After everyone cursed Peter out for a while, Helen brought the conversation back on track. "Mom, how did you get hurt?"

Cindy shrugged and said quietly, "Aunt Gina couldn't replace Peter or Larry, so she went to Zomber Group to demand her money back. They refused since she had signed an agreement, so she started arguing, and there was a little scuffle and she hit her head on the wall."

"Mom... You've really messed up big time!" Helen sighed, knowing that the fault was not entirely on Gina.

Her baby boy was just too heinous, tricking his own mother and then doing the same to his sister, even selling off his own sister for money.

One could only say that he was as brazen as he was heinous.

Helen frowned. "Calm down, Mom. Just tell me how much money did you lose? I'll see if I can help pay it off."

Gina opened her mouth but turned to Cindy since she was too embarrassed to say it.

"This much," Cindy said, spreading her palm.

"Fifty million?"

Helen was taken aback, but took a deep breath to repress her rage. "That's a lot of money, but some income from the resort farm and Lane Holdings would make up for it."

Then, staring at Cindy, she added pointedly, "Take this as a lesson, Mom. Never trust anyone easily-especially family."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Cindy was upset with Helen's stare. "Also, you have it wrong. It's not fifty million-it's 500 million. You hear? 500 million!"

"500 million?!" Helen froze at the number, and exclaimed in disbelief "Where did you get so much money, Mom?!"

Gina cringed into herself as she muttered, "I-I had some savings, and I sold the manor and used Lane Holdings as collateral to take a loan..."

"Mom!" Helen was incensed, shaking in rage. "H-How could you do this?! I have no problems with you selling the manor and using all your savings, but you used my position to take a loan, with Lane Holdings as collateral?! You just want to get me killed, don't you?!"

In the end, her family would make her take the fall for their sheer stupidity.

Helen felt the world spinning around her and almost passed out.

"It's all my fault... I thought you should support your brother as an older sibling, but I thought you'd be too busy, so I made the call..."

Gina trailed off and did not even dare to look at her daughter in the end.

"You should at least ask!" Helen snapped, still trying her best to stay calm. "How could you borrow from loan sharks? What are you going to do if you can't pay up?! Are we supposed to pay with our lives?!" "Why do you have to be so petty?" Gina grumbled. "Everyone knows Lanecorp is worth billions, and 500 million is just a small number."

"Mom!"

Helen could die from sheer frustration right then. "I only just took the reins and there's still a huge mess to be sorted out. And even if it's worth billions, do you think we don't have to pay our employees?! I'm the board chairwoman, not a god! The money didn't fall out of the sky, but it's pooled together by the board members! How could I take their money to cover your mess?! What would that make me?!"
