The Ex and Her Riches
Chapter 743

Chapter 743

Charles didn’t even spare her a glance. After placing the milk down, he headed towards the couch inthe study. Crossing his legs, he took out his laptop and began delving into his work.

After a few minutes, Whitney noticed that there was someone in the study.

Charles hadn’t left.

She tilted her head and cast a gaze toward the couch. “Mr. Newton, are you busy with work?”

Charles was tapping on the keyboard attentively, seemingly oblivious to her.

If he was genuinely busy with work, she would feel a tinge of guilt.

After all, she had taken over Charles’ desk. Despite being the rightful owner, he had to bend over andwork on the couch.

“Why don’t we switch positions, Mr. Newton?”

Charles’ hands froze as he stared at her as if she was a fool.

She’s using a desktop computer. How can we switch positions? Doesn’t she think before she speaks?

Despite complaining in his mind, Charles betrayed no emotions outwardly. “It’s fine. Shut up and dealwith your matters. Stop disturbing me.”

Whitney tactfully fell silent and continued to enter the data.

The study was filled with the rhythmic sound of typing.

Both of them worked side by side harmoniously like a couple who had been married for many years.

As someone relatively new to typing on the keyboard, Whitney was quite slow in typing.

After two hours, Charles was done with his work. However, Whitney still had some work left tocomplete.

Furrowing his brows, he observed her side profile attentively.

He couldn’t tell if the workload was too overwhelming or if she was just dumb.

While Whitney’s eyes were glued to the computer’s screen, he walked behind her softly and checkedhow she was doing.

When he saw that, he was shocked.

“Ah, the legendary two-finger typing technique makes its appearance.”

He did not hold back with his criticism.

“Are the rest of your fingers, except for those two, immobile? Are they only there for show? You don’tknow how to press the spacebar with your thumb? Did it get chopped off by the keyboard? If youcontinue typing at this speed, when will you ever finish entering the data?”

Furious, Whitney turned her head around and glared at him. “Mr. Newton, return to your room if you’redone with work. Although I type really slowly, I don’t intend to sleep tonight. I’ll train my typing speed, okay?”

“You want to do that alone?” Charles glanced upward, almost bursting into laughter. “Your basic skillsare so horrible! How can you even improve your typing speed? You’re dreaming with your eyes open.”

Whitney was unwilling to admit defeat. “Well, I can just put in more time and effort. If I practice more, Ican definitely see the effects.”

“Your methods are wrong. Even if you train your typing for a year, you still can’t catch up to my speed.”

Whitney nodded in agreement. “Yeah, yeah. You’re the fastest, Mr. Newton.”

A tinge of displeasure surfaced within Charles when he heard that. Clenching his jaw grimly, he flickedher head lightly. “You shouldn’t say that a man is too quick.”

“What?”

Whitney was so engrossed in her work that she had no idea what he was talking about.

Charles couldn’t be bothered to explain. Bending down toward her, he grabbed her hands which wereon the keyboard, and corrected her finger placement.

“Your left hand should handle this half of the keyboard, and your right hand handles the other half. Aftertyping, press the spacebar with your thumb. Use the Enter key to go to the next line. Make sure tomemorize the order of these letters…”

Though his tone was a bit gruff and impatient, he provided detailed instructions and explanations.

“Try it out. Use the method I just taught you and type out a line.”

As Whitney was still a beginner, she had to stare at the keyboard. However, she was very serious.Suppressing her urge to revert back to typing with two fingers, she followed Charles’ guidance andtyped out a line of words.

As she was not used to it, she kept making typos. Regardless, her finger placement was correct.

Charles observed her hands quietly. Considering how quickly she managed to improve, she was quitetalented. He felt quite pleased.

Still, he said, “You’re so dumb. I’ll give you an additional task tonight. After entering all the data, recordthis contract too. Keep recalling the finger placement I just taught you. If you don’t finish tonight, you

aren’t allowed to sleep. I’ll also deduct your internship allowance for the first month.”

He spoke nonchalantly as he casually picked out a relatively short contract from the stack ofdocuments on the desk.

Whitney looked back at him in despair. “Didn’t you say that I’m no longer your employee once I leavethe company? How can you just exploit my labor and cut my pay?”

He showed no signs of remorse. “You lack practice. If you want to navigate the workplace with ease inthe future, you need to step up your game and quickly master all the necessary skills. Let me make thisclear—you won’t become a full-time worker just because of our personal relationship. If you aren’tcapable enough to handle the intensity of the work after the three-month internship, be prepared to bekicked out of Newton Group.”

Although his words did not sound pleasant, they made perfect sense.

Determined not to let her first month’s salary go to waste, Whitney pushed herself to increase hertyping speed. Ignoring his presence completely, she threw herself wholeheartedly into her work.

Her speed did indeed improve considerably after practicing for some time.

Charles observed her for a while. For some reason, his gaze was drawn to her earlobes.

When he held her hand earlier and corrected her finger placement, his face accidentally brushedagainst her ears.

A strange tingling sensation crept up on him.

A strange tingling sensation crept up on him.

When Charles realized that his thoughts were drifting again, a cold expression crossed his face.

“Finish your work quickly and get some sleep. You’re so dumb that even pigs are smarter than you. Ican’t help but wonder what your life was like in Tayhaven. You don’t even have basic computer skills,”he grumbled.

Then, he turned around impatiently and went to the window to smoke.

Unperturbed, Whitney diligently typed away on the keyboard, determined not to give him any reason tonitpick or deduct her salary.

Time always passed swiftly at night.

After Charles smoked two cigarettes and played with his phone idly on the couch for a while, anothertwo hours passed.

On the live streaming platform, the team that Jennifer was managing was currently taking part in acompetition.

Charles watched the live stream for a moment. After Jennifer’s team won, his interest in the game waspiqued.

He glanced at Whitney, who was still typing away on her computer. Estimated that the contract wouldkeep her busy for a while, he decided to download that game and try it out.

Unknowingly, he found himself staying in the study, keeping Whitney company instead of returning tohis room.

At one in the morning, Whitney had finally entered the last sentence into the file. She tapped the enterkey triumphantly, finally completing the ‘special task’ that Charles had assigned her.

Sitting for a prolonged period while typing left her body feeling exhausted.

While Whitney massaged her aching neck, she casually glanced at Charles, who was sitting on thecouch and playing with his phone.

She was stunned.

Didn’t Mr. Newton leave the study? Has he been keeping me company over the past few hours when Iwas working overtime?

Whitney felt quite touched.

It was late at night. The entire Newton residence was enveloped in silence. Yet, he had chosen to stayup with her instead of resting.

If he’s doing this, he probably has some feelings for me, right?

Feeling moved, Whitney pondered about it. However, Charles did not even spare a single glance at heras he leaned against the couch lazily. With a glum look on his face, he tossed his phone asideunhappily.

“A cr*ppy game. What a waste of my time! It’s so boring.”

With that, he got up and left the study, his silhouette exuding an arrogant aura.

It was as if he had forgotten that Whitney was still in the study. He did not even cast a glance in herdirection.

The emotions that swirled up within Whitney immediately disappeared. Instead, she felt like she hadjust been doused in cold water.

So, he wasn’t waiting for me. He stayed in the study because he was so engrossed in the game that helost track of time…
