Once I returned to my room, I took a quick shower, shaved my legs and did my makeup. I put a shower cap around my freshly cut hair, keeping my styled curls and locks in place and untouched from the steaming water. Once out and dried, I lathered myself up with lavender lotion and dressed myself in the small black mini dress Amilia had picked out for me. I added some black flats and I was ready to go. I glanced at myself in the mirror. I was still far too skinny but with my hair now having been treated and some new makeup to add to it, I did not look so ghostly anymore. Still skeletal like, but not as frightening. I grabbed my purse from my dresser, tossed my phone inside along with my wallet and headed downstairs. I could hear the commotion before I saw anyone. Someone was shouting. I stop just around the corner from the hallway leading to the front door. “It is not fair! She is not even one of us!” someone was saying. Summer, I realized. My heart fell when I heard who she was speaking to. “I am not interested in what you have to say Summer! There is nothing you can do or say to change anything!” Elijah said. Summer sighed. “She said you are her mate! Is this true?” Summer demanded, her voice leaning more and more towards crying. What the hell was going on?
“That she is! That is why I said there was nothing you can do to change this! And why are you so bothered by this anyway?” he demanded. Summer was quiet for a moment. “What if I can prove she is not who she says she is?” she demanded. I felt rage brew within me. What was she trying to do? Run me out? There was no way I was going anywhere. No. I would stay right here just to make it harder for her even if Elijah didn’t want me. That thought bothered me. I shake it away and listen. “Prove what? What are you talking about?” Elijah demanded. Summer sighed. “I think she is lying to you about being a Tamit! I think she is a bitch rouge and is here to spy for someone else. The hunters or the Vamps, perhaps! It is not too late! You have not marked her right?” she said desperately. Elijah sighed. “That is just crazy! She was the one who was attacked by the Vamps, if you have forgotten!” he snapped at her. “Why? Why is it so crazy? Just make her a pack slut! Have her make pups for the Pack. Little royal pups even if you want but she is not worthy of being your Mate!”Elijah laughed. “Oh, and you are?” he demanded. I took a deep breath, pushing my rage as far down as I could get it. Now was a good time to let her know I was here and I had heard everything. “Summer-” Elijah began but he fell still. There was a muffled sound and a bit of a struggle just as I came around the corner just to see Summer with her hands around Elijah and her lips pressed firmly to his. I could not stop the rage within me. I let a deep, threatening growl rip up my chest and Summer leaned away from Elijah to look at me. I did not even let her speak. I was on her in a flash, crashing with her into a table, the wood collapsing and splintering rune our wight. My hand was around her neck and the other had a fist full of her bleach blond hair. She was looking at me, her eyes wide in terror. She screamed and there were a few shouts throughout the manor and people came rushing in to see what was going on and who needed help.
“See?!” Summer screamed. “See? Elijah! What did I tell you!”What was she talking about? I grunted and released her. Summer scurried away and crawled over to Collin and cowered behind him, looking at me in mock fear. I looked around and saw that everyone, including Elijah and his mother, Sophie, was looking at me as if I was some kind of monster. No. They were all looking at me like I was some kind of Rouge. I stand up quickly. “She is too unpredictable! She needs to go!” Summer screeched. There was a small murmur around the small room. “Silence!” Elijah ordered. “What happened to her face?” Sophie asked. That caught me off guard. I stand up, out of my defensive crouch and turn to face the broken mirror on the wall behind me to see what she was talking about. She was right. There was something that wrong with my face. My eyes had turned black, and I now had deep, dark, almost black shadows beneath my eyes and my canines were clearly visible. I reached up and touched my face, waiting for it to go away. “What?” I breathed, a sob raising in my chest.I looked hideous. I looked like a rouge. I turned to face Elijah and he was still watching me. “Leave us!” he demanded. Everyone left without a word. Summer glared at me as she got to her feet. She stood there for a moment staring at me. “Summer!” Elijah demanded. She ignored him. Wow. Stupid on her end. “Collin!” Elijah called for his Beta. He appeared at his side quickly. “Take Summer to the cells below. She needs time to think about what she has done!” he said. I wanted to smile but I didn’t. I knew she would be back out soon and would come replace me as soon as she could. Summer however was even more outraged then she had been when I attacked her. She swung around to look at Elijah.
“What? For what?” she demanded.
Elijah turned to face her now. “For disobeying and assaulting your King! ” he said, his voice deadly.
