The twigs and leaves crunched under my feet as I stumbled on. My vision blurred. I had to keep going. Had to replace somewhere safe to rest, to regenerate.

After what I did. I knew they would be after me. I laughed. They weren't careful enough. I knew he was in that vehicle the moment I stepped out of the door. The smell of his blood.

I tripped and tumbled down the side of the hill next to me. My body was fighting with my need to keep moving. But finally it won and I was met with darkness.

I kicked the door as I walked into the room. Damn it.

"She's a vampire." Rane repeated, following behind me.

"She shouldn't be. She should be dead." I growled.

"What do you want us to do?"

"I want her dead. I want her head."

"Yes, mistress." Rane said as he bowed and walked out.

He was going to feel the same pain I did when he murdered my mate. He doesn't get happiness when I get darkness.

I leaned against my desk. My gaze fluttered over to his ashes.. The Urn sat there like a weight. I missed him. I never got a lot of time with him.... He was gone before we could have happiness.

"Mommy." Clara ran in.

"Hey, baby." I smiled picking her up.

"You promised you'd play." She said, her teapot in her hands.

"Yes. I did. Have nanny Janet help you get set up with some tea and goodies and we can have a real tea party." I said setting her down.

"Okay mommy." She hurried off as Rane walked back in.

"She's adorable."

"Yes. She still hasn't grown. That accident caused a lot of pain for her. The doctor said nothing has changed. She's going to stay eight forever. Her human genes is what caused it. Her vampire genes is what saved her and keeps her this age. Its been so long. A hundred and fifty years she's been like this. Its not fair. "

I could feel Ranes gaze as he watched me. "How deep does your hatred for the knight clan go?"

I looked over at him before I spoke.

"Its been a hundred and fifty eight years. That was when I found my mate....."

We were kneeled near the edge of a river when we heard them coming. They weren't too far ahead. About two miles. The sound of his voice was like velvet as one of them spoke.

I looked over to Damien. He was talking to his father. The other men were over with Grayson. They didnt like that I was with them. But none of us cared.

As the men got closer I could smell the scent of him. He smelled like strawberries and earth.

About twenty minutes later they broke through the trees on the other side of the river. My eyes locked onto him. That instant I saw him, I knew. He was my mate.

I looked back at Damien and pulled at his arm. They turned and saw what I saw. The men were about to cross the river. A large tree became a bridge between us as they began to cross.

I stood. Moving towards him.

"Rose." Damien snapped, trying to pull me back."

"Mate." I whispered.

His hand dropped from my arm as he let me go.

I slowly walked out of the shadow of trees. The men stopped.

"Are you lost, Miss?" He asked, his voice ran through me. Heating every part of my body.

"No. I'm where I'm supposed to be." I said. "I'm Rose."

"You're quite far from any town Miss Rose."

"Yes."

"Gregor is the name ma'am. These are my men. Would you allow us to help you back?" He offered holding out his hand.

"Yes please." Gregor, hmm. I walked over and took it. He placed my hand on his arm as they headed into the woods.

It was dusk by the time we got anywhere safe enough to rest.

"Sleep well Miss." He said. They had given me one of their spare blankets and a bag to rest my head on. I smiled at the gesture.

Gregor sat watch first as the other men fell to sleep.

Slowly I stood and made my way over to him.

He smiled at me, "are you alright, ma'am?"

"Yes." I leaned towards him. Humming softly. He closed the gap, his lips on mine sent a wave of heat though out my entire body.

He pulled away too quickly. "Please, accept my apology ma'am. I don't know what came over me."

"I accept your apology. But you have no need for one. I do very much want to be by your side."

"Ma'am-"

"Rose."

"Miss Rose, please I am a soldier in a war. I can not leave my post."

"I want to stay by your side right here, Gregor." I said.

"We just happened upon each other today. But I feel as though I've known you for longer." His eyes gazed into mine. Like liquid gold.

I began humming before I spoke. Telling him everything about myself.

"I accept you fully, Rose." He spoke softly as his lips met mine once again.

I laid in his arms as I drifted to sleep.

_______________

It had been two weeks since I found him. I snuck away to replace Damien and his regiment.

"Please." I begged.

