As the board members all realized that Helen may be better than Kallum, they knew that their best option right now was to apologize and surrender their authority in hopes that Helen would keep them around. That was the only way to keep what they had instead of losing everything. It was frustrating, but none of them had the guts to oppose Helen now.

All the contempt and dismissive attitude before was now replaced by fear and reverence.

"Hmph. Since you're all being so earned, I guess I can forgive you."

Helen glanced at Frank before looking around at the board members. "I promise not to pursue responsibility for your previous transgressions, but you are still obliged to reimburse the company for the damages you cause. I have taken over this company with the goal to lead it to new heights, and I promise that no one would lose out if you are with me. Everyone would be showered in riches, even... So, can you do that?"

The board members were certainly grateful for her extraordinary magnanimity and kept bowing their heads in thanks.

After all, they had two choices: with the first, they were allowed to make amends and keep their jobs, while the company headed to a brighter future.

With the second, they would lose everything-even their freedom.

No one except fools would choose poorly here, and almost every board member had chosen to pledge their loyalty to Helen.

Only Kallum was glowering, his gaze evasive and his thoughts inscrutable.

"My wife is really scary." Frank smiled in his corner.

Even he had to admit that Helen was a cold, lethal ice queen when she was being professional.

Her carrot and stick method certainly reined in the fickle board members, and it was all done in under half an hour since they arrived.

Helen then turned to Kallum. "It seems that you're still reluctant to join me, Mr. Gaetz. Perhaps you have more to say?"

Kallum was the only problem they had now.

As the ringleader, he was the most volatile board member, but Helen had no intention of forgiving him from the start either. After all, he had abused his authority for years, embezzling so much capital from Lane Holdings that they could execute him ten times over.

Kallum finally looked up at that.

Whipping out his phone and brandishing the lit screen at Helen, he narrowed his eyes and laughed at her. "Haha! I must admit that you're as well connected as you are competent, Ms. Lane, but it's far from enough... you still don't understand the depth of my might!"

Slowly rising to his feet, he continued, "I've already done my homework. You're just a woman with a freeloading gigolo constantly tagging along after you, and you think you can take me down in my own turf? How naive!"

The door was kicked open with a bang right then, and a bunch of goons wearing black suits charged inside the conference room menacingly.

"Now, let me teach you your last lesson in life." Kallum laughed haughtily. "In this world, might makes right!"
