The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa ) -
Chapter 42
Chapter 42
He should have felt relieved that she was self-aware. Nevertheless, an unknown anger surged in Leonard’s chest, and even his
features hinted at coldness.
Lisa was utterly confused since she had sincerely offered her blessings. ‘Why is he looking at me like I’m some kind of monster?’
Quince said, “Lisa, I didn’t expect you to be so big-hearted. I misunderstood you.”
This time, Stephanie agreed. She did not expect Lisa to have such self-awareness. It was preferable if Lisa recognized her place and backed off so that Stephanie did not have to deal with her.
However, Leonard seemed disinterested and played with his teacup. There was a dangerous aura emanating from his handsome face. “Oh? What kind of big-heartedness are you talking about? Tell me more.”
Quince explained, “You see, I have this friend who, whenever he got close to any other woman, his wife would create a big scene when he returned home. But with Lisa, she’s not envious when she sees you and Steph together and even offers her blessing. That’s what I meant by big-heartedness.”
Leonard sneered.
‘Big-heartedness? She wouldn’t have taken away my blanket the night before if she were. I’ve never seen a woman more petty and prone to retaliation than her.’
Lisa leaned closer to Quince to ease the atmosphere and get some information. She smiled and said, “I know I’m not worthy of Leonard, especially since I heard Ms. Stephanie is a world-renowned musician. I pale in comparison.”
“You’re being too modest,” Quince said. “Lisa, you’re quite beautiful. If you were more easy-going and kind to men, most of them would be interested in you.”
“Thank you.”
These two chatted happily while a shadow of danger flickered in Leonard’s eyes.
‘First, she won Lucas over. Now even the dimwitted and hard-to-please Quince is on her side. I underestimated Lisa.’
Quince rubbed his arm. “Is it chilly in here? Is the air conditioning set too low?”
“I’ll get someone to increase the temperature.” Benedict, who had been quiet until then, finally found a chance to speak. He turned to Leslie and asked, “Ms. Jones, what kind of tea would you like?”
Both “Ms. Jones” looked at him.
Benedict felt his heart s kip when he met Leslie’s bright gaze. A trace of nervousness appeared on his handsome face.
“Rose tea, please. By the way, you can just call me Leslie.”
Quince teased, “He can’t call you Leslie.”
Leslie was puzzled.
Lucas smiled and explained, “He should address you as his cousin-in-law.”
“Why?” Lisa’s eyes glinted.
Benedict scratched his cheek and reluctantly said, “Christopher is my cousin.”
Leslie and Lisa were shocked.
“You didn’t know?” Lucas poured tea for everyone while observing their expressions.
“I wasn’t aware.” Leslie’s mind was a mess. “I only met Christopher’s family recently; today was our family’s first meeting.”
Lisa quickly added, “That’s right, I overheard the Villagio Center manager mention something about bringing the boss and his friends…”
