment and exclaimed, “Didn’t you major in medicine? I didn’t expect you toknow Greganese.”
Kieran pursed his lips slightly and replied, “It’s a standard requirement for all children in the Harrisfamily. When we were young, we had private tutors who taught us eight different languages at home. It’s mandatory.”
Inez blinked as her gaze remained fixed on him.
However, in her heart, she couldn’t help but be amazed by the distinct manners and rules of aprestigious family.
She asked curiously, “Are your private tutors strict? Do they resort to physical punishment for makingmistakes?”
Kieran replied, “The private tutors wouldn’t physically punish us. However, after finishing our homeeconomics class every day, my elder brother would take a ruler and meticulously inspect our academicprogress by going through every word and sentence.”
“So your family also resorts to using a ruler like that. Have you ever been punished by your olderbrother?”
Kieran shook his head in response.
Inez was surprised. “Not even once?”
“No. I have a reserved nature and rarely make mistakes. Treyton and Kiddo get punished morefrequently.”
Somehow, Inez began to have the idea of messing with him.
She picked up a whole stack of files consisting of over forty foreign documents and said in a teasingtone, “Before the end of the workday, I need you to translate all of these. If you can’t do it, I don’t mindusing a ruler to help you complete your childhood memories.”
Kieran fixed his gaze on the towering stack of documents and subconsciously checked his watch. Herealized that there were still two and a half hours until lunchtime.
It took him an hour and a half to translate the five documents. Translating these over forty documentsbefore the end of the workday was not a simple task.
