The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa ) -
Chapter 52
Chapter 52
Michelle had returned home, planning to drive Lisa away. But before she could return, Lisa had already walked herself into a trap.
‘Good, I’m the apple of the Parker men’s eyes. Dad probably hates Lisa to the core right now.’
“Ms. Lisa…” Alice looked at Lisa with a hint of sympathy. She found her situation pitiful.
“Go and take care of Mom,” Lisa said as her cheek ached. She turned and walked down the fire escape.
That slap had truly hurt. It was more painful than when Lisa’s biological father, Hubert, hit her. Hubert was often drunk, so he was weak and had limited strength. However, Leonard differed. He was a young, tall man who had exerted maximum force at that moment.
Of course, Lisa felt aggrieved. She also felt guilty, angry, and cold-hearted.
Still, she did not retaliate for a few reasons. Firstly, she knew Melissa had eaten the cake she bought. Secondly, Jeffrey was present, so she would not have won against Leonard and Jeffrey if she had fought back.
Lastly, the Parker family was powerful, influential, and despised her. She feared they would target her family if she retaliated.
‘Forget it. I’ll just let it slide.’
However, Lisa no longer intended to stay with the Parker family. Unlike when she ran away, she wanted to avoid all contact with these people. Although she could not afford to provoke them, she could always replace a way to hide from them.
After returning to the old mansion, she threw her suitcase into the back of her car and drove away. She was grateful that she
had bought a new car. On her way out, she drove past Leonard.
He did not realize it was her due to the new car, and they swiftly passed each other. Leonard had returned to the Parker residence to pack Melissa’s clothes. When he entered his bedroom to retrieve something, he noticed Lisa’s missing suitcase.
A cold light glinted through his eyes. Fortunately, Lisa had the self-awareness to leave on her own. Leonard would have ensured she suffered if she had dared to stay.
Back at the hospital, David insisted on staying and accompanying Melissa, refusing to go home. As Alice brought him a tub of water, he suddenly recalled something and sighed. “Alice, you administered the insulin to Melissa, right?
“You have all my thanks. The doctor said Melissa would’ve had a heart attack without your quick response.”
Jeffrey also expressed gratitude, his face full of appreciation. “I’ve only ever noticed you burying yourself in your work. I didn’t expect you to be so quick-witted at such a critical moment.”
Alice was astounded for a moment, then shook her head. “You’ve misunderstood. It wasn’t me who administered the insulin.
It was Ms. Lisa.”
Everyone was stunned. Michelle said harshly, “Were you the one who told her about it, Alice? What would that little girl know about such things?”
“No. I was outside the house then, and when I returned, I saw Mrs. Melissa on the floor. I was in complete shock. It was Ms. Lisa who asked me if there was any insulin.” Alice did not know much about Lisa and did not want to lie.
The three Parker men were puzzled. Leonard pursed his lips, his dark eyes briefly losing focus.
It was not until Michelle said, “Well, it’s what she should’ve done. If Lisa hadn’t made Mom eat all that cake, she wouldn’t have passed out in the first place.
“Doesn’t she know that Mom has diabetes? Knowing about insulin proves Lisa has a good understanding of hypertension and high blood sugar. She might be retaliating against us for wrongly accusing her before.”
