The Failed Rejection -
Chapter 61
Penelope arrived at the pack infirmary and immediately got to see her new niece and nephew. It turns out that Hudson had to be taken out via C-section and was closely monitored for the first few days as he didn’t breathe right away due to the cord wrapped around his throat. Hudson was only being allowed to be held by the Doctor and immediate family.
The other pup Finley was doing very well. Finley was a big baby that’s for sure Penelope thought as she looked at the little bundle of joy. This girl was definitely and alpha pup.
“She looks just like Callum doesn’t she?” Lili said from her bed. Penelope looked at Hudson who was still in his bed under breathing monitors and in an incubator.
“He kind of looks a little like you, if you squint your eyes,” she said which caused Nathan to laugh and Lili to smile. Penelope looked at her sister and could tell she was still healing from the traumatic birth.
“Just what I always wanted.” Nathan grabbed her hand and with a smile still firmly in place,
“He’s definitely a mix of both of us.”
“Where’s Killian?” Penelope asked finally realizing her brother wasn’t here.
“He’s dealing with the Alpha’s,” Nathan shrugged the comment off.
“What alpha’s?” Penelope asked. Nathan shook his head to say not now and she took the hint. Lili was too busy trying to feed her children to notice the exchange.
“How’s the boob feeding going?” Penelope asked and Lili sighed.
“Hudson is too lethargic to latch on, so when my milk came in he still had to bottle feed,” Lili seemed to be distressed about that.
“Babe, we talked to the doctor about this, he’s getting the milk and that’s all that matters.” Lili started to cry and Penelope decided to walk out of the room as she felt this wasn’t her place to intrude. Penelope didn’t understand society’s stress to make mother’s breastfeed. Yes it was better for the baby, but not at the expense of the mother’s mental health. From her understanding that s**t was hard, it’s not all unicorns and rainbows like you see in the movies.
Penelope must of been in her world for a bit because suddenly Nathan walked out looking stressed.
“Nathan what’s going on?” Penelope asked. “Is everything okay?” Nathan shook his head negatively.
“The werewolf council, apparently they have completely gone off the rails,” Nathan said with a sigh.
“We have always known that, they have always been a little corrupt.” Then Penelope realized. “No! They are the ones that are behind those experiments?” She was horrified and Nathan nodded.
“Killian and Brad have been rescuing shifters that have been affected by the council,” Nathan said with a heavy sigh.
Penelope of course had noticed all of the extra people in the packhouse, she had just been too preoccupied to get to her sister.
“Why don’t you go check on the meeting while I stay with Lili and the pups,” Penelope suggested and Nathan nodded. Nathan was an alpha feline it must be killing him to be left out of the meeting.
“All right they are all asleep now.” Nathan walked off toward the packhouse while she went back into her sisters room.
Braxton pov
Since it had been determined that this douche bag alpha was the closest thing they were going to replace in this state. The trio stopped pounding sand on nothing but dead ends.
They still left every morning to make it look like they were still clueless to what Brax overheard. They had rented a hotel in the closest town and stayed there quite often. Braxton’s was pissed, he was just chasing a dead end and ready to return to his mate. He needed to see her and apologize for being a foolish. In all honesty he was floundering and he needed his mate, he Luna. The Luna keeps the Alpha centered to lead her alpha mate on the best course for the pack. Brax didn’t know what the best course was, hell he didn’t even know if he was in the right ballpark.

Braxton’s was pissed, he was just chasing a dead end and ready to return to his mate. He needed to see her and apologize for being a foolish. Braxton sat at a local diner eating his triple cheeseburger with a milkshake staring at his phone willingly it to ring. Penelope hadn’t called or texted him since he left her apartment after having s*x before he left her. He didn’t know why he was unable to reach out to her first as he was in the wrong.
“Goddess just text her already,” Denali told him as he took a huge bite of his burger. Goddess his brother was a loud eater.
“How does Alana stand the sound of your chewing all the time?” Braxton asked in annoyance looking back at the phone once more.
“What do you-“
“You get used to it after awhile,” Alana said as she sat back down coming in from the bathroom. Braxton grunted noncommittally.
“Hey B,” Denali said trying to get his attention.
“Yeah,” he said still not looking up.
“Isn’t that one of those woman hanging all over the alpha?” Denali asked. Brax looked up and looked at said woman across the street. Braxton remembered the woman as being one of the Alpha’s main women, she sat in the Luna spot, but wasn’t introduced as a Luna.
