In the ancestral hall. Craig put the cane back into the box. A menacing glint flashed past his eyes as herecalled Gwendolyn making use of his sister and taking Jennifer away.

Treyton stayed awake the whole night, sitting by Jennifer’s bed all the way until the next morning.

After examining Jennifer, the doctor concluded that her body was still very weak and gave her twoshots of sedatives to curb her hysteric behavior. However, the strength of the tranquilizers was alsoenough to knock her out for the entire night.

Treyton had bandaged Jennifer’s wrist after applying medicine to her wound.

With his gaze fixed on the woman’s haggard and pale face, he held her hand tightly, interlocking hisfingers with hers.

Persuading her to return to the Newton family was the worst mistake he had made in his entire life.Treyton knew that, no matter what he did, he would never be able to make up for the hurt they hadcaused her.

He would be willing to accept any punishment from her after she woke up.

His eyes were bloodshot, his heart aching so badly that it felt as if he was going to suffocate.

A heavy atmosphere of despair enveloped the room, and the air seemed to grow denser, as ifsaturated with sorrow and helplessness.

Just then, Treyton’s phone rang, jolting him out of his sorrowful state.

It was Remus.

The moment the call was connected, Remus said in an ingratiating tone, “Mr. Treyton, I’ve given itsome thought and decided to break off my engagement with Jennifer. However, please give me twodays to think of a suitable excuse to tell Mr. Craig. Can you settle the online scandal for me first?”

Treyton’s expression darkened as he replied, “How dare you ask me to fix the mess on the Abbotfamily’s behalf when you haven’t even done what you’re supposed to do yet? Remus, are you takingme for a fool?”

“No! Mr. Treyton, you’ve misunderstood. I’m just—”

Not wanting to hear his explanation. Treyton cut the man off before issuing him an ultimatum. “I’ll giveyou till noon to break off the engagement with the Newton family. If you fail to do so, I will ask Kiddo toterminate all collaborations with Abbot Group. Do you want to see Abbot Group declaring bankrupt injust a few days’ time?”

If Harris Group decided to ostracize Abbot Group, the other major corporations would surely follow suitand boycott the latter company. Without the support of their partners, it would not take more than acouple of days for Abbot Group’s hotel and restaurant businesses to plummet to rock bottom.

Treyton did not feel bad at all threatening Remus, for the latter was known to be a womanizer and apervert.

At forty years old, he had already been widowed several times. Everyone was told that his wives haddied. of illnesses, but the real reason had remained a well-kept secret.

Clearly, the man had a fetish that no one knew about.

How dare this scumbag lust after Jennifer? I’m going too easy on Abbot Group by making you losemerely a few billion!

“Mr. Treyton, Mr. Treyton, you—”

Before Remus could complete his sentence, Treyton ended the call and proceeded to block thenumber as he did not want to hear another word from the man.

Treyton’s threat turned out to be very useful.

Remus realized that he had been blocked by Treyton after multiple failed attempts of calling the latter. Itwas clear to him how angry the man was.

With that knowledge in mind, he called Craig at once, and half an hour later, he was on his way to theNewton residence.

Remus did not mind remaining a bachelor for the rest of his life. After all, he could have his pick ofwomen at clubs.

However, he could not allow Abbot Group to collapse.

It was as important as his life, and he would do anything to save the company.

A short while later, Remus arrived at the Newton residence in a hurry. As Craig was still busy workingin his study, the butler led Remus to the reception room to wait.

One hour later, there was still no sign of Craig

Remus was starting to get restless and broke into a cold sweat due to his anxiety.

He continually glanced at his watch, noticing that it was almost eleven o’clock at that point. But still,Craig was nowhere to be seen. He could not continue waiting endlessly as he would be doomed ifHarris Group really decided to take action.

“Karl, could you please tell Mr. Craig to hurry? I have something very urgent to discuss with him!”

In fact, the butler had already gone into the study a few times. However, he was worried that he mightget into trouble if he kept doing it as Craig had been in a bad mood ever since he returned home thenight before.

As such, the butler bowed apologetically and replied, “Please just wait for a while more. Mr. Craig willbe here once he finishes his work.

Remus had no other choice but to continue to wait.

Thirty minutes later, at half past eleven. Craig finally strode down the stairs leisurely.

As Cedrick had stopped his duties at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, instead of being in his usualmilitary uniform, Craig was dressed casually in a tailored shirt and trousers, looking much moreapproachable than before.

“Mr. Abbot, what brings you here? Are you here to see Jennifer?”

Remus glanced at his watch again.

As it was already nearing noon, he had no time to make small talk with Craig. Going straight to thepoint, he said, “Mr. Craig, I’m here to break off the engagement with Jennifer.”

Craig’s expression darkened immediately as a dangerous glint flashed past his eyes. “Break off theengagement?”

“That’s right.” Remus nodded cautiously as he wiped off the sweat from his forehead. “The problemlies. with me. I will make a public announcement to let everyone know that it’s my fault. You can keepthe engagement gifts. Treat it as compensation for the potential losses Newton Group might suffer dueto the annulment of the engagement,”

Checking his watch every few seconds, Remus stood up right after he finished speaking and added,“Mr. Craig, my decision has been made. I came here to inform you about it. I have some matters toattend to, so I shall take my leave now.”

With an apologetic look in his eyes, the man bowed to Craig before striding out of the reception room.

A loud crash rang out the moment Remus stepped out of the room. It was the sound of somethingshattering on the ground.

A shiver ran down Remus spine, the commotion causing him to sweat profusely.

Nevertheless, he had no time waste, having no choice but to do whatever he could to appease theHarris family.

At that thought, he hastened his steps. As it was almost noon, on his way back to the office, Remuscalled the PR department and instructed them to issue a public release to inform everyone that theCEO of Abbot Group had broken off his engagement with the daughter of Newton Group.

Meanwhile, Craig threw a fit in the reception room after Remus left, smashing an expensive tea set inthe process.

“Gwendolyn! Treyton! Cedrick!” They are always ruining things for me!

Craig gritted his teeth and looked like he wanted to kill someone right then.

The butler did not dare to go near him and said softly at a distance, “Mr. Craig, the engagement giftsfrom. the Abbot family were quite substantial. Besides, they have offered to shoulder responsibility forbreaking off the engagement. Come to think of it, not only did Newton Group not lose much, but wehave also earned a profit from the engagement gifts.”

That was indeed the case from a profitability point of view.

Even though the woman was not fully conscious at the moment and would not be able to divulge theNewton family’s secret, Craig knew that Cedrick and Gwendolyn would do anything they could to cureJennifer of her condition.

As long as the two of them were around her, Jennifer was like a ticking time bomb that could destroythe Newton family at any time.

After a moment of contemplation, Craig instructed the butler. “Get some men to stand guard outside theJenson residence and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I want to know Jennifer’s whereabouts at alltimes, and get me timely updates on her situation.”

At that, Craig narrowed his eyes and said sinisterly, “Ask them to kill her once she shows signs ofwaking up. They can act without informing me and report to me later. I want her dead no matter what.”

The butler was stunned to hear that. “But Mr. Craig, she… she’s a daughter of the Newton family andyour biological sister.”

“Anything that comes in the way of the Newton family’s success has to be gotten rid of. Even bloodrelatives are no exception,” Craig replied, his eyes devoid of light and emotions.
