That was why Edon despised Lubor.

Moreover, if Lubor took over, their family would completely fall under the control of Hundred Bane Sect and be reduced to lab rats.

That was why Chet never let down his guard despite Lubor seemingly compromising.

"Chet, why don't we just take them up on their offer?"

Edon turned toward his eldest brother anxiously. "As long as we're not reduced to vassals of Hundred Bane Sect, anything else can wait after they cure Jaden." "You're being naive."

Chet shook his head, smirking at Edon. "Do you really think Lubor is sincere about helping us? Just think about it-what would the Martial Alliance do if they found out we handed their chief over to Hundred Bane Sect?" "Oh!"

Edon smacked himself on the lap for the umpteenth time and wheeled on Lubor furiously. "I knew you were up to no good!"

"Now, now. You've got it all wrong." Lubor smiled, shaking his head. "The elders of Hundred Bane Sect have spoken. The chief of the Martial Alliance is actually loyal to the Lord of the Southern Woods, and he's ready to cut her loose after she failed to obtain the spiritron vein.

"In other words, you lose nothing even if you hand her over to me, and it goes without saying that we're not going to tell anyone about this. It's no loss to the Martial Alliance anyway, so they won't come to bother you."

Chet frowned. "Really?"

"Of course I won't lie to you."

Lubor smiled. "It's a win-win for the family, earning a favor from Hundred Bane Sect while getting Jaden cured."

Still, Chet pressed, "And what do you want the chief of the Martial Alliance for?"

"Oh, there are plenty of reasons! Let's just say that Hundred Bane Sect won't make a deal unless there's something in it for them."

Lubor laughed. "For example, she started her training as a child, and her body is honed to perfection-it'd be the perfect breeding ground for various toxic scarabs. And she has intimate details about the Lord of the Southern Woods..." Chet was left thoughtful.

He knew that his family would be held responsible if they gave the chief of the Martial Alliance over to Hundred Bane Sect.

However, Hundred Bane Sect was not stupid enough to tell everyone about that, and none would be the wiser as long as they kept quiet.

Who knew? When Jaden recovered, he might even become the next chief of the Martial Alliance.

With that in mind, the Favonis would lose nothing while gaining everything.

It was a win for everyone save for the chief of the Martial Alliance, who was barely alive now.

But now was not the time for compassion.

Chet was just about to say yes when a servant came rushing in, crying panickedly, "Master Favoni... We have a visitor!"

Chet was left frowning. "What? That's perfectly normal-why are you panicking?"

"Well, sir... It's that man from Zamri who dueled Master Jaden!"

Edon flew into a rage right then. "What is he doing here?! Did he come here to mock us?!"

"Wait!"

Seeing that Edon was ready to go after Frank, Chet stopped him, his expression shocked in realization. "Wasn't he poisoned too when he fought Jaden? Why is he still alive, even coming to pay us a visit?" Edon did a double take in realization as well-his brother was right! Why did he not think of that?!
