The Other Part of Me -
Chapter 29
Braden
On the way back from the city, Braden informed Jason of all that had been going on in his life in such a short time. From Magdalena's prediction, to Cassie heading into rogue territory, to his failure as an Alpha to his mate.
When they arrived back, Jason tasked himself with repairing the broken window in Cassie's room so that Braden could sort things out as he should have done from the beginning. However, Braden noticed Cassie's Jeep was not in the parking lot when they returned. He helped Jason carry the fragile window to its intended destination and quickly ran downstairs in search for his mate.
He ran to the pharmacy first, storming through the door in search for Cassie. He didn't see her, but he did see Bridgette behind the counter filling capsules with powder. "Bridgette, do you know where Cassie went?"
She shook her head. "No, but she didn't look very happy when she left here."
"What do you mean?" He asked her quickly. "What happened?"
Bridgette stared at Braden and sighed. She put the capsule down and rubbed her hands down the protective brown smock she wore. "You do realize..." she let her words trail and she patted her belly area. "Does she?" He asked. "Did she figure it out?"
Bridgette hung her head. "It's my fault. She was telling me about what happened last night, I put two and two together and in my vicarious excitement, I blurted it out. She didn't believe me-- said it would be too soon to know." She motioned to the restroom in the corner of the pharmacy. "She only believed me after the third test." She walked around her station and moved to the front counter, reaching under it and producing a box. She handed it to Braden.
He took the box and looked inside. He pulled out three white plastic sticks that looked like oral thermometers and saw the word 'Pregnant' on all of their respective windows. Although he already knew the answer, seeing the official truth in front of him made it real.
Braden dropped himself on a chair. He looked towards the capsules Bridgette was holding when he walked in. "Did she ask for abortion pills?"
Bridgette looked at Braden with pity written all over her face. "Braden, honey, maybe you need to replace her and have a talk with her. She didn't say anything to me about her intentions, but there's no reason why she would have without speaking with you first."
He looked at the pack's apothecary, wondering where Cassie could be at this time. Slowly, he stood. "Do me a favor?"
Bridgette nodded. "Anything."
"If she asks you for abortion pills-just give them to her."
Bridgette stared at him wide-eyed with her mouth agape. "But Braden "
He quickly stopped her. "I'm going to talk to her and hope it doesn't come to that, but if it does, it's okay." He said sadly. With that, he walked away holding the box of used pregnancy tests close to his heart.
