Penelope pov

The next morning she was woke up to a mind link from her sister to bring her new mate to breakfast. Penelope woke up Braxton and they quickly got dressed.

The newly mated and marked couple came to the table only to be brought up short to replace the youngest of Braxton’s brothers already sitting at the table with Callum on his lap. Penelope looked to see who was included in the breakfast was; Callum, Liliana, Killian, Jackson, Liam, Brad, Braxton, Dash, and herself. The breakfast was served buffet style and everyone sat down to eat.

“Well first off I wanted to say congratulations!” Liliana told her and Braxton.

“Thank you Luna,” Braxton smiled and Lili waved him off.

“Well we called you hear to welcome you to the family, and well it’s time to reveal a couple of things, not just to you.” Penelope looked back and forth between her mate and Dash.

“Well what about?” Penelope looked at Dash.

“Oh I already know!” Dash piped up shocking her. “I was told last night while you two were busy.”

“Busy doing what?” Jocelyn asked adorably coming into the room with Helen. Penelope blushed while Braxton looked around the room confused.

“What do you know?” He asked his brother.

“Well that’s the second part of the reveal,”Nathan commented. Penelope looked around the room and waited, but no one started to speak.

“You want me to tell him?” She asked surprised and Lili nodded.

“He’s your mate.” Lili said and Penelope turned to Braxton.

“Okay, well there isn’t many people who know this outside of this room. Alpha Axel knows, but that is because he saved my sister from the rogue king.” Braxton looked around the room as Penelope took a breath and then looked back to her. “My nephew Callum is very special. When he grows up he will be the next werewolf king, though I’m not sure why your brother is here.” Braxton seemed to look intently at everyone at the table. Penelope was surprised to see him taking this so well, however he was a white bear. He could have already known that Callum was special.

“Okay, how is my brother involved in all of this?” Braxton asked the room.

“He’s my protector… so is uncle Brad,” Callum said as an afterthought.

“What?” Brad asked dropping his fork in shock.

“Ya that was a shock to me too Brad…when I asked Callum why he couldn’t tell before he said something about your wolf being gone?” Lili asked Brad. Brad looked away from the table,

“Can we talk about that later,” Brad asked sheepishly.

“Okay, back to topic,” Nathan said.

“Now Brad I know this is something you’d normally share with your mate, but-“ Killian started.

“But a rogue can’t be trusted,” Brad cut of bitterly.

“No!” Lili interfered sharply. “We don’t know your mate. There is a reason this isn’t common knowledge,” Liliana stated firmly.

“We already almost lost Lili and the kids in a rogue attack a year ago, that’s why we play it so close to the chest,” Nathan stated.

“We were betrayed by people of our own pack,” Killian reminded Brad. Brad nodded,

“Your right, Lili I’m sorry.” Penelope wasn’t there for the attack, she had only heard about from her sister. Brax could obviously feel her emotions and grabbed her hand. She smiled a weak smile and he returned one of his own.

“Don’t worry Brad, we will tell her in time. But you have things to take care of first,” Penelope pointed out.

“Like what?” He asked dumbly.

“Like the council for one,” Nathan said and all the males in the room growled.

“Yeah, what are we going to do about the council?” Braxton asked.

“They have to be stopped,” Callum said in his wolf’s voice.

“What do you mean Kota?” Lili asked.

“They are corrupt from the inside out and only one is loyal to the people, my people,” Kota was still talking through him.

“Who?” Penelope asked.

“Alpha Brooks,” both Brad and Killian stated.

“Yes, anyone she deems worthy can live, everyone else is an enemy,” the werewolf king decreed and retreated back into Callum.

“Well, that settled that,” Dash stated. Then they continued to eat breakfast as if nothing had happened.

Violet pov

Violet reflected on her life after Brad had left to go have a meeting this morning. How much her life had changed in such a short amount of time.

Violet honestly could barely remember life before the rogue attack that had stolen her voice. She had been playing with several of the pack children on the outskirts of the territory when two rogues attacked. They managed to kill three pups and one rogue locked onto her throat when our pack warriors finally showed up. Violet was rushed to the hospital, but the damage was already done. Despite surgery Violet would never be able to speak again. She had been considered the pack outcast ever since.

Then on her eighteenth birthday a year ago that’s when things truly changed for the worse. Violet found out that her mate was the next Alpha, and he promptly rejected her as well as banishing her from the pack. Violet packed a bookbag of her things. Her parents came in and told her ‘what did you expect to happen?’ Then left. Becca though, she packed all of her bags alongside her, took their parents car, and the two of them left and never looked back. Becca was like her, Becca had been mated to the Beta of the pack. Only he slept with her, strung her along for several months until the bastard found someone else and then rejected her.

