Chapter 364 I'm Afraid You've Made a Huge Mistake

"Come over here, 0345. You have a phone call."

Back in the prison, when Raymond, who was spacing out in his cell, heard the prison officer calling out to him, he rose to his feet and stepped out of the place.

Presently, he was in a dilemma, not knowing what choice he should make.

Apparently, Crispin, who came from a poor background, was no match for Elias. Moreover, if Raymond told the truth, Elias might help him get his wife's illness treated. After all, Elias was extremely powerful, and the private hospital run by the Winters Family was one of the best in the country.

Raymond was still hesitant as to whether he should betray Crispin, for he desperately wanted to cure his wife, and time was running out for her.

When he arrived, he hastily picked up the phone and heard Crispin bellowing, "Why did you disobey my order? Why did you contact Elias? You betrayed me!"

"I didn't betray you! I didn't tell him anything!" Raymond replied anxiously while clenching the phone.

However, Crispin refuted, "You're lying! When I went to the hospital to transfer another hospital, I was targeted by Elias' bodyguard. Also, your wife is dead. When I arrived wife to

at the hospital, she had already stopped breathing. You decided to trust Elias instead of me. Do you think a wealthy man like him would sympathize with your situation? He even killed your wife to achieve his goal. He'll definitely go looking for you again. Let me make it clear- your wife had already passed away by the time I arrived at the hospital, and Elias' bodyguard was just outside the ward!"

Once he said his piece, he hung up the call.

Raymond was rooted to the spot, unable to make heads or tails of the situation. When he came to his senses, he growled, "You're spouting nonsense! What happened to my wife? What happened to her?!" He was plunged into a state of despair. He had been doing everything to ensure that his wife would stay alive, but things ended up going against his wishes.

Just then, another prison officer came over with a solemn expression. "Raymond, we just received a call from the hospital. They informed us that your wife passed away yesterday. She experienced heart failure and her heart has stopped beating."

Raymond had always been a law-abiding citizen, but he became hysterical at this moment. He grabbed the prison officer's clothes and snarled, "What did you say?! I have to see my wife

now! I have to see her now!"

The other prison officer quickly subdued him and mercilessly struck him with a taser, causing him to collapse to the floor, but his tears still streamed down his face uncontrollably.

It was a piece of bad news that was even worse than death for him. After all, he had been doing all he could to let his wife stay alive.

In the morning, Amanda received a call when she was still sound asleep. When she heard what the other party said, she became fully awake in an instant and sat straight up on the bed. What?! She's dead? How did that happen? What's the cause of her death?"

"We're still looking into the matter. It's said that she suffered from cardiac arrest. I'm heading to the hospital right now."

"Okay, I'll be going to the hospital as well."

Amanda lifted the quilt and entered the bathroom. After a very quick wash. up, she changed and went to the hospital.

When everyone arrived at the hospital at 10.00AM, they only saw the woman's corpse remorseful Yacob.

Elias and Amanda learned that Raymond's wife had been declared dead, and her corpse was ready to be transferred to the mortuary.

"What happened?"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Winters. It's all my fault. I was taking a nap yesterday when a doctor came over and said he was going to take the patient's blood pressure measurements. However, not long after he left, Raymond's wife suffered from cardiac arrest and soon passed away despite the doctors' attempt to save her."

Yacob wished he could turn back the clock. He had always been a meticulous person, but he was too exhausted the day before.

As Amanda looked at the corpse that was covered with a white cloth, she furrowed her brows. "It's over. Raymond will never tell us the truth now. The woman he loves is gone, so he no longer has the desire to get out of jail."

"You're so useless!" Elias growled at Yacob before turning around to leave.

Yacob hung his head low in silence, knowing that he was in the wrong. He had disappointed

Elias.

In Elias' eyes, Yacob would never make such a mistake. To make matters worse, the mistake was so grave as the murderer managed to kill Raymond's wife on his watch.

Amanda glanced at Yacob and patted his shoulder. "Stop blaming yourself. There's no point wallowing in self-pity. It's not your fault that the culprit is too ruthless. Still, there is no doubt. that he's the person who has made Raymond a scapegoat."

With that, she turned around and left as well.

Yacob balled

up his fists, determined to get to the person that made Raymond take the fall.

When Elias entered the car and was ready to head to the prison, Amanda got into the passenger's seat. As she buckled up, she said, "Where are you going? Take me with you."

"It's fine. I can go there on my own."

"You're not going anywhere without me. I can tell you're furious right now, and you need me to help calm you down," Amanda intoned seriously. She was worried that Elias was going to cause a scene, especially considering his temperament.

The man took a long look at her before driving the car away from the hospital.

On the way to their destination, Elias remained silent all along. Amanda realized that they were heading to the prison. It seems that he's going to face Raymond directly.

She wanted to say something as she glanced at his side profile. Yet, as she parted her lips, she found that she couldn't bring herself to utter a word. So, she looked away and decided to keep quiet.

When they arrived at the prison, the warden told them that Raymond was already aware of his wife's death as the hospital had informed them about it. Raymond had gone mad, so they decided to put him in solitary confinement.

Then, the warden took the two of them to the confinement cell.

When the door was opened with a creak, they saw Raymond facing the wall while seated. Hist face was pale, his gaze was hollow, and his mind seemed to be somewhere else. It was as if he had lost his soul. "Raymond?" Amanda called out to him, but he didn't respond to her.

Elias walked up to him, and when he saw how listless the man looked, he said, "That person killed your wife. Are you still going to take the fall for him?"

"Aren't you the one who killed my wife?" Raymond sneered as a look of disdain appeared on

his face.

Elias fell silent and furrowed his brows.

Raymond went on to say, "You're a wealthy man, so poor people like us are as insignificant as ants in your eyes. You killed my wife just to make me expose that person." Then, he looked Elias in the eye and continued, "I'm afraid you've made a huge mistake, Mr. Winters. I'll never tell you anything."

The woman he loved had left for the other world, so no one could threaten him now. Instead, he was going to seek out his end just to keep his wife company.

"What makes you think I killed your wife? Do you have any evidence?" Elias questioned.

Nonetheless, Raymond only scoffed and remained silent, ignoring the two of them altogether.

"Raymond, you have to understand that we're just trying to get to the truth, so why would we kill your wife? Elias even sent a bodyguard to protect her. You-"

Before Amanda could finish her words, Raymond refuted hotly, "Say whatever you want, but it's the truth that my wife was killed under his 'protection." Although his words were harsh, it was also the truth, and she had no idea what to say to that.
