The Failed Rejection -
Chapter 69
Brad pov
The calling of an alpha wolf could be heard throughout the battlefield and sent chills thorough any one who heard it. It made his wolf want to answer Kai’s call and run to his side. The insane fighting that had erupted after the explosions had let off came to an abrupt halt for five seconds. It was just long enough for Seth to take a stock on the situation and start firing. He was the first one to reengage after the alpha battle cry. His men were surrounded him with their backs to each other.
The men had met back up together after planting the explosives, all but Seth which caused Brad to worry. Sadly no one was able to go look for him as the warriors hadn’t stopped coming since this whole thing began.
“That’s your alpha?” Dustin asked once he got his bearings.
“Yeah,” he responded and fired off his g*n as more of his former colleagues came running out. Brad saw betrayal in their eyes before they went lifeless as he shot them hitting his mark. Brad felt absolutely no remorse. These men all had innocent b***d on their hands. Brad wasn’t innocent either, but he was filled with self-loathing for his past actions. These men loved what they did as the council’s elite warriors. These men weren’t elite warriors, they were just thugs.
“I haven’t heard such a powerful wolf call since Elder Brooks,” Dustin said as he continued shooting.
“I’m almost out of ammo,” John called out. Brad went to one of the bodies on the ground and went looking for ammo. He checked the side cargo pockets and found two extra clips, though they were lead bullets not silver. It would have to do.
“Dustin!” Brad yelled and tossed him the clips. Dustin caught it and then his hand immediately dropped it,
“That s**t is dipped in aconite!” Brad didn’t bother to wonder how Dustin knew that, but the reality of dying became more real. Brad saw the armored trucks had rolled up and knew it going to get bad.
“We need to move, Dustin can you lay down cover while I lead us out?” Brad asked as the councils men were starting to get their bearings.
“Yeah! Let’s go!” Dustin shouted. It was a short distance to the cover of trees from their location, but under the cover of gunfire it was going to feel like a mile.
Brad started running with the help of his wolf while laying some cover fire of his own. Then he heard it,
“Ahh!” One of the men cried out in pain stumbling as he got shot in the leg. Brad was able to barely break his stride and swoop him up on a fireman’s carry and continue running.
“Keep shooting!” He hollered at the man whose name he couldn’t remember cause it was a funny one.
“It’s silver!” He shouted out in agony.
“Just f*****g shoot or we are all going to die!” Brad yelled. He couldn’t shoot and carry this man at the same time. Everyone else was laying down cover fire as they were running to the trees. Brad finally felt the the man pull himself a up slightly off his pack and start shooting wildly. Brad just hoped he didn’t shoot any of the men.
They finally managed to get toward a cluster of trees and Brad was able to lay the man down who started crying like he leg was amputated.
“Hold him,” Brad said with no emotions and his men quickly did as instructed. Dustin kept a look out for any intruders.
“What are you doing?” He asked hysterically.
“We have to removed the bullet before the silver poisons the b***d and you die,” Brad stated as he tore away the clothe around the wound. Brad quickly before the man could protest further tore into his flesh and found the bullet. The sucker was in there quite a ways and the man was screaming quite profusely. Brad finally managed to pull it out and held it up for the man to see, once he did the young inexperienced wolf passed out. Brad laughed and asked the men,
“What was his name again?”
Seth pov
Pain, Seth had never felt so much pain even after having a huge chunk taken out of his side by a rouge last year. His chest felt like it was being caved in on and he was unable to move.
“Mate,” his wolf cried out. That’s when Seth belatedly realized not all the pain was his own, he was feeling his mates pain from the fragile mate bond that was just beginning to form. Seth tried opening his eyes and only saw black, he used his wolf’s night vision though that didn’t help much. The air was filled with smoke and probably asbestos. He was unable to see given he buried under a mountain of debris he finally realized. They were caught in the blast and buried under the rubble.
“Mate!” He said frantically as he finally got his bearings and realized his was half way draped over his mate who was unconscious. He checked his body and realized that both of them had a beam pinned on their legs. Seth quickly removed it and then did a quick scan of his mate’s body.
“I wish I knew your name mate,” he whispered as he finally reached her head he pulled back a hand full of b***d. She hit her head hard on something.
