Evelyn POV

“How about this one Mummy?” Elspeth passes me a blackberry from a blackberry bush to see if it is ripe enough for her to eat.

“Try it, if it’s yummy then yes.” We were in one of the fields that nears the woodlands by one of our borders.

“Is it?” I ask her as she turns to me, her mouth covered in dark purple fruit juice, causing me to laugh out loud.

I used to come here with my parents. There’ll be so much fruit left over that I’ll be able to bake a pie for dessert tonight.

“Evelyn!” Noah calls my name from behind as he walks towards us.

“Everything okay?”

“Yes fine. Donnie has said an alpha has arrived to talk about joining the alliance…”

“Oh?”

“Yes, but he has asked that his identity reminds anonymous, for now.” Noah joins Elspeth in helping her to reach the blackberries that were out of our reach.

“Is he still here?”

“Yes, Donnie is with him in the courtyard apparently. Go, we will finish here.”

“Right, thanks.”

I walk back to the alpha house, trying to check my clothing for any juice stains. It wouldn’t look good to be covered in blackberry juice when meeting an alpha for the first time. First impression always counted when meeting a fellow alpha.

I cut through the field at the back of the alpha house, not keen to keep the alpha waiting when I can already hear Rex talking in the distance.

As I walk around the side of the house my heart stops when his laughter surrounds the courtyard.

I watch as he picks Rex up to sit on the front bonnet of his red sport’s car, just as he was.

I start to panic at his closeness to my son, mine….he was mine.

He looked a lot different since I last saw him four years ago. His hair was now cut, not as long as before but still slightly long on top.

He stops for a moment, looking around and even sniffs the air but seems to shake his head as if talking to his wolf. I’m too far away for him to smell my scent, I hope.

I clench my hands into fists from the anger rising within me. How dare he be here! How dare he walk back in after what he did. How dare he laugh outside the area where his orders destroyed my life. My wolf tries to calm me, to inform me that he wouldn’t hurt what is his, but he doesn’t know

this.

“Donnie?” I roar through the mind-link.

“Alpha?” Donnie’s response is that of being startled by my unusual aggressive tone

“That is the Red Stone Alpha King, get him off the grounds NOW!” I roar at him through the pack bond as I open it up to my other warriors.

Donnie stands to attention immediately. Pulling Rex off the car’s bonnet and shielding him behind

his back.

At first Reuben stills from the change in hospitality until four other warriors join Donnie and form a single line, ensuring Rex is placed protectively at the back.

Reuben seems to take the hint that he is no longer welcome and walks to the front of his car. He seems to say something to Donnie who nods his head, before watching the red car speed off towards the pack exit.

“Make sure he exits the grounds.” I command to Donnie through the mind-link.

“Yes Alpha. Apologies Alpha, I didn’t realise who he was.”

“Well now you know what the enemy looks like.”

I walk around the side of the house where the warriors have remained with Rex until I arrived.

“Mum, you just missed another alpha!” He excitedly chimes at me.

“Did I?”

“Yes, but Donnie said he had to go.” He frowns as I place my hand on his shoulder.

“We’ve picked lots of blackberries did you want to help me bake a pie?”

“Nah that’s okay, I might go play in my bedroom.”

“That’s fine Rex but I’ll need to speak to you later.” I plant a kiss on top of his head as he walks back into the alpha house ahead of me.

“Noah, I need an emergency meeting. The Alpha was Reuben.” I inform him of our visitor through the mind-link.

“I don’t understand how he was able to get on site?” Noah is fuming, which for him is saying a lot. He was known as the calm, cool and collected beta, not one to get angry at all. But my men are seeing his angry side right now.

“I’m sorry beta, he said he was an alpha wanting to discuss the alliance. He must have reined his aura in.” Donnie apologies for putting us in danger.

“Yes, that’s sounds like him.” I scoff from my usual place around the round table.

“He was very gentle with Rex, he gave no cause for concern.” Donnie, I could tell was beating himself up about this. He was there the day my parent’s died, he too saw the sword and the emblem.

“Lucky he didn’t seem to get a lot of information.” Noah seems to start calming down.

“What did he and Rex talk about?” I ask to Donnie, trying to not make it look like I was too

concerned.

“Not a lot, just Rex talking about him being the next Alpha.”

Shit! So he now knows Rex is the future alpha of the Silver Moon pack. Which means if I break my cover, he might start to question Rex’s and Elspeth’s parentage, just as Candice did.

It is now bedtime for the kids and I was walking along the hallway towards their shared bedroom.

I enter their room to replace their night light lamp on that shines planets and stars onto the dark ceiling, and plays a gentle lullaby.

They both have a small double, every now and again they miss each other in the night and I was replaceing them both asleep in a single bed.

Twins together in my tummy, still wanting that closeness even now. More so Elspeth. She often had nightmares and would crawl into Rex’s bed in the night.

“Shh Mum, Elspeth is asleep.” Rex places his finger to his lips to keep my quiet.

“What about you?” I smirk as he sat flicking through a nursery book.

“She asked me to wait until she was asleep, just in case there were monsters.” My heart swells at his cute brotherly love for his sister. First to tease her, yet won’t have her being teased by anyone else.

I look to my darling daughter. She was covered in purple stains around her mouth and on her fingers, even the shower didn’t remove the colour. She’ll need a good soak in the bath in the morning.

“I think you’ll be fine…come on, bed time.” I encourage him as I place his book on the bedside table.

“Rex… the alpha from today, what did you tell him?” I try to make it sound like I didn’t really care, I didn’t want him to worry that he had done something wrong.

“Just that I was the next Alpha. I liked him, is he going to join us?” He looks expectantly at me as he lays down on his pillow.

“I’m not sure but you must be careful what you say to strangers….”

“He wasn’t a stranger.” He cuts me off.

“Oh no?”

“No, my wolf said we could trust him. That he would help keep us safe,”