Summer tried to wrench herself from Collin’s grasp. “How long?” she demanded. “Until I see fit!” Elijah spit as he wiped his lips one a piece of napkin. “This is insane! Release me at once!” Summer screamed at Collin who just ignored her. Once she was gone, Elijah came toward me and I quickly looked back in the mirror. My face was normal again, so as if nothing had happened. I touched my face, fighting back tears. “Faye?” Elijah said. I jumped a little at his voice. I could not look at him. How could I? He would surely reject me now. I look around before I feel the tears falling down my cheeks. Well, it was nice while it lasted. Looked like I would be living that rogue life after all. “I can not stay here, Elijah!” I told him.I watched his face fall. “What do you mean?” he demanded. I swallowed. We have not mated yet. He has not marked me. I was still a free wolf. I could feel the argument with myself coming on fast. It was an argument about what I wanted and what was right. I looked up at him when he grabbed my hand. “You are mine!” he growled at me, his eyes becoming possessive. “I have held back so far because of what you have been going through. I understand thatyou need time-”“Elijah, I don’t-” I began but he pressed a finger to my lips. “I am giving it to you. I am giving you the time you need. As long as you need,” he assured me.
I wanted to tell him OK. I wanted to tell him that I needed time to come to terms with everything. I watched as his eyes darkened. He was already so close so when my back hit the wall and I had nowhere else to look, I glanced up at him. He had his eyes fixed on my face. With a deliberate sigh he ran his finger over my bottom lip and leaned down, pressing his lips to the top of my head. I held as still as I could. It was all I could do to keep me from throwing myself at him.
“But you are mine!” he told me in a low voice. I could hear the tone of the Alpha in his voice now. I gulped. What had I gotten myself into? “Do you understand?” He grabbed my chin. My heart was about to burst out of my chest. “Elijah-”He gripped my jaw a little tighter this time. “I do not like repeating myself. Do you understand me, Faye?” he growled at me. His other hand came around to my face and he held me between his hands. Never taking his eyes off of me, he leaned down, his breath fanning my face. My heartbeat was fast now, hammering away in my chest. Elijah slowly tilted my head up, and then pressed his lips to the base of my jaw. I let out a long sigh. I needed this. I needed his touch more than I had realized before he had touched me. I felt my hands curl into his sleek blond hair as his tongue made its way across my skin. Elijah’s hand came to rest just over my heart, that was hammering away. He leaned away and smiled, looking down at his hand that was over my chest, a small smile playing on his perfect lips. “I like the reaction I have on you. It is... interesting,” he teased. I scowl at him and slap his hand away. “Stop that!”His eyes went dark again. “I would not test myself too much, Faye. I am quite the monster!” he told me. He raised my hand to his lips and pressed them against his skin. My hand was on fire. My whole body was on fire. I watched as he sniffed the air. I knew what he was smelling. He could smell me. I clenched my legs together. Stupid heighten wolf scenes. In a hunt or tracking it came in handy. Otherwise it was just annoying. Elijah smiled and leaned away from me. “You will be mine, and soon. I am not sure how much longer I can go without having you,” he said and turned away from me. My legs shaking, I waited for him to leave through the door before I sank to the ground, next to the pile of splintered wood of the table I had destroyed. I nodded slowly. Holy hell, I needed to get the fuck out of here. Fast.

The next day Amilia was banging on my door. I had locked it the night before and was not in the mood today to be around anyone. We were supposed to go to the mall yet I had not answered the door when she came to wake me. Amilia had given me some homework to do over the weekend. Political homework. I was learning all about the new court system and about other political parties that Elijah had to deal with on a regular basis, some even being contenders for his throne. I did not like the idea of someone trying to remove Elijah from power. The way Elijah had spoken to me the night before and the way he had looked at me, had haunted me all night. Needless to say, we did not go on our date. I had insisted that I was tired and that whatever had happened to me had drained me and I was no longer in the mood to go out. The look of understanding on Elijah’s face made me feel bad. He had no idea. None whatsoever. About an hour after the first time she had come to my door, Amilia returned and knocked again. This time I got up and threw the door open. Amilia was not alone. She had Lily and Tay in tow. They were all dressed in gym gear, holding gym bags and looked ready to run a marathon. “What is going on?” I demanded. Tay tossed a bag at me. “We start training today,” she said.
