The Fox and The Wolf
Chapter 11: Already have an enemy

Avery

Who knew organizing a barbecue was going to take this long! We have been going at this for about 3 hours, and it’s taking place tonight. So, we have to get this done soon.

I was walking to the kitchen when someone bumped my shoulder.

“Oh my gosh. I’m so sorry.” I apologized.

The person looked up and glared at me…Sadie.

“You should be bitch.” She sneered.

I admit, I was a little taken back by her comment. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me. You should be sorry.”

“Okay? Uh why?”

“You don’t deserve Jake. And you certainly don’t deserve to be a Luna. Jake is hot, sexy, strong, everything your not. You are just a weak pathetic little human.”

I stared at her in shock as she continued to insult me.

‘Why I outta. I swear, once I get out, I’m ripping her to shreds. How dare she disrespect me?!’ Red rambled on and on.

“Listen. I’m sure on the inside, deep, deep, very deep down, you’re a lovely person. But I’m Jake’s mate. Not you.” I told her slowly so she could understand.

“Of course I’m Jake’s mate. I’m actually a werewolf unlike you, and I’m hot. So of course I belong with him.” She stated as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Ahh hellllllll no.

“Listen here Sadie.” I growled stepping towards her. No one tries to take my mate away from me. I’m getting a hold of this mate thing, and it’s starting to make me get more jealous and worrying about him. And truthfully, it’s starting to scare me. “You do not belong with him. I do, hence why I’m his mate. And a relationship only has two people in it. Get the picture? Two people, not three, or four, or five. Just two. And that is me and Jake. Not me, Jake, and Sadie. So back off.”

“You’ll regret this…Luna.” She growled in my face.

“Oh please. I could so kick you pathetic skinny little ass.”

She gasped at me before stomping out of the kitchen. “Ugh. Little bitch.” I mumbled under my breath.

I heard someone clapping and turned around to see Liam with a proud smile on his face. “That was great.”

“Thanks. And sorry for saying all that stuff about your cousin Liam.”

He waved me off. “It’s alright. I think the same exact stuff about her.” He laughed.

“You’re a nice cousin.” I teased.

He stuck his tongue out at me but he got serious. “Can I ask you something?”

I walked up to him and laid a hand on his shoulder. “Sure. Anything.”

“Okay. Come with me.” He said before grabbing my wrist and dragging me down the hallway.

He kept dragging me up stairs and into a room.

“Is this your room?” I asked looking around.

“Yes.” He replied.

“Why are we in your room?”

“Because it’s private and no one will hear us.” I think he saw the look on my face because his eyes went wide and he started shaking his violently. “No no no. Not that Avery.” He laughed. “I want to talk to you about something.”

“Okay.” I said taking a seat in his mushroom chair while he sat on the bed.

“I know what you are.” He said out of he blue.

“Ya. I’m an 18 year old girl who got kidnapped by my werewolf mate with the help of his little werewolf friends.” I replied causally trying not to think this is about Red.

“Ha ha. Very funny.” He said while I laughed. “No, I’m talking about I know you can shift into a fox.”

I stopped laughing immediately and looked at him in disbelief. “Wh-what?”

He crossed his arms and stared directly at me. “I know you can shift into a fox Avery. I saw it, so don’t even try to lie to me.”

“But how? I never saw you around. ” Oh my gosh. This can’t be happening.

“When you helped us in the fight with the rogues. When Jake said he needed to go looking for you to make sure you were okay, I saw your eyes go huge before you zoomed off in the other direction. So I followed you. I watched as you were in your fox form and you climbed up the tree and brought Lilly back on the ground. I was about to step in because I thought you were attacking her, but then I saw you shift. It’s all starting to make sense now.”

I slumped back in the chair and tried to focus on what he was telling me. He knew…..

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“The day at the park. Your eyes switched colors and you growled. And also the time at the house. Your eyes switched again and you growled. You had inhuman speed, plus your voice sounded completely different.”

“Oh.” I replied rubbing my thighs.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I looked up and met his eyes. They held so much emotion. Betrayal, sadness, guilt.

“I don’t know. Red told me not too. She doesn’t want anyone to know.”

“Red?” He asked.

“My fox.” I explained.

His mouth formed an ‘o’ shape. “So no more secrets?”

I smiled at him. “No more secrets.”

“Cool. Oh and while we are discussing this, Jake assigned me as your personal bodyguard.”

“Seriously?!” I groaned and fell back against the chair.

“Ya.” He laughed. “But it’s okay. At least I don’t hate you anymore.”

“Ya I guess you’re right. I don’t hate you anymore either.”

“Gee thanks.” He laughed. “So how come when you shift back to human, you’re clothes don’t tear like ours?”

“Maybe because I’m smaller?” I said unsure. “I dunno know really. And I also know about the mind linking thing. I can mind like with you guys.”

“Well after Jake marks you of course.” Liam said.

I nodded. “I know.”

“Are you gonna tell him?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. Red told me I can’t tell anyone. She doesn’t want this to get in the wrong hands. But please promise me you won’t tell anyone.”

“I promise.” He smiled.

“Thankyou Liam. So much.”

“Don’t sweat about it.”

“Okay now my turn for a question.” I said sitting up.

“Shoot.”

“Why did you get all depressed and sad when you asked me why I didn’t tell you?”

“That was my wolf. And me too. You see, you kept a secret from us, and as our Luna, pack members don’t like it when you don’t tell them something. They worry about you and their wolves will get their feelings hurt if their own Luna doesn’t trust them with something.”

“So by not telling you, your wolf thought I couldn’t trust him?”

“Correct.”

I looked down at my hands ashamed. “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you sorry?”

“I hurt all of you guys.” I admitted.

“Avery. It’s okay, my wolf understands. And I’m pretty sure the rest of the pack will too.”

“Okay.”

“Let’s go back downstairs.” He told me standing up and offering me his hand.

I took it and he helped me up before we walked downstairs.

“There you guys are. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” Jake rushed out before he pulled me into a hug.

I laughed at him and hugged him back. “I’m right here. Is the barbecue ready?”

He nodded. “Yep. Everyone is out in the back.”

“Alright. Let’s go.” I smiled and we made our way outside.
