Chapter 47 Do Not Overthink

“I won’t let go, Auri. I love you too much! We’ve known each other for over seven years, and in all honesty, haven’t we been deeply in love during these years? No one understands ine better than you do, and I understand you too. Auri, let’s get married. Once we’re married, you can take your time to test me, I swear I’ve never done anything to betray you.”

Curtis gripped even tighter.

He truly couldn’t bear to lose Aurelia.

Only Aurelia truly cared for him, and it was only through Aurelia that he might have a chance to become the son–in–law of the Leedon family.

Aurelia pursed her lips.

Her revulsion toward Curtis’s touch had reached its extreme.

A dark shadow clouded her beautiful eyes. She lifted her foot and kicked toward Curtis, followed by a swift flip. With this move, she sent Curtis tumbling backward.

A loud bang was heard.

Curtis was seeing stars after the fall. “Aur…”

Aurelia cast her gaze upon the disheveled Curtis, his handsome features and innocent appearance somewhat striking. “Curtis, you’ve deceived me for over seven years. Did you think you could continue to

fool me? The photo you posted in the group chat, I saw you taking it with Melanie myself. Your

desperation is utterly repulsive to me.”

“You, you…” Curtis was still in a daze even then..

How exactly did Aurelia manage to knock me over just now?

For a moment, he seemed to lose all strength and was easily toppled over.

He wanted to get up but found that he still lacked the strength.

“I’ve already told you it’s not true. What you saw was Winona seducing me. How could you…” Curtis was still trying to lie, unwilling to give up.

Aurelia pulled out a pair of sun sleeves from her bag and stuffed them into Curtis’s mouth.

“Well said, but don’t repeat it next time.”

Watching Curtis, whose eyes were filled with rage, Aurelia remained expressionless.

Seven years of time, along with the inhuman experiences of her past life, had all transformed into a profound hatred.

She turned around, opened the car door, and got into the car.

Finally gathering his strength, Curtis managed to pull himself up. He yanked the sleeve out of his mouth and said, “Aurelia, do you even know what you’re doing?”

He forcefully tapped on the car window, signaling Aurelia to roll it down.

Aurelia put on her sunglasses, not sparing him a glance. She had grown to deeply despise this man, Curtis.

The faint sorrow in her heart could no longer affect her mood.

Curtis‘ face contorted slightly as he pounded on the car window and attempted to open the car door.

However, Aurelia had already locked the car doors. Now, no matter what Curtis did, it was in vain. The car doors wouldn’t open, and the windows wouldn’t shatter.

Aurelia had seen Curtis in all sorts of states, but it was extremely rare to see him so frustrated and furious.

She raised her middle finger, then slammed on the gas, and the car shot off.

Caught off guard, Curtis nearly fell flat on the ground. He stood there, watching the car speed away while his entire body trembled with rage. He roared, “Aurelia, how dare you!”

An hour later, Aurelia returned to Starry Sea Mansion.

As soon as she opened the door and entered, it was immediately apparent that the mansion was shrouded in darkness. Even after turning on the lights, the darkness persisted.

“Is there a power outage?”

She turned on the flashlight on her phone.

The entrance was briefly illuminated.

Suddenly, the door that had just been closed behind was opened.

In the pitch–black surroundings, Aurelia was startled. “Who’s there!”

Hearing the cry of alarm, Matthew turned toward Aurelia, who was holding up her mobile phone. Her phone cast an eerie, ghastly green glow on her face. Coupled with her previous scream, it inexplicably created a bizarre and unsettling atmosphere.

“It’s me. Why aren’t the lights on?” Matthew asked.

“It must be a power outage.” Aurelia’s heart, which had been pounding wildly, calmed down a bit upon hearing the familiar voice.

She looked at Matthew, who was standing in front of her.

He was still wearing the same suit he had on outside the barbecue restaurant.

Under the illumination of the cellphone light, his features were clearly outlined. His inherent aloofness gave him an air of mystery.

She froze for two seconds, looking at his face, then put on her shoes and walked toward the sofa.

Because the path was unclear and the flashlight illuminated only a limited area, Aurelia unknowingly stepped on something with her left foot, causing her to fall backward.

Matthew happened to be right behind her. Hearing the startled cry, he took long strides instinctively and reached out with his long arms. He managed to catch her as she was about to fall backward, holding her securely in his arms.

The two were extremely close to each other.

Aurelia’s face was practically pressed against his chest.

Even through the fabric of his shirt and suit, she could feel the contours of the muscles beneath. The powerful throb of his heartbeat resonated in her ears, a steady drumming that was impossible to ignore.

His mind was somewhat blank.

When Matthew came to his senses, his entire back and arm were still. By some strange coincidence, his arm was pressed against the soft part of her body. The faint warmth of her skin seeped through several layers of clothing into him, causing his entire arm to tingle momentarily.

The hand that caught her just so happened to land perfectly on her slender waist.

It seemed as though her slender waist could be encircled by just two hands.

The light in the room was quite dim, but when their eyes met, it seemed as if they could see into each. other’s souls.

Matthew’s gaze was deep and dark. As if compelled by some unseen force, his head slowly lowered.

Just as his lips were about to descend, Aurelia’s phone suddenly rang.

In the quiet mansion, the ring of the mobile phone was particularly jarring.

It jolted the two individuals back to their senses.

Matthew glanced at Aurelia’s phone, where the name Curtis was flashing. He immediately let go of Aurelia and adjusted his tic.

“Your phone is ringing.” He spoke in a low voice.

When Aurelia saw that it was Curtis, she hung up the call.

Just a moment ago, I have given him a good beating, yet he still hasn’t given up?

“Not answering?” Matthew strode past Aurelia and settled himself on the black couch.

“What?” Aurelia was somewhat dazed, not catching what Matthew had said.

Moreover, his voice sounded somewhat cold and deep.

Reflecting on their recent interaction, she wondered if he had intended to kiss her.

Impossible. I shouldn’t overthink it!

“You’re not answering Curtis/call?” Matthew felt a knot in his chest, an indescribable feeling. When he asked again, his tone was even colder than before.

It was still Curtis.

She hung up once again.

Just after hanging up, another call came in.

Just as Aurelia was about to add Curtis to her blacklist, she saw that the incoming call was from Charlie. Turning to Matthew, she said, “I need to take this call first.”

As she ascended the stairs, she answered the phone. The staircase was even darker, and she trod carefully. “Auri, is what they’re saying online true? Did Curtis really not cheat?” Charlie asked anxiously.

“Just wait for me a moment, Charlic. I’ll speak with you shortly,” Aurelia said.

On the couch, Matthew watched as Aurelia ascended the stairs, his brows raising slightly.

Did she believe in the Leedon family’s denial, thinking that Curtis hadn’t cheated? It seems she still has lingering feelings for him. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been a hint of reluctance when hanging up the phone just now, an unwillingness to let go. She is inexplicably hung up on an utterly ordinary man.