I shook my head. “I am not in the mood,” I answer. Amilia shrugged. “Well, you don’t have a choice. Elijah’s orders!” she said. I stared at her. Elijah had ordered me to? Was he even allowed to order his Luna around? I mean, I was not his Luna, and we were not mated yet. The moon goddess and the Great Spirit still had time to replace him his real Luna. I had been asking myself why they would have paired me with Elijah in the first place. I was weak and unattractive. So plain and useless next to him. “Well,” I sighed. “If the King demands it, then so it must be.”I saw Amilia eye me confused. “Are you okay, Faye?” she asked me. I looked up at her as I placed my new gym bag on the bed. “Sure. Where are we training at?” I asked. Before anyone could answer the question was answered by Elijah who was standing with his hands behind his back, looking at us. “You will all be with me in my team today. I am looking to replenish my ranks and from what I have heard, Faye, you have quite a few unique gifts,” he said. I throw Amilia a venomous glare. She sank her head into her hand. “Elijah,” she said. He ignored her. “Be in the throne room in five minutes!” he said and then walked away. Amilia looked up at me. “I’m sorry!” she said. I cross my arms. “What did you tell him?” I demanded.Tay and Lily looked at each other and then left the room without another word. “Nothing!” she said, her eyes big. I watched her. She looked calm. I decided to believe her. She had not lied to me yet and I did not want to lose the only person who I considered a friend. I dressed myself in the mini shorts and sports bra Amilia had brought me and tired my hair up in a ponytail. Looking at myself in the mirror once more, I did my best to ignore my body, the scars and the pasty look of my skin. Perhaps I would be able to lie in the sun after training.
The thought of bathing in the sun after a workout vanished when I saw the training grounds. We had to take a jeep away from the main building and deep into the woods in order to get there. Once I saw the training grounds I knew I was done for. There were climbing walls, ropes, wooden dummy along with a full blown military training course. I gulped and looked at Amilia who was already stretching. Tay and Lily were already gone. “Amilia!” I hissed at her. She turned to look at me. “Yes?”I glared at her. “We could have just gone to the gym!” I told her.“Now, Faye, what kind of fun would that have been?” Elijah asked and I turned to face him. He was standing there in a pair of cut off shorts and running shoes. No shirt. His chest on full display, perfectly made as if carved by angels, his arms, flexing with every movement he made. Why was this turning me on so much? When my eyes make their way back to his face, he is smirking at me. “I will be training you myself today, Faye,” he told me. I sighed. Why was I not surprised? I was getting tired of his hot and cold demeanor. Elijah turned to look at Amilia who was staring at him closely, as if she were speaking to him. Mind Link, I thought. I wondered when that would kick in for me. I had been here just three weeks and I was still getting nothing. Well, that was not true. I was an unmated female wolf. I was getting plenty of looks, flirts and I had been asked out by four pack members, one of them had been a girl. That had caught me so off guard at first that I had asked her again what she had said. The girl had just blushed, mumbled something and ran off. As for the others, Collin had spread the word after he had caught a male wolf harassing me. He had not realized that I was Elijah’s mate. I sighed. Heat was coming in about a week. Elijah was not taking it easy on me at all. I sighed. Why was he so cold? One moment he was loving and caring, the next he was being demanding as if he had all the right in the world. Well, I suppose he did, being King and all, yet it seemed more than that. It was a confusing thing to see. I had asked Amilia why he was so hot and cold all the time and she had just shrugged. She had told me that he was under a lot of stress and he was still mourning the death of his father. It had only been a year. Elijah had been placed on the throne prematurely and still had doubts about his rule. Knowing that now, I would have thought when he had realized I was his mate, he would have been happy and felt better about his rule. Somehow I just did not see how a future with him was going to happen. In order to save his rule from other contenders in the region he would have to keep his House on the throne. I smiled to myself. I could see us, years from now, with children of our own, running around these grounds in the springtime. Yet that was one vision I had to keep to myself. I would never see that day. I had to leave this place. And it was sooner then I would have thought. Elijah was going away on a trip to speak with another Pack. Sedna, I think is what Amilia had told me. Suddenly Elijah was before me, snapping his fingers by my face. “Faye!?”I look up at him quickly. “Yes, sorry,” I said quickly and felt myself blush. Why did he have to be so hot? Elijah smiled and then reached down to take my hand. “We have to get you healthy again!” he reminded me and pulled me along. I bit my lip and wondered what hell I had gotten myself into.
