The Millionaire And His Billionaire Ex-Wife by Athena Chapter 73
Chapter 73
Sarah jolted awake, heaving a sigh of relief that Grace had dodged the bullet this time. Otherwise, she and Patric would never be together again.
She slumped onto the floor, mulling over how she could pick up the pieces from the mess she’d made.
After stewing over it, she grabbed her phone and dialed Patric.
The phone hummed incessantly with the busy signal, making the wait feel like an eternity.
“What’s up?”
Patric’s voice rang out, laden with impatience, “If it’s nothing urgent, I’m hanging up.”
“Wait! Don’t hang up! Patric, I genuinely need to talk to you!” Sarah clung onto her phone as if her life depended on it, fearing he might end the call any moment.
“If you’re hoping I could convince Mr. Morgan to lift your grounding, don’t hold your breath. As for the engagement, I’m still mulling it over.”
“No, I’m looking for Grace. I don’t have her number… could you put her on?” Sarah’s voice tapered off as she finished speaking.
“You want to talk to her? My advice, Miss Grammer, is to stop chasing Grace’s tail. I won’t give you the chance to hurt her again.” Patric warned, his voice dropping to a whisper.
“No, I’m here to apologize to her. Sarah hit her lip, “Please pass her the phone. I’m begging you,
Patric.”
“Apologize?”
Patric was taken aback. Given that she was all the way in S City and was grounded, she wasn’t likely to stir the pot, so he reluctantly agreed to her request.
He knocked gently on the door of the makeshift operating room, cracking it open slightly, and beckoned to Grace inside.
Grace shot a glance at Chad, still engrossed in the operation, and crept out.
“What’s wrong?”
Patric handed her his phone, “Sarah wants a word.”
“With me?”
Grace took his phone, suspicion written all over her face, and shot a glance at the screen, “What’s up? Can’t stay out of trouble even at home, and now you want to make trouble with a call?”
“No, I’m here to apologize.”
The typical co ck iness in Sarah’s voice was gone. However, her years as a blue blood made it impossible for her to how down completely.
“I messed up earlier. I apologize. As long as you don’t play gooseberry in my relationship with Patric, I am willing to get along well with you.”
Grace remained silent.
Did she figure out her real identity?
Seeing her mute response, Sarah felt a pang of guilt and continued, “To show you I’m sincere, consider the Hedda matter as a gift.”
“A gift for me?”

Grace couldn’t help but chuckle, “Alright, I’ll wait and see.”
After being hung up by Grace, Sarah wasn’t ruffled, but dialed another number instead.
In a heartbeat, the call was answered by Nancy in the hospital.
“How’s it going? Did you replace Hedda?”
“No need to, because she’s already six feet under.” Sarah’s voice was devoid of any emotion.
“Really?” Nancy’s voice filled with joy, “Are you certain? Was she at Patric’s villa? Was it your man who did her in? She…”
Sarah cut her off, “That’s enough, you don’t need to know all these details. Just keep in mind she’s pushing up daisies. I’m calling to give you a heads-up, our partnership has come to an end.”
Nancy was taken aback by this sudden decision, her eyes widening in shock.
“Why? Because Grace and Hedda have kicked the bucket?”
“Exactly. Because of this, Patric wants to call off our engagement, my parents are already in the know.” Sarah’s voice escalated, “Right now, I’ve got my hands full just trying to keep my own head above water, I don’t have the time to entertain any partnership. Anyway, the two thorns in your side are out of the picture, your road to being the successor of the Mellis Group is smooth sailing.”
“But…”
“There are no buts about it, end of story.” Sarah interrupted impatiently, hanging up the call.
Nancy was still looking to say something but the line was already dead.
She blankly stared at the call history on her phone, a mix of elation and confusion washing over her.
Having gotten rid of her two most detested individuals, she had every reason to rejoice.
But Sarah’s peculiar behavior today was a cause for concern.
She felt that tonight’s Sarah was stranger than usual, but couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was off.
Whatever, if she couldn’t figure it out, she would put it on the back burner. She tossed her phone aside and laid on her bed.
She tried to cast these doubts out of her mind, but Sarah’s words were etched deep into her thoughts, lingering on persistently.
The more Nancy thought about it, the more irritable she became. She sat up, gazing at the ceiling. There was something wrong with Sarah tonight, prompting her to question her former collaborator. Their collaboration was born out of mutual interests in the first place, the level of trust between them was only known to themselves.
“Well, it seems that you’ve recovered quite well!”
Emma walked in with her maid, seeing her sitting up in bed, she crinkled her nose in disgust, “Hurry up and eat, don’t sit there daydreaming.”
Nancy never quite had a stomach for hospital food.
Even when it was a VIP meal, she found it distasteful after a few bites and would cast it aside, always demanding that meals he sent from the Mellis family.
For this, she had to endure the sharp tongues and snide remarks of Emma.
Aş Nancy accepted the meal from the ser vant, the sight of Emma reminded her of the now deceased Hedda, a thought that brought a certain lightness to her heart.

“Indeed, I’m recovering quickly. It’s a good turn of events for the Mellis family. After all, I’m the heir. Imagine the predicament the Mellis family would be in if I kick the bucket.”
She stirred her fruit and vegetable salad nonchalantly, shooting a side glance at Emma.
Emma, not one to hold her tongue, rolled her eyes and retorted, “Figures that the mistress’s child would be a piece of work. You’ll never shake off that title, no matter how high you climb. What’s not yours will never be yours.”
With that, Emma turned her head away, refusing to give Nancy the satisfaction of her attention.
Looking at Emma’s composed face, Nancy was taken aback.
Hedda had vanished without a trace, and yet there was not a flicker of worry on Emma’s face.
Something smelled fishy.
This thought prompted her to shoot a frosty glance at Emma. “I’m merely injured and will be out of here in a jiffy. But your child is not so lucky. She’s left this world for good.”
With the air of someone holding the winning hand, she watched Emma’s expression shift from composed to panic-stricken.
“What did you say?!”
Emma lunged at her, grabbing her by the hospital gown, “What happened to my daughter? Speak clearly!”
“Have you got wax in your ears?” Nancy swatted her hand away in disgust. “Your daughter will never grace this world with her presence again. Hedda, she’s dead!”
“Impossible! You’re lying! My daughter was hale and hearty, how could she die? You’re pulling my leg. You’re just green with envy, and you’re cursing her!”
Emma was beside herself, her finger trembling as she pointed at Nancy.
