The Little Fairy -
Chapter 24
Our room was just as extravagant. It boasted a tall ceiling, at least 20 feet tall with a second story. There was one room downstairs which Don said he would take. Sarah and I went upstairs, it boasted a large California King sized bed that sat menacingly centered against the furthest wall. The bathroom was off to the left with a walk-in glass shower with a waterfall showerhead. The bathroom also boasted a large soaker tub that was big enough for 3 people to fit in easily.
"Is this really necessary? This all feels a little much." I rubbed my arm, standing awkwardly in the doorway.
"I know it seems like a lot, but I promise, you'll love having this after the rally." Sarah plopped herself on the bed, sinking at least a few inches into it.
"I would have been happy with one of their regular rooms." I set my luggage down on the extra-wide dresser on the opposite wall of the bed.
"I know, but I wanted to splurge a little bit. I've never had anything like this before." She beamed, leaning herself up on her elbows.
I nodded, tweaking my lips while I studied the room some more. I spotted a sliding door that led out to a large balcony. You could see the entirety of Washington DC from this view. The wind blew gently against me, making me shiver. The cold Atlantic air reminded me it was still winter. I went inside to replace Sarah had already gotten in the shower.
I headed back downstairs to give Sarah some privacy. Don was already in the kitchen trying to replace something to eat. "You know they charge you for eating the food they provide? Absolutely ridiculous." Don huffed, slamming the fridge door closed. "And of course, it's extremely overpriced. I'm just going to order out until I can go to the grocery store in a little while." He went and sat on the couch, twiddling with his phone.
"Can you get me a cheeseburger? It sounds really good right now." I grabbed a glass from the cabinet and got some tap water from the sink.
I wanted to go explore, but Sarah and Don said we shouldn't just in case someone recognized us.
"But we have disguises, why would someone recognize us if we were our disguises, you're really good at makeup so we won't even have to look like ourselves!" I followed Sarah around our room as she stirred her coffee impatiently.
"I guess it could work, but it'll take a long time for me to do our makeup for us to look completely different." She sighed, gently plopping herself on the couch.
"We don't have to look completely different, just enough that people wouldn't pick us out in a crowd." I groaned, sitting next to her.
I stared into her mug, contemplating deeply. "Fine, but only for an hour or two." She tried to hide her excitement by biting her lip.
"Yes! okay I want to go pick out an outfit." I ran upstairs to look through the things that Sarah had brought with us.
We walked along Washington D.C.'s greatest monuments, took pictures, and enjoyed the calm before tomorrow's events. People were still buzzing about the rally, some gossiping about their lives and what they would do when they got home, but most were talking about what they could do, wondering what I was going to talk about tomorrow.
"What are we going to do when we get home?" I sat on a bench that looked over at the Washington monument.
"Relax. That's what I'm going to do. Traveling has taken a lot out of me." Sarah stretched out and took a sip of her cola when she settled.
"Do you think my parents will be back when we get there? I haven't heard anything from them since they left." I looked down at the small American flag in my hand, it looked so foreign to me. I still don't understand dividing lands between people.
"I'm not sure. We don't even know where they went or how far they went. They weren't there when we got back the last time, so it's a good possibility that they'll be home by now."
I nodded and looked out at the looming pillar that stood illuminated even though it was the middle of the day, and flags flying proudly around it. I decided it was time to head back to the hotel. There were too many people surrounding me and it made me claustrophobic.
Don was watching tv and talking to Rich when we came back, they were talking about Coon and the farm. Don criticized Rich for the way pulled up his carrots.
I went upstairs to go over the PowerPoint and other details about the speech and all that we had accomplished over the past couple of months. I still hated having to use my power to influence people to care, but if it meant that we were stopping the destruction that humans had started, it was all worth it.
