The Inauguration -
Chapter 8
The Ethereal Growlers had arrived and she was still confused regarding what the Councilman had said. A werewolf monarch.
It wasn’t unheard of. There was a time were werewolves were ruled by royals. Those were the times of struggle for all, in terms of the supernatural and the norms.
Alpha King Hendrix was the last ruler as far as Solani could remember. He had two children, Andrew and Angus. A wife, Luna Queen Selone, had died during birth.
And just like all the others, Angus was envious of his big brother Andrew, after all, Andrew was going to become king. And like all the betrayal stories, Angus ended up betraying his brother.
He had sided with hunters, gathered up a pack of rouges and went up against everything he had been taught. He went against his family, his life and his pack.
It was what the councilman would call an iconic moment in the history books. Not only did this affect the supernaturals but it also affected humans.
Looking at the final moments when it was just Angus and Andrew, Solani can remember how her father had talked about this moment every time, how he always told them to pay attention to the details in history.
“Because if you miss one thing then everything else is destroyed”, her father’s words echoed.
And that’s what happened to the werewolf monarch. Andrew had underestimated Angus, and the werewolf community paid the price for it. In his final moments, Angus had revealed the secret to the humans.
This caused a war that lasted for almost 3 years. It was only when the two brothers faced each other and when Andrew had finally conquered his brother that everything had stopped. After some time Andrew had disappeared and the kingdom was left to ruins.
To help preserve the werewolf community, the werewolf council had taken over. Managing to erase the history from the human minds made the war become a fictional story but for the werewolf, it was anything but.
There are thousands of books filled with the story of the Elmiurilia War, all with different endings and ways of how the events transpired but all had the same warning to never let history repeat itself.
It’s no wonder that Solani now replaces herself conflicted as she sits in her alpha’s office across from him as he stays silent as if processing what had just happened.
They had welcomed the Growlers into their pack and a meeting had followed their arrival. They were then introduced to the newly mated couple, Solani could barely remember their names, although they had greeted her with such sincerity even after they had heard her name, she was still puzzled with what came after.
“they would be royals with no royal blood,” Lugar exhaled,” I don’t mean to be disrespectful but the decision of royalty is that of the goddess”
“We understand the measures we are taking but this is the right decision, the goddess has blessed this boy”, one of the Councilman said.
“Blessed how?”, she inquired looking back at the mated male himself.
“Well the goddess has chosen a white wolf for him and we all know how rare they are-
“Yes, but what does that have to do with them being crowned,” Lugar cut the Councilman speech, “white wolves are rare but they do not hold any power”.
“Lugar if you would just listen and let the councilman finish,” Luna Therealt sighed and Lugar simple ran her eyes over hers and looked away nodding to the Councilman Arald to continue.
“There’s a prophecy,” Solani watches as Lugar leans back, his interest packed by a simple sentence,” it entails that a male from the strongest pack shall be mated to a she-wolf of a rare kind and the couple shall watch over their kind replacing what has been damaged by the old”.
Now…
She remembers the silence that followed, she remembers the excitement hidden behind the Councilman’s eyes as he spoke of the said prophecy. She remembers mostly how through the whole meeting the soon to be crowned king had said nothing at all and that had just baffled her.
She had watched how he had solemnly focused his attention on his mate, knowing very well the ways newly mated couples acted around each other, she still expected the future king to at least try and convince Lugar and herself that he was fit to rule. “Stop doing that,” a voice shook her from her thoughts and she met Lugar’s blue eyes.
“Sorry?”, she asked shaking her head.
“Stop biting your nails,” he told her,” your nervous for nothing”.
“Lugar, they want to rule,” she sighed her fingers rubbing her temple,” they want to merge the pack and leave you as a General,” she growls as she hears the words that leave her mouth.
“You don’t know that,” he argues.
“The boy already has a Beta, and a Gamma who are training to be royals and we both know that his parents will be his advisers,” she begins to explain, “where do you think that leaves you once they take the pack?”.
“What can we do?”, he asks, “you heard the prophecy”. “What I heard were words merely spoken, do you believe that this is true?”
“It doesn’t matter what he believes nor what you believe,” she turns and watches as Luna Therealt and her mate walk into the room.
Lugar grows and Solani immediately follows her after. The Therealt’s halt in their movements as they glare at the pair. “I would advise you to remember on whose land you’re on,” Lugar gritted, “respect is something I regard dearly”. “And yet you let your Beta walk all over you,” Solani growls at the look that’s thrown at her.
“What did I just say about respect?”, Lugar hums and she can’t help but feel pride swell knowing that he was defending her.
Solani watches as Alpha Therealt, her wolf grunting at the fact that Solani wouldn’t even bother remembering his name or his mates, was to make a move to oppose but at the touch of his mate, he seems to calm down and stand behind her.
Solani found this to be quite peculiar but at the same time out of the ordinary.
“Our apologies Alpha Lugar,” Solani found her voice to be sweet, too sweet if she had to describe perfectly,” we just wanted to clear any confusions, you and your….Beta might have,” she didn’t miss the look that was thrown at her.
Lugar growls having seen the look too, but Luna Therealt simply ignores the warning and continues,” The prophecy will come true and I would advise that by the time that happens we’re all close friends”.
“Tread lightly Elena,” she hears Lugar sneer.
“I wouldn’t dream of it Lugar,” she smiles and with a final look leaves, her mate following behind her like a puppy being pulled by a leash.
Peculiar, she thought to herself.
