Madeline's jaw dropped in disbelief, “Mom, you've got to be kidding me. Horatio Lawson? With hisbeanstalk figure, I bet he doesn’t even weigh more than I do. Are you sure his mom isn't just tryingto secure a future for him because she’s worried he won't last long? Dad never mentioned settingme up with someone like him. Are you sure you're not up to something fishy? You do rememberyou're my biological mom, right?”

Imogen frowned immediately, “What's that supposed to mean? Of course, I'm your mom. Whywould I randomly set you up with someone? I care about your marriage more than anything. Agood marriage would benefit me as well!

Sure, the Lawson family might not be in the best health; but aside from the Harris family, they're themost well-off. Isn't it better if he doesn’t last long? Then you can just inherit their fortune withouthaving to take care of a husband and just enjoy the good life!”

Madeline mumbled in reluctance, “What kind of mom wishes for her daughter's future husband todie early?

No matter how rich or well-off the Lawson family is, I refuse to marry him, even if it means marryinga pauper over a sick man!”

Imogen slapped her lightly, annoyed, “What are you saying? Don't get too proud and look down onothers.

Look at yourself, who are you? I even had to push you to change that last name. The Lawsonfamily’s matriarch bringing her son over means you caught her eye, you know? Next time you meet,you better act sweet and polite. Even if you don't like that Horatio, you can’t show it!"

"Got it, Mom. I'm not dumb. How could I possibly embarrass him in front of his mother? Madelinehugged Imogen’s arm and shook it, “Anyway, as long as there's this little brother in your belly,there's no way his sister's going to have a rough life, right?”

Imogen chuckled and patted her belly, “Of course, you're his biological sister. Who else would hetake care of if not you? I bet the Tanner family’s fortune, at least half of it, will end up with yourbrother. He'll have more than enough to take care of you.”

The mother and daughter were already counting on Francis's future fortune, unaware that he wasthinking about how to ask the Harris family for more money.

The Tanner family was doing well financially, and the Tanner Group was back on its feet. Everythingwas much better than before.

But Francis, motivated by the disparity in wealth between them and the Harris family, felt justified inasking for more, despite not needing it.

Nolan wasn't short of money; what wrong with asking for just a bit more?

This mindset had Francis constantly looking for excuses to contact Nolan.

Regina had no idea how much her dad had called Nolan. But Nolan didn’t spare him muchattention. Sometimes he'd answer the calls, sometimes he'd hear from Lucy, and

sometimes he'd simply ignore him, depending on his mood.

Francis, with a guiltily conscience, didn't dare to complain to his daughter how much Nolan didn’trespect him as the father-in-law.

Regina, mostly occupied with the newspaper, her home, and the Harris family, noticed Madeline'sstrange looks and occasional provocations. But such petty games no longer bothered Regina.

"Oh, aren't you married already? Why do you keep coming back here? Don't tell me you and Nolanare living separately.”