“It’s Alora,” a sweet voice in a whisper. Seth looked down into those enchanting eyes and was instantly lost.
“Huh?” He responded dumbly causing his mate to smile.
“My name. It’s Alora,” Alora said a little bit stronger.
“How are you feeling?” Seth asked.
“Weak,” she responded. Seth nodded and scooped up her tiny frame easily next to his much larger body. Alora gasped and grabbed her head. Seth stood up and started looking for the exit.
“What are you doing?” She asked him.
“We have to get out of here before we are found,” Seth stated and headed for the doors. What he saw brought him up short. It was an all out war and Seth had never seen anything like it. There was armored ricks, gunfire, and shifted wolf’s fighting.
Bodies, there were dead bodies everywhere. Seth has never seen so many dead bodies everywhere. Seth was busy paying attention to the devastation around him and didn’t realized that a different truck had come up on the right to secure the exit.
“Seth!” Alora screamed and Seth wasn’t sure the best option to take. He started to retreat, but his hesitation was enough.
“Freeze!” Having a mate suddenly made the threat of death all the more real. Then without warning the men turned and started shooting each other. Seth was confused until he felt his mate trembling. He looked down and saw that her eyes were glowing white!
Seth no longer hesitated and decided to run for the trees with his mate still in his arms and her eyes still glowing. Seth knew it was a risk as Alora didn’t have any protection, but then suddenly he felt something emanate from within her and surround the two of them. Seth was confused at first until a bullet ricocheted off whatever force field his mate was able to put up. Seth continued to run as his wolf was getting anxious.
“Hurry human, mate getting weak.” His wolf allowed him to tap into his speed and made it to the trees at an inhuman speed. Seth looked around and found a nice grove of trees that offered decent amount of protection against stray bullets. Seth laid down Alora and checked her over for any injuries.
“Do you believe I’m your mate now?” Alora asked breathing heavy. Instead of answering Seth leaned down and gave his mate a quick but hard k**s.
“We need to get you seen by a doctor,” Seth responded when he pulled away from her amazing lips and went to go pick her up but she resisted.
“No! We hate the council too, my family,” Alora halted she stated and she pointed to somewhere behind him. Seth saw two females, one younger and one older.
“Who are you?” He asked wary.
“I am Alora’s aunt Belladonna, you can call me Bella. This is my daughter Gianna, we followed Alora once we realized she was missing.” Seth remained on guard as it was odd the two of them showed up exactly where he happened to be. Seth could still use them he thought back to his mate singing before the blast.
“Can you sing?” He asked and the woman nodded.
“I can too,” Alora stated.
“No,” her aunt stated and he said at the same time.
“My wolf says you are weak, so you stay here and protect yourself with this,” Seth said and give his mate one of his sidearms. Seth looked at the two women and guided them toward the break in the forest. They came close and started to sing a chilling melody. Brad watched as surrounding men stopped and started walking to the sirens.
“Why doesn’t this affect me?” Brad thought.
“You are mated to a siren so you are immune to all of siren pheromones,” his wolf told him.
Braxton pov
He watched his mate staring out the window of the plane in silence. They were returning to Pennsylvania heartbroken, but together. That’s all that mattered. Braxton tried to convince Penelope to return to the comfort of her pack for a few days but she refused. She said it would it would be too hard to return now. Braxton was confused but Dash told him in the mindlink that Lili just gave birth to twins a week ago. He simply nodded and agreed to what Penelope wanted. Denali was in charge of the local pack and he put his mate on the plane three days later when the doctor cleared her. She was still under a watchful eye as she had such a bad concussion. Braxton called the University and they were resistant, hell downright hostile at first. Braxton had to create and send a fake police report of the crash, hospital records, and even ambulance records to prove Penelope needed to be excused from this week of school. The administration acted as if she was on vacation, no this past week was hell. The university finally caved and allowed her to be excused from school. Penelope still had make up what she missed and wouldn’t get special treatment. Braxton hung up the phone after three hours, pissed, but able to give his mate the good news.
Penelope, however, didn’t react to the news at all and that made Braxton worry. Alanna told him to give his mate sometime to absorb the news and to process the loss. That’s what he was doing, he hoped. His father was calling him wanting to know when he would return and Braxton simply told him that he didn’t know and hung up. All that mattered was his mate at this point.
