The Heiress’ Hidden Alliance -
Chapter 59

The moment the cigarette was lit, the contours of his face flickered in and out of visibility.
Aurelia couldn’t fathom what Matthew was thinking. She could only speculate by saying, “Rest assured, Mr. Quigley, I know my limits. I won’t engage in any romantic relationships for the next three years. I absolutely won’t give Old Mrs. Quigley any cause for concern.”
He’s probably afraid that I would get entangled with Curtis, isn’t he? He doesn’t want the matter to be brought before Old Mrs. Quigley. There were just some things Aurelia couldn’t tell him. If he knew about her previous life experiences, he would surely not think that she and Curtis were entangled in a complicated relationship. After all, she wasn’t the type to enjoy suffering. She wasn’t that pathetic.
Matthew gave a light hum in response.
Aurelia felt a surge of emotion welling up within her. Unable to hold it back, she said to Matthew, “Mr. Quigley, you asked me to refrain from dating, to keep my emotions clear for three years. I hope you will do the same.
Demands were mutual. It was unreasonable to expect her alone to fulfill them.
Matthew noticed the prickly tension radiating from Aurelia.
Suddenly, he felt the irritation that had been weighing on his heart disappear.
With rare patience, he said, “I will also abide by the agreement.”
Seeing that things were settled, Aurelia decided to call it a night. “That’s good, then. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
After Aurelia returned to her room to sleep, Matthew took a bottle of water from the refrigerator. After taking a few sips, he went outside and finished the rest of his cigarette.
He saw the WhatsApp message that Justin had sent him on his phone.
Justin asked him: Are you also at the hot spring resort?
Matthew recalled the sounds he had heard while soaking in the hot spring earlier and tapped the screen a
few times.
Matthew replied: Did you bring a woman with you?
Justin: Did the receptionist tell you that?
Matthew lowered his gaze and replied: No.
News from Justin ceased, Matthew turned off his mobile phone, and then, with his long strides, he returned to the mansion.
Early the next morning, the driver came to fetch Aurelia.
Matthew was still at the hot spring resort, saying he would pick up Mabel from Elijah’s place around ten.

As she was about to enter the workspace, Chad grabbed Aurelia’s arm and asked, “Has Old Mr. Gardner’s team called you yet?”
He had been trying to win over Norman for several days, confident that Norman would agree to let Aurelia join his team.
With a hint of regret, Aurelia said, “Yesterday afternoon, I received a message from Old Mr. Gardner’s team. Unfortunately, I’m not accepted.”
“What?” Chad’s eyes widened, clearly not expecting this outcome.
“It’s nothing, really. I do lack experience, and my university studies weren’t focused on archaeology or history, so it’s understandable that they didn’t accept me. I was prepared for this outcome. Still, I appreciate you letting me know about this opportunity.” Aurelia noticed Chad’s shock, assuming he felt sorry for her.
Upon hearing their words, David responded directly, “I have already recommended Aurelia to the auction house. Once Aurelia finishes her tasks here, she can apply for a position there. The remuneration and bonuses they offer are quite substantial.”
The auction house is nowhere as good as Old Mr. Gardner’s team.” Chad scratched his head and glared at David. He truly hadn’t expected Norman to be so heartless. Why is he disregarding our relationship like that? I’ve already assured him repeatedly. Why won’t he believe me? Stubbornly, he regards Aurelia as just a young lady. He must be convinced that whoever I recommended surely lacked competence. He firmly believes that my sole intention was to woo the girl, and then boast to her, claiming that I could introduce her to his team. Why do other people’s grandfathers shower their grandchildren with endless affection? Yet, my grandpa is always against me. Grandpa should know better. It’s clear that Aurelia is really capable. Not only is Aurelia skilled in restoring antiques, but she also has a knack for appraising treasures. Anything that passes through Aurelia’s discerning gaze, whether it is fake or of poor quality, she’s able to identify it at a glance.
Norman was truly advanced in years, insisting on determining a person’s abilities based on their age and experience.
Aurelia pushed open the door and entered her workshop. She disliked being disturbed while working. requiring both peace and concentration. The fact that she hadn’t been accepted into Norman’s team didn’t matter much to her.
However, it was merely a moment of slight disappointment when the outcome became known.
Chad watched as Aurelia quickly got into work mode, and in frustration, he sent a WhatsApp message to Norman.
Chad’s message read: I should go and get a DNA test done, as I have doubts that you are my grandfather.
Norman quickly responded: When you have time, you and your father should go for a DNA test. I suspect you may not be your father’s biological child.
Chad was gripping his phone, so angry that he wanted to crush it into pieces. In my previous life, I must have done something to incur divine punishment, for in this life, I ended up with such a grandfather!
After responding to Chad’s WhatsApp message, Norman turned his attention to the few individuals who had gone for an interview that day.
He was personally conducting the interview that day.

Several individuals who were interviewed had substantial experience in the industry, and they were verifying the authenticity of various antiques.
That day, several hours were needed for interviews. His team had always set high standards for newcomers. Those without real skills dared not appear before him.
The interview had many hurdles.
In truth. Norman was very fond of his grandson. It was just that his grandson was usually unreliable, surrounding himself with friends who were all into extreme sports. Some young ladies, having attended a few days of university and learned a little, thought they were quite impressive. Having little exposure to the trials of society, Chad is gullible and easily influenced. The youth of today truly can’t compare to us back then. Though not particularly skilled, the youngsters tend to pretend to understand everything. It’s truly a sight that gives one a
headache.
Seeing that Chad was no longer complaining. Norman set his phone aside..
After that, he quietly scrutinized the few individuals being interviewed.
To tell the truth, these individuals were already the cream of the crop, yet Norman still found them less than satisfactory. Nowadays, there are hardly any young people willing to endure hardship.
Meanwhile, inside the laboratory, Aaron typed a series of commands into the computer.
After that, the robotic arm conducting the test experiment on the side continued its wild movements, eventually falling to the ground and shattering into two halves.
That marked the three hundredth attempt in the past two days, and not a single one had been successful.
“Could it be that Xavier’s thesis was all conjured out of thin air?” Aaron murmured. Could it have been Xavier who deliberately set me up?
The two of them had been at loggerheads since their university days. He particularly despised Xavier. Despite being a country bumpkin, Xavier carried himself as if he were a nobleman from a prestigious family, always looking down on others.
Moreover, during his university days, he was often overwhelmed. Fortunately, his family circumstances were something that Xavier could never match. His family could provide him with all the resources, allowing him to go further in his career.
Unexpectedly, just as he had joined this tech company, Xavier was also surprisingly recruited.
This company possessed the most advanced scientific research equipment in the entire country.
Upon reflecting on Aurelia’s attitude toward him, he also considered the possibility that it might have been orchestrated by Xavier.
Thinking of how his sister completely disregarded his words and only listened to Xavier, he stormed off to confront Xavier in a fit of anger./
Xavier was intently studying the data on his computer when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his cheek. Aaron’s furious rebuke immediately followed. “Was it you who suggested that Aurelia should be a kept woman? Are you trying to disgrace the Leedon family?”