“She looks mighty conspicuous,” Alana commented as the three of them watched the woman look around before darting into an alley. Alana slams a five dollar bill out of nowhere shocking him,
“I say hook up!” Braxton couldn’t help but smile at the game they used to play and haven’t for a long time. Denali went into his wallet and got money,
“I say she’s an assassin doing a hit!” Denali slammed his money on the table on top of his mate. The couple looked expectantly at him and Brax couldn’t help but smile. They hadn’t played this game since they took bets on his cub.
“Drugs, I bet it’s drugs.” Braxton wasn’t even able to get his money out of his wallet before the woman came back out looking higher than a kite. The two of them gave a g***n at loosing.
“How much you want to bet that it’s that new d**g we saw out in Philly?” Braxton said and he left the diner after quickly tossing cash onto the table to cover the check. Braxton saw his brother quickly stuffing his food into his face and quickly hurrying after him.
The three of them followed the path of the woman down the alleyway and followed the smell of that nasty d**g.
Braxton found the dealer in the alley and immediately smelled the d**g as well as the rotten smell of garbage coming off the man. Braxton took another deep smell as he grabbed the screaming man, his bear was agitated.
“Fox.” His bear muttered unhappily. How was this possible? Braxton hasn’t heard about let alone seen a single fox in the past thirty years and suddenly he’s encouraged two within six months. This is crazy.
“Are you smelling this Den?” He asked his brother.
“Are you smelling this Den?” He asked his brother.
“Still working on believing it,” his brother commented while grabbing his other shoulder. This new d**g that was sweeping through the shifter culture made users that took it incredibly unpredictable. The man looked mostly put together, unlike that junkie they questioned lest week. The man was relatively clean, Brax quickly inspected him body and didn’t see any signs of d**g use. The dealer put up some weak protest, but seemed to know the drill.
“Wait! You aren’t cops, or pack. Who are you?” When the dealer realized the three bearshifters in front of him were strangers he started to go crazy. Brax knew the man was on the d**g so it would be highly unlikely that he could knock him unconscious. Brax and Denali had to wrestle him to to their motel room so they could question him.
“Goddess this fucker won’t stop wriggling! It’s like wrestling a greased pig!” Denali said as he held the dealer down in the hotel chair and Alana pulled out some handcuffs. Brax looked at the handcuffs,
“Where did you get?” Then realization dawned. “Oh gross-“ his brother and sister-in-law laughed at his naïveté.
“Let me go!” He shouted as the fox was secured and they backed away.
“So who do you work for fox?” Denali asked.
“The rogue king,” the fox said with a maniacal laugh.
“The rogue king is dead, killed by the Midnight Howlers Pack’s Alpha,” Braxton stated.
“Nah that was his father!” The man let out another round of laughter. It was clear the man was high.
“What’s wrong with this guy?” Alanna asked.
“He’s high on his own drugs,” Denali said in disgust.
“The rogue king is a genius!” The fox shouted. “Gathering all species together, bears, foxes, wolf’s.” The man started to rant and mumble.
“By using threats? And intimidation?” Braxton asked furious.
“Not to mention getting them addicted to this d**g, he created this didn’t he?” Denali asked and Braxton was furious for not seeing it himself.
“Of course he did! He’s a genius!” The fox continued to rant and rave like a lunatic.
“Where is he?” Braxton asked.
“What you don’t know?” The laughter was getting on his nerves.
“Know what?” Alanna asked confused.
“It’s alpha Shawn, he’s the new rogue king.”
“That’s impossible! The rogue king was a wolf,” Braxton dismisses the junkie dealer.
“He’s a hybrid,” the dealer laugher and Braxton’s b***d ran cold.
“This is bad,” Alana stated the obvious to the room. The d**g dealer continued to laugh and Braxton had enough so he tried punching him in the face. The moron was so high it had no effect on him and Braxton g*****d.
“Goddess kill me now!” Alana muttered and went to her bag. She rummaged around and came out with with duct tape.
“Shut up!” She screamed and placed tore off some tape placing it over his mouth.
This is bad, hybrids are unpredictable as there have been very few known births to live past infancy. If this Alpha Shawn was indeed the rogue King he would be very powerful as he most likely had alpha b***d on both side.
Braxton needed reinforcements.
