The Rebel -
Chapter 10
Vera’s point of view:
His eyes kept me awake, they scrambled my brain.
And my she-wolf didn’t help me either.
“Trust my mate. He’ll protect us.”
I didn’t need his protection. I was capable of protecting myself.
Rubbing my forehead in frustration, I tried to distract myself when his last words echoed in my mind.
Forget him or I’ll make you.
Possessive, controlling and selfish.
He was just like the rest of them. Who said he was different?
I put on my leather jacket and headed into the forest to run.
I couldn’t transform, in case anyone saw my wolf form.
So I simply walked, enjoying the silence of the night.
An hour later, I was on my way back when my wolf sensed something.
The aura of the forest changed and I closed my eyes to feel the silence.
Tac… Tac… Tac…
1.. 2… F**k
I opened my eyes as I turned around, there were too many of them. There were hundreds, if not thousands.
An attack at that moment was completely unexpected.
Warriors! Prepare yourselves! We are under attack.
I sent a signal through the mental link to all the warriors and leaned against a tree.
I listened to the sound of their footsteps coming towards me.
5 different auras…
It was an organized attack by 5 different Alphas coming together.
And the idea scared me.
I’d never faced so many Alphas.
I didn’t know whether I’d be able to defeat them or not.
“Alpha! There are so many more. Nearly 2,000 wolves attacking together.”
The chief warrior made a mental connection with me and I took a deep breath before opening my eyes and looking at the enemy.
“Protect the pack. I’ll take care of the borders.”
“But Alpha! How can you… It’s impossible…”
I severed the mental link, taking a deep breath.
They were too close, the sound of their footsteps became audible.
And then, suddenly, they stopped.
I thought they saw me.
“Look who it is. If it isn’t the first weak, pathetic Alpha woman,” one of them said, and I looked up. I was right, there were 5 Alphas.
The one who spoke to me was the strongest.
“Yet you still brought 4 Alphas and 2,000 warriors to fight me,” I said mockingly and the blond man gritted his teeth in irritation. They weren’t used to being disrespected, I had a feeling.
Another, with black hair and blue eyes, stepped forward, clenching his fist. Alpha Theo of the Bluemoon pack, if I’m not mistaken.
“We’re here to negotiate, young lady. The Silvermoon territory is one of the most important trade routes, we’re willing to give you a good price for it.”
I scoffed, shoving my hands into my pockets.
“Negotiate? Doesn’t sound like it, Alpha Theo,” I said, looking behind him.
He looked surprised, not expecting me to know his name.
The other Alphas exchanged glances and I smiled.
I really wouldn’t want to kill them all, but if they’d get past my limits.
Unfortunately, I would.
“Turn around and go back, Alpha. I’m not open to the slightest negotiation.”
They took a step forward instead and I felt them mentally link with their men.
Sighing, I adjusted my cap and stared at them.
“Females are supposed to look after homes and children, not packs. Leave it to us, we promise not to harm your people,” said the 3rd Alpha, he seemed to be the most sensible and calm of them all, but his words showed he wasn’t.
“That’s what you think. You can put me to the test, Alpha. I’d be happy to disprove your belief.”
And that was it, they all nodded, ready for the attack.
My hand went to my waist to pull out my knife.
When I felt the presence of someone behind me, my hand stopped and my mind froze.
What was that bastard doing there?
Fear invaded my mind. I didn’t want him to see me fighting. If I did, he’d know who I was.
F**k!
The Alphas began to approach me and I closed my eyes.
There had to be something… anything.
Opening my eyes, I clenched my fist. I’ll fight with my hands if necessary.
Let the battle begin.
The warriors approached me first and I kicked one in the calf and punched the other. They fell back groaning in pain as I kicked another sideways and punched the first.
My knuckles bled, sweat poured from my forehead and my arms were covered with claw marks.
But I wouldn’t give up.
The Alpha watched me quietly, guarding their men while I continued to fight everyone.
Victory was an impossible thing, at least not in my current state.
But I had no choice but to fight to my last breath.
Time passed, but I didn’t stop for a second.
I could feel the b***d running down my forehead. My hands went numb and my whole body ached.
But the adrenaline kept pumping through me.
He was still standing behind me, in the shadows. Watching my every move.
And his gaze burned even hotter than the wounds on my body.
Distracted, I didn’t notice that one of the warriors had pulled out a knife and was aiming for my abdomen. Before I could stop him, he had already thrust himself inside, tearing my flesh and causing me excruciating pain.
My breathing stopped for a second when I touched it. Holding the handle in my hand, I withdrew the knife.
I looked at the warrior.
He looked frightened.
My aura had become deadly and devastating.
Silence invaded the forest and everyone stopped.
“Bad move, kid.”
That was all I said, and then they knew everything. The warriors had fallen to the ground, dead.
The blade in my hand is stained by his b***d, as I looked at the others.
They didn’t dare come forward.
“Stop it! He’ll replace out who we are!”
My she-wolf tried to stop me, and she was right.
Everyone knew how the Rebel killed his enemy.
I couldn’t give him a reason to doubt me.
The pain in my abdomen started to spread and that’s when I looked at the knife closely.
The bastards had poisoned it.
The warriors overtook me, heading for my pack and I ran behind them.
Stopping them from going any further.
Someone managed to kick the wound in my abdomen, but I didn’t stop.
Dragging them with me, I kept punching them.
My vision was getting blurry from the venom.
But, I couldn’t stop.
He was still there, watching me suffer.
But he did nothing to protect me.
Why was he doing this?
It was possible he’d planned this attack; the Alphas didn’t form cartels unless someone was leading them. And I could see that he commanded them.
My own companion planned this.
But why?
And it was then that our earlier conversation came back to my head.
The Rebel.
He wanted to catch him, he was waiting for him to come and protect me.
His idea made me laugh.
Was he so determined to catch the Rebel that he was willing to see me die for it?
His gentleness and kindness toward me were false.
He didn’t love me. He was using me.
I twisted the person’s neck in my grip. Making him die in an instant.
Anger surged through my veins at his betrayal.
He wanted the Rebel. To death, he’ll never replace it.
Rising to my full height, I dropped the knife from my hands.
I opened my arms and allowed them to attack me.
“Give it your best shot, bastards.”
And with that, the real pain began. My body was ready for this test.
The test is called endurance.
