We can’t repay the money! I still need to undergo surgery and live a long life, but we have no more savings! We can’t. possibly pay her back! Aurelia’s such a wretch!
Gina clutched Curtis‘ arm, urging him to leave with her.
Curtis‘ eyes were bloodshot, his complexion drained of color. He glanced at Matthew, unwilling to concede. “Are you really going to keep a jerk who ruins others‘ relationships by your side?”
Gordon scoffed, rolling his eyes in disdain. “Oh, are you considering replacing me? Do you even comprehend your own value? What do you possess that can even compare to me?” he retorted.
Does he think anyone is qualified to be Mr. Quigley’s special assistant?
He was a rare replace, having ascended to his position as Matthew’s special assistant through sheer determination and hard work. While many may vie for his role, for Curtis, a man devoid of any notable talent, to even entertain the notion of challenging him was nothing short of insulting.
Curtis‘ face turned even paler as he turned to look at Aurelia.
Her gaze bore into him with an icy intensity, like she was staring at a sworn enemy.
His heart plummeted; it was clear she harbored nothing but contempt for him. She no longer wanted him.
Feeling flustered, Curtis stammered, “Auri, can we replace a quiet place to talk things over calmly?”
“There’s no need. Just stay away from me in the future,” Aurelia replied, her expression devoid of emotion.
Gripping the medical report firmly, she turned and left without another word.
As she passed by Matthew, she paused briefly, then turned toward Gordon. “Thank you,” she said.
“Of course, anytime,” Gordon replied promptly.
Curtis wanted to chase after her, but was held back by his mother. In a hushed tone, she reminded him, “We’ve taken quite a lot of money from her. Don’t tell me you’re prépared to return it.”
Gina scrutinized her son’s expression carefully. “If you can’t bear to let her go, wait until you’ve collected yourself before having a conversation with her.”
“She has always loved me. This must be a misunderstanding,” Curtis muttered through clenched teeth.
Matthew, wearing a frosty expression, shot Curtis a disdainful glance before striding away.
Gordon, passing by Curtis, snorted derisively. Love? Don’t make me laugh! Ms. Shaw will never love a fickle playboy like him after seeing him for who he truly is
As they settled into the car, Gordon struggled to contain his frustration.
“Curtis has no shame,” he remarked bitterly
Matthew casually retrieved a cigarette, rolling down the car window before lighting it. After exhaling: elegant rings of smoke, he spoke calmly. “I don’t want to see Curtis in Jacaster again. See to it.”

Gordon was taken aback by the severity of the directive.

Matthew’s words meant that Curtis would be effectively blacklisted from all the companies and establishments in Jacaster.
Curtis would replace it nearly impossible to survive in Jacaster.
Gordon stumbled upon a revelation: Matthew seemed to care a lot about Aurelia.
He was seeking justice for her.
When Aurelia left the hospital, Chad’s uncle, Jeremy, had already arrived to provide assistance.
Aurelia swiftly drove to pick up Xavier before they headed toward the film set.
However, upon arrival, they found the set cordoned off, barring entry to anyone.
Aurelia attempted to contact Charlie, but received no response to her calls or messages.
Perplexed, she asked the staff, only to discover they did not know Charlie at all.
Ever since Charlie joined the entertainment industry, he frequently assumed the role of a body double for the male lead, occasionally even securing parts with lines. Aurelia couldn’t shake off the suspicion that the staff might be lying. Logically, they should recognize the actors they worked with, shouldn’t they?
“Let’s be patient and wait a little longer,” Xavier advised in a soothing tone.
Aurelia nodded, retrieving her phone to review her WhatsApp conversation with Charlie from an hour ago. She had clearly communicated the pick–up time, and Charlie had assured her of his punctuality.
Charlie had always been reliable in keeping his promises.
Normally, he wouldn’t ignore her phone call.
“Sometimes he gets assigned a part with lines. “This has happened before when I came to visit him. Let’s give it a little more time,” Xavier reassured her, sensing Aurelia’s apprehension.
Aurelia nodded, deciding to take a seat and engage in conversation. “Let’s wait and chat then.”
Xavier seized the opportunity to broach a lingering concern that had been weighing on his mind. “I’ve been meaning to ask, when are you planning to introduce your husband to me?”
The sudden elopement of his typically sensible sister, coupled with her reluctance to divulge her husband’s identity, had left Xavier deeply troubled.
Aurelia knew Xavier was going to ask about that, and her gaze momentarily flickered. “There are certain things I’ve promised him not to divulge. But trust me, I’m not being deceived.”
She then thought of Angela and added, “In fact, I believe my marriage to him is nearing its end. Something happened recently, and we’ll probably get a divorce soon.”
“Flash marriage followed by a flash divorce? Do you even know what you’re doing?” Xavier’s frown deepened.
He’d be foolish if at this noint he still hadn’t noticed the underlying issues in Aurelia’s marriage.

“I know what I’m doing. After the divorce, I doubt I’ll ever fall in love again in this lifetime. I don’t regret my impulsive decision to marry. I’ve grown, and I experienced enough to gain clarity on my choices. Xavier, what I need from you now is your support and your belief in me,” Aurelia asserted.
Since she and Matthew were getting a divorce, she resolved to honor their agreement and keep their brief
Xavier’s brows knitted together tightly. A nagging sense persisted within him, hinting that something must have happened to Aurelia during her time at the Leedon residence.
What had the Leedons done to transform his once carefree sister, nurtured and protected under their wing, into the person she was now, occasionally revealing traces of pain and sorrow in her eyes?
“I’ll keep this between us, but if anything goes awry, you need to inform me right away.” Xavier was still uneasy.
Aurelia’s smile widened. “Absolutely! Tomorrow, I’m officially joining Norman’s team. Can you believe it? I’m one step closer to my dream, and it fills me with joy.”
Xavier affectionately tousled Aurelia’s hair. “We’re all behind you. You’ve always been the bravest one in our family.”
“Congratulations, fearless Auri!” Charlie’s voice chimed in from behind them.
As they turned around, Charlie appeared behind them.
Assuming his role of a stern elder brother, Xavier asked solemnly, “Why didn’t you pick up when we called. earlier?”
“Oh, I didn’t notice. They suddenly pulled me in for a scene, so I couldn’t use my phone,” Charlie explained casually.
Aurelia noticed a wound on Charlie’s face, bruises forming beneath his eyes. “You’re hurt. How did it happen?”
Only now did Xavier notice, concern etching his features. “There are blood spots in your eyes. You should get that checked at the hospital.”
Charlie’s expression faltered momentarily before he brushed it off with a cheerful laugh. “It’s nothing serious. Just a minor mishap on set. A visiting doctor already checked it out. Just part of the job, you know how it goes.
Charlie turned to Aurelia, changing the topic. “Auri, you’re incredible. I did some research on Norman’s team. Their recruitment criteria are pretty strict, but the pay is outstanding. They set the standard for the entire industry.”
