Chapter 18

‘Just listen to those harsh words. Fortunately, I already regarded Leonard as an a*shole.’

Lisa’s gaze swept across each member of the Parker family. She could see the disgust in their eyes. She knew they would crush her without mercy, like squashing an ant. Nonetheless, she would never back down.

“Yes, I love money. I admit it. Who in this world doesn’t? If you don’t love money, you’ve achieved financial freedom. Why are you still working so hard, then?” Lisa’s unflinching eyes collided with Leonard’s. “As for my so-called greed for money, I dare ask, what money have I taken from your family?”

Leonard did not speak, but Michelle replied, “You married into our family for two million dollars! How is that not greedy for money?”

Lisa sneered. “Everyone knows Leonard got in a car accident, and the doctor told you to prepare for a funeral. I received the money as a dowry to marry him and save his life. Excuse me, but who would marry someone on the verge of death if it weren’t for the money?”

She addressed Leonard, “Your family paid for it, so we understand that no one would marry you without a high price. Now that you’re no longer on your deathbed, you’re insinuating my family is greedy for money? Maybe your family shouldn’t have spent it in the first place.”

“Lisa, you’re taking this too far.” David heard the sarcasm in her words. He was frustrated that a young lady humiliated him.

“Am I wrong? Leonard claimed I was greedy for money.” Lisa looked at Leonard coldly and said, “Besides the dowry, have I ever spent a penny or taken anything from you after we married?”

Leonard’s thin lips twitched. However, he realized he could not respond when he tried to speak. This realization filled him with anger and annoyance. Lisa would have died a thousand times over if looks could kill.

Since he was silent, Lisa continued, “In that case, why do you keep calling me a thief? It seems you’re the one obsessed with money. The doctor told you to rest for two weeks, but what did you do instead?

“You returned to work immediately after being discharged. No one can match your love for money. It’s like your whole life

revolves around it.”

Leonard glared daggers at her, his chest rising and falling with anger while the police remained silent.

They realized Lisa would make a formidable lawyer with her sharp tongue. However, the Parker family could not tolerate her.

“Lisa, enough of your unreasonable behavior!” Leonard argued impatiently, “Hand over the necklace, and we’ll consider letting you go. However, you’ll pay the price in prison if we replace it!”

“I don’t want to argue with you anymore. Go ahead and search for it.” Lisa said to the police calmly, “Since they accused me of being a thief and I haven’t left this house, the police should be able to replace it easily. Check for fingerprints, and you’ll discover the real culprit.”

“No, you’re not allowed to search the house,” Melissa was the first to object, “Our house is full of valuable treasures. We can’t just allow a search.”

Lisa grew annoyed. “What’s the matter? You call me a thief, yet you’re unwilling to let the police search the house? You’re accusing me without any evidence! Is it possible to be convicted based solely on words?”

“Why, you little-” Melissa was outraged.

Leonard’s gaze turned frigid. “Lisa, show some respect to my mother.”

“I’ll only respect those who earn it. Unfortunately, none of your family members have shown me any.” Lisa confidently stared back at him without flinching. She dared to meet his gaze.

Leonard burned with anger.

‘People typically treat me with respect at the mere sight of me. Even my parents fear me at times. However, this woman…’
