Just as Kat was about to retort, Kali took off her coat and strode over, frowning as she snapped, "Mrs. Zeig, these people are my guests. Don't you think you're being impolite?!" "No, Kali. You're out of line," Mrs. Zeig snapped back, showing Kali no respect at all despite just being a maid, even lecturing her, "If your father and brother knew, you will be punished!" "I know," Kali replied.

She was scowling and clearly unhappy with Mrs. Zeig's attitude, but she had to keep it bottled since Mrs. Zeig had backing. "Forget deciding my marriage on their own-I can't even bring my friends into my own house? What next-will my personal freedom be restricted too?"

Seeing that Kali was really angry, Mrs. Zeig quickly hung her head.

"You're exaggerating-I'm just doing as Mr. Sturgeon tells me to. It's to avoid..."

Mrs. Zeig sneaked a look upstairs, clearing her throat. "To avoid any messy rumors about the family."

"Hmph. You don't have to worry about that."

Kali snorted coolly. "Go rat me out all you want-none of you are getting what you want. This man is a doctor I asked for, and he just might cure Lauren!"

"Who, him?"

Mrs. Zeig glanced at Frank and chuckled in disdain. "All the professors and specialists Mr. Sturgeon brought in couldn't cure him, and some plain brat can do it? You're a poor liar, Kali."

"I don't need you meddling. Get off!"

Kali snapped and pushed Mrs. Zeig away, leading Kat and Frank upstairs.

"She's really getting worse by the day," Mrs. Zeig glowered as she watched them leave, and whipped out her phone to call Wilk Sturgeon in his study.

Meanwhile, Kat and Frank followed Kali into a spacious room, where a young man whose hair had fallen off entirely was laying sickly on a bed.

Forget getting out of bed he could not even move.

"Lauren!" Kat cried out right then.

The youth, who was spacing out, was yanked to his senses from Kat's sharp yell.

He turned his head with great difficulty toward her voice and forced a smile. "O-Oh, Kat. You're here..."

"What is going on here, Lauren?! How could this happen to you?! What?!"

Kat rushed to the bed, grabbing Lauren's hand as tears welled in her eyes.

They were close, or Kat would not be that devastated.

"Hehe... I-I wanted this..."

It was taxing for Lauren to even speak.

He then turned toward a quiet Kali, flashing a pained smile when he saw the bag of medicine she was holding. "S-Sorry, Kali... you had to waste more of your money again..." "No. I owe you way more than that," Kali replied, her expression troubled.

"There's no owing between us. Like I said, I wanted this..." Lauren rasped.

Seeing how feeble Lauren was, with his lips turning purple, Frank could certainly tell he was not suffering from a cold or paralysis.