"Rose, he will be a newborn vampire in the middle of a war. That isn't something we can risk. I'm sorry. But you need to think about the consequences before you blindly go into something." Damien said.

"We can train him. Please."

"No, Rose. We can't. He can't get the proper training he needs. Its not a good idea right now." Kameran said.

"When the war is over we will turn him and help him with training. But right now isn't the time for it." Grayson said, coming up behind us.

"Okay. You are all right." I said, disappointed. I understood. But it was still upsetting.

I headed back to Gregor as the sun began to rise. I needed to get to him before he woke.

We continued on as we headed for the southern camp. Stopping only to rest.

"The men are going to go to the camp. I'm taking you to the town not too far away. We shall get you a room for the night. I'll come back for you in the morning." Gregor said as we all stopped.

I nodded and followed him.

We walked up to a little town about an hour later. The sun was beginning to set.

He turned towards me and led us to the room after he was finished speaking with the woman.

"I'll be back." He said as he shut the door behind him.

I turned towards the door thinking he left. But he stood there, taking everything off.

He was still in his trousers as he pulled me into a kiss. His touch sending heat through out my body.

"Gregor." I Sighed as he began to take off my clothing.

I cleared my throat and looked over at Rane. "You get the picture with that one. Anyway."

We were nearing the North Carolina boarder when I heard a group of men not too far off.

"Gregor." I said quietly before pointing in the direction of the men.

He nodded and signalled to the other men. I hurried into a safe area away from them. I could still see them as they quietly made their way towards the enemy.

Gunshots rang out. I looked to the Northern soldiers. I went to shout out at Damien but it was too late. He shot. I saw him realize who it was as they ran over to his collapsed form.

"Gregor." I screamed as I ran to him.

Kameran was trying to change him. But it was too late. He was gone.

"The bullet hit his aorta." He said, sitting back on his heels.

I collapsed at Gregor's side. Tears ran down my face as I broke. I could feel myself grow cold.

I turned my gaze up to Damien. His eyes held fear, guilt, sadness, as he looked down at me.

"I will never give up on making you regret this. I will never let you be happy. You will forever be plagued by what you did. I will never stop. When you replace your mate. I will know and I will kill her. I will take her away from you like you took Gregor from me."

"Rose it was an accident-" Grayson began. I turned my glare towards him.

They slowly back up as I stood.

I screamed as loud as I could as I began my song. Killing every man that came close to me.

When I opened my eyes The Knights were gone.

Damien will pay for what he did. Whether it an accidental or not.

"He took him away from me. Leaving me alone. I didnt know I was pregnant until a month after that. He didnt just take my mate away from me. He took my daughters father away from her." I ground out as I looked at the Urn that held Gregor's ashes.

"Clara will never get to meet her father. That alone keeps my hatred for the Knight clan in full effect. And since I can't go near them now. It is your mission to either kill her yourself or hire someone to do it."

"Of course, Mistress." He said as he bowed.

"Her accident was that. An accident. But I didnt let the man who hurt her or the woman who was in charge of making sure she was safe, off the hook. They died. Very painfully." I said. "She wasn't supposed to leave the yard. That nanny was supposed to be watching her. But she wasn't. She lost her ball and was running out to get it. The man couldn't stop his vehicle quick enough and hit her. She tumbled down into the water near them. I came out when I heard the tires squeaking. She was so broken. The doctor said she was in comatose. But I knew better. She's been the same ever since. We don't know why. We can't figure out why. Doctor Key thinks its because of her vampire genes saving her. But we don't know. I gave those two people who were the cause a slow painful death. I don't give out mercy any longer."

I looked at Rane. "Now that you understand why I am the way I am. I want you to replace someone who can kill her."

"Of course. We will do our best, Mistress."

"I don't want your best. I want full on results." I snapped.

He went to speak when a knock sounded at my door. "Come in."

Canger walked in with his brother by his side. "There's word on the Knight Clan."

"What is it?" Rane asked.

"They moved her to the cabin they have in Palmer."

"Do you know why?" I asked.

"She's having problems with her transition. Her humanity is slipping." He answered.

"Perfect. Get a team together and go get her." I said to them all. "If you don't succeed then I will be hiring someone who can get the job done. Understand?"

"Yes, Mistress." They all said, bowing.

I smiled before walking out to join my daughter.
