Chapter 7 Establishing the Foleys’ Prestige

Jacob was secretly gleeful. “Understood.”

He knew that Rebecca was just putting on a front. He was the old butler of the Foley Family, and even Levi never talked to him like that.

Just as expected, with Phoebe entering the fray, Rebecca had no choice but to hold her tongue. Now, she looked like she was so scared that she couldn’t even speak a word.

Jacob stepped forward and deliberately spoke loudly. “Come on.”

Rebecca glanced at Phoebe with her clear eyes, then asked nonchalantly, “Why should I listen to you?”

Phoebe stared at Rebecca in slight shock.

“I am the third young lady in this house. What right do you have to disobey me? Also, with an outfit like that, you might startle Levi if you meet him again. He’s already ill enough as he is. Can you take responsibility for that?”

With that, she turned around and shouted, “Mr. Tanner, get two servants to take her away!”

Jacob was already on cloud nine. Phoebe was the little tyrant of the Foley Family, so no matter how much Rebecca resisted, she wouldn’t be a match for Phoebe.

However, he pretended to be troubled as he said to Phoebe, “Miss Phoebe, if Mr. Levi asks about this—”

“Why are you so scared? I’ll take responsibility if any accidents occur. Also, Levi loves me the most. He wouldn’t reprimand me for the sake of an outsider. Hurry up.”

Those were the words Jacob had been waiting for, and he immediately asked two servants to step forward. Rebecca frowned lightly, and an impatient look flashed across her eyes.

“I’m warning you, you’d better not touch me.”

For some reason, the two servants obediently stayed rooted on the spot.

Phoebe felt insulted by this. How could the servants be intimidated by a woman like Rebecca? She rolled up her sleeves and walked forward to push the servants away.

“Useless things. I’ll do it myself!”

Phoebe had just grabbed Rebecca’s arm and was about to drag the latter outside when Rebecca flipped her arm, backhandedly grabbing Phoebe’s wrist instead. Then, Rebecca applied some pressure to it.

“Ouch! It hurts! You ugly woman, let go of me!”

Rebecca’s gaze was fearless. “I warned you not to touch me, didn’t I?”

She didn’t want to make enemies out of any member of the Foley Family. She just wanted to finish her job and leave, but if someone bullied her on purpose, she wouldn’t just sit down and take it.

The bone-piercing pain made Phoebe want to cry.

“If you don’t let go right now, Levi won’t let you off the hook.”

“I know you don’t like me, but I’m still your sister-in-law. I don’t mind if you don’t treat me like one, but you mustn’t attack me. This is basic courtesy.”

Rebecca gripped Phoebe’s hand tightly as she stood where she was. Her aura was so powerful that the servants dared not step forward.

Phoebe’s eyes turned red in anger, and she became even more ruthless with her words.

“So what? You married into the family as a substitute, so do you think you’re the young mistress now? Who do you think you are? Even Levi doesn’t discipline me, so how dare you?!”

“I don’t think of myself as some young mistress, but I deserve some basic respect.”

Realizing that Rebecca had no intention of letting go, Phoebe could only turn to look at Jacob and the two servants, who were frozen on the spot.

“Are you blind? Hurry and get this crazy woman off me!”

She was in extreme pain.

Jacob returned to his senses. Just when the servants were about to separate the two, a stern and authoritative voice sounded from upstairs.

“What’s going on?”

When Phoebe saw Maurice, she behaved like she had just seen her savior.

“Grandpa, this woman is attacking me! Tell her to let go!”

Rebecca let go, and Phoebe hastily rubbed her reddened wrist. She was close to tears, for no one in the Foley Family ever dared to treat her like this.

Phoebe jogged up to Maurice and sobbed.

“Grandpa, you have to bring me justice.”

“What’s going on?”

Jacob stepped forward. “Mr. Foley, Miss Phoebe simply wanted to help Miss Rebecca change her clothes, but she unexpectedly—”

“That’s right! I just feared that she would ruin the Foleys’ reputation if she continued wearing that outfit, but she didn’t appreciate the kind gesture and even attacked me!”

“Miss Phoebe, didn’t you order these two servants to drag me away?” Even with Maurice around, Rebecca still acted calmly.

“Nonsense, I—”

“Phoebe, be nice. She’s your sister-in-law. Stop being a disgrace to our family and hurry back to your room!”

After all, Maurice had arranged this marriage with the old master of the Chambers Family, so the Foleys shouldn’t bully Rebecca.

Phoebe never thought that Maurice would say that. He was taking the ugly woman’s side!