That’s what got them into that damn auction at the first place. Becca’s bad taste in men. Violet didn’t blame her sister, she was just a bad judge of character. The two sisters managed to replace work at a ‘gentlemens club’ in Boston. Becca would wait tables and take care of the men while Violet would bus the tables and wash dishes. Becca didn’t sleep with the men or anything, she just let them look.

It was a hard life, the two of them had to live in their parents cars they parked in the city park. Becca thought it was all going to change when she met some mysterious rich man several months ago. Violet knew he was a bad guy and tried to tell Becca, but she didn’t want to listen. Becca wanted out of this shitty life so bad. Violet didn’t blame her sister in the slightest. The man invited the two of them to a ‘dinner party.’ Violet didn’t want to go, but the man was adamant she attend. When the two of them go to the location they were injected with silver and thrown in a cage.

Violet didn’t know how long they were in those cages with more shifters showing up occasionally. It was a nightmare she tried to escape from everyday. Becca tried to apologize, but Violet wasn’t sure she was ready to forgive her sister. She just wanted to stay mad at Becca a little while longer.

The two sisters were currently sitting down on a couch arguing in sign language waiting for the Luna to show up.

‘You apologize Luna. You owe me.’ Violet was furious at her sister who still didn’t want to apologize.

‘I just asked question,’ Becca responded.

‘You offended Luna. Fix,’ Violet demanded and just then Lili was brought in by one of the alphas.

“Oh neat! What’s the sign for Luna! I don’t know that one?” Luna Lili asked while she signed some of the words.

“You know sign?” Becca asked while signing for Violet’s benefit. Luna Lili smiled and nodded.

“Yes, but it was a long time ago back in high school.” Luna Lili stated and signed. Violet felt warm on the inside, no one in her pack other than Becca had learned to sign. Her doctor told her parents it would be a good way for her to communicate since she couldn’t speak. Her parents told the doctors they didn’t have time for that. Violet understood as they were omegas and literally worked before the sun rose in the morning until after it set in the evenings.

“We can try and teach Brad if you like,” Lili suggested with a wink and Violet couldn’t help but blush. “All right why is it that you requested to see me?” Liliana asked continuing to sign the words she knew. There were only a few of them, but the effort was all that mattered. Violet gave her sister a stare,

“I’m sorry for my insolent on the day we arrived. We have been rogues for quite some time, and I’m not used to being in a pack.” Becca told the Luna. Lili looked at her up and down.

“Do you want to join the pack girls?” Luna Lili asked the two of them.

“Yes I do, I want to be with my mate,” Violet signed and her sister translated. The Luna looked at Becca.

“Yes I do. I can tell this pack isn’t like our old pack.”

“What pack did you come from?” Luna Lili asked.

“It was a pack in Ohio,” Becca stated vaguely.

“Well if your ever ready to tell me you left me know. Becca you are forgiven, but I hope you learn your lesson from this.” Luna stated firmly then she looked to me, “also I believe Brad is looking for you.” Violet smiled and did the sign for where.

“I think he went back home,” Lili suggested. Violet quickly signed ‘thank you’ and quickly took off for the small cabin she found herself in this morning. Brad was already there waiting for her with a frown on his face. Oh no! He was going to reject her.

“I hate to say this, but I have to leave tomorrow,” Brad told her and her heart broke.

“I have to go back to the council, the council was involved in the auction. I have to figure out how deep their involvement is,” Brad told her. Violet was upset about this, but she knew he was right. That didn’t change the fact that it felt like she was being abandoned. She quickly wrote on a piece of paper.

‘I don’t like it.’ Brad gave her a sad smile,

“Me either, but we can’t let those auctions continue. Imagine if we weren’t there,” Brad told her and Violet knew he was right. They would have been sold off to be some alpha’s s*x toy. Brad’s phone pinged and he checked it.

“You sign?” He asked her and she nodded. Brad let out a laugh,

“Well it looks like I have some learning to do on the plane ride back,” Brad said and showed Violet his phone. Luna Lili is seemed sent Brad a YouTube video of introductory signs. Violet quickly wrote something down on a notebook.

‘You will learn?’ Brad laughed,

“I don’t know how much I will learn, but I will definitely try.” Violet couldn’t help but cry a little. Violet had never felt more at home than she did in the last week.

“Come on, let’s show you around the pack,” Brad told her and grabbed her hand. “We also have to g and you a phone so I can message you while I’m gone,” Brad told her and urged her out the door. If Violet wasn’t in love with Brad before she definitely was now, she could only pray to the moon Goddess that he didn’t break her already broken heart.
