The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa ) -
Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Lisa mopped the water and removed the blanket from the bed. She placed it on the floor and thought, ‘I didn’t want to sleep on the bed anyway.’
Leonard was driving his Bugatti when he called Lucas. “Hey, where are you? Let’s grab a drink.”
“Hey, am I hearing things? Are you asking me out for a drink? You’re always so calm and composed,” Lucas teased, “Who pi ssed you off?”
“Quit it!” Leonard snapped, clearly in a bad mood.
“All right, Benedict, Quince, and I are at Moonlight Coffee Shop. I’ll send you the address. Hurry up and join us,” Lucas replied.
Leonard frowned, slightly puzzled. “Why are you guys going to a coffee shop instead of a bar? Is something wrong?”
“It looks like something’s wrong with you,” Lucas replied with a hint of annoyance, “Ben has a crush on the shop owner. He said she comes here every Wednesday, so we’re here with him.”
“All right, I’ll head over,” Leonard said, ending the call and navigating there. After about thirty minutes, he arrived at Moonlight Coffee Shop.
The coffee shop had a charming exterior adorned with flowers. Its interior had a tasteful Italian style as it sat nearby the city center. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air.
Leonard opened the heavy doors and walked in, instantly feeling calm as the soothing piano music filled the space.
“Leonard, over here!” Quince waved at him from a nearby table, and Leonard strode over.
It was hard to imagine Queenston’s three most prominent sons drinking coffee at that hour, with a table full of snacks.
“Leonard, what brings you here tonight?” Quince’s curiosity was unavoidable. “My mom told me the police arrived at your house this afternoon. Did something happen at home that made you so upset?”
Leonard looked bothered as he was about to pull out a chair and sit down. He had almost forgotten that he lived in a wealthy neighborhood with notable people.
‘Unfortunately, these jerks also live in the vicinity.’
Benedict nodded. “Leonard, I heard about that from my family. Why did the police come to your house?”
Lucas looked equally curious.
“That’s a family matter,” Leonard replied, giving them a warning look after sitting down.
“Leonard, we’re just concerned about you,” Quince said, sounding disappointed. However, he knew about Leonard’s temperament and did not press further.
“If you don’t want to share, that’s fine. Everyone has secrets,” Lucas said, flashing a gentle smile. Then he gestured to the piano and said, “Look over there. She’s the coffee shop owner Benedict’s been trying to woo.”
Leonard casually glanced in that direction. He saw a woman in a floral dress playing the piano in the atmospheric light. Her long black hair flowed down her back, making her movements more graceful and lively.
Her slender, white fingers danced on the black and white keys, making her look even more beautiful.
‘If only…’
“Not bad,” Leonard lazily furrowed his brow after sharing his comment. “Is it typical for the owner to be playing the piano? There must be something odd about that.”
Leonard had seen many beautiful women in his life. No matter what company he kept, there was never a shortage of women hoping to marry into his affluent family.
