The Rebel -
Chapter 32
Vera’s point of view.
That look.
He looked like he was going to transform, his eyes searching for the truth as they rested on our held hands.
He closed his eyes. He stepped back, surprising me.
I expected him to attack Kane, to stake his claim on me again.
But instead, he just turned his back.
His shoulders stiffened and then his words shook something inside me.
“I’m sorry for the intrusion.” Excuse me. »
And with that, he stormed out and my grip on Kane’s hand loosened.
Eyes fixed on the closed door.
“Did he really leave like that?” It’s strange ? Is it possible that he has changed over these years? »
My thoughts were interrupted by Kane’s words and I looked up at him.
“What is it, Vera?” Why did you do it ? »
He asked, sitting next to me, and I ignored him. I concentrated on picking up the glass of water from the table.
He took note of my difficulties and then took the glass and placed it near my lips.
” Drink. »
He said and I did. I felt my entire body burn and break into aches.
I saw that the black marks on my arm were gone, but I didn’t feel well.
I still felt weak and numb like before.
Once finished, I stepped back and he set the glass down.
His gray eyes were filled with worry as he looked at my face.
” It’s serious ? I
asked directly and he looked down at his hands, unable to meet my eyes.
“Why did you do such a thing, Vera? I never thought…”
“What are you talking about? »
“He doesn’t know I’m the Rebel, does he?”
Things will get worse if he knows… No one has to know… No one. »
“Did you try to kill yourself once? ” »
And I kept silent. “Oh, so that’s it. Thank you moon goddess. »
“I’m asking you a question, Vera. How can you be so stupid? Do you even know what that can do to someone? »
I refused to answer. And he put his finger on my chin, making me look up at him.
“Vera. Tell me. »
“I can’t… It doesn’t matter anyway.” »
He stepped back, disappointed. His next words made my b***d run cold.
“It’s important, Vera… You’re dying. »
… … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
The point of view by Logan
I sat on a rock,
His voice soothed my mind to some extent as I tried to forget his words which were sharp swords on my heart.
“We are partners. »
The word “partner” alone made my b***d boil.
“How can she say that when I’m still alive?”
How can she choose another man over me? »
The images of her kissing him, holding his hand and smiling at him came to my mind.
And I wanted to break something to let off steam.
But I deserved it.
She deserved it.
Kane is a good guy, I’ve met him a few times and he’ll make her happy.
But the thought of someone touching her made me want to break her fingers instead.
She’s mine.
I wanted to shout it to the whole world. Tell the council that your Queen was here.
But I was not his King.
“What should I do to ask for forgiveness? How will she forgive me? »
My thoughts were interrupted when I saw her rushing out of her pack.
His steps were shaky.
” What happened to him ? Why is she walking… She wasn’t well… She should rest. »
I decided to follow her, without making my presence known.
I tried to stay in the shadows.
While walking through the forest, I saw her reach a clearing. She stopped, got on her knees and placed her palms on the floor.
” What happened ? Is she crying? She was fine a few minutes ago…did Kane say something to her? »
I wanted to get closer to her, to gather her broken pieces. To keep her safe in my arms, but I stayed behind the bushes, hiding.
“She’s not going to like it… She’ll be even more irritated to see me.” »
“Why?” »
I heard her say as she looked up at the stars. Her beautiful eyes shone with tears.
His hands clenched on the ground.
I felt his sadness… My wolf cried out in my mind.
But I remained motionless, without moving, without doing anything.
I watched her burn in her misery.
” For what ? Why, damn it! For what ! »
She almost screamed and my hands held the bark of the tree tightly.
And then my eyes widened as she started pulling at the bandages covering her shoulder.
Causing b***d to ooze from the claw mark that didn’t heal properly.
“No Vera!” Stop that ! Why are you hurting yourself like that!
Where is Kane! Why isn’t he here with her? She needs someone right now…”
My thoughts were interrupted when she laid down on the ground.
Her tears moistened the sand. I took a step forward.
Seeing my strong lioness so weak and vulnerable.
But before I could reach it… I heard heavy footsteps and stopped.
My heart broke again when I saw Kane approaching her, his footsteps hurried and his worry evident.
“F**k, Vera!” What did you do ? »
He screamed and she continued to sob.
No matter how hard she tried to push him away, he always came closer to her.
” I’m doing well. Please leave me alone, Kane… Please…”
Taking off his shirt, he tried to stop the b***d from spilling. He tied it around his shoulder.
My fists clenched as he pulled her against his chest, rubbing his palm on her shoulder soothingly.
” Everything is fine. I am here. Just breathe Vera. Everything will be alright. »
She sobbed, clutching her chest, and I felt my eyes blur.
“W…Why…Kane…Why…Me?” »
“Why is she so broken?” What are they hiding from me? The doctor said she was fine… Was she lying? »
I remembered the doctor exchanging a look with Kane.
“It’s okay, Vera… It’s okay… You’re a strong girl. Let it all out. »
And she did, crying as she clung to him like he was everything to her.
It continued… She continued to cry, her body grew weaker.
He soothed her hair and soon, among those tears of pain and oozing wounds, she found sleep.
Leaning her head against his chest. She closed her eyes.
His arms wrap her in their security.
And I turned around, not being able to see it anymore.
My eyes met Kane’s, only to replace that he was already staring at me.
His eyes told me he already knew.
But I couldn’t do anything. “I won’t even breathe the same air as hers if she hates me that much.”
I won’t touch her if she doesn’t want me near her.
I lost this right, I lost it.
I may have been his companion once, but now… I’m just a stranger. »
Turning my back on them, I plunged into the forest.
Moving through the air and letting it all out.
My own regrets were killing me and they wouldn’t stop until she forgave me.
I didn’t know when and how it happened.
But if I hear the word Love, she’s the only one I see, after losing mom and dad. I was alone most of the time, I knew friendship, I knew associates and allies, but I didn’t know love.
I never experienced it until I looked into his rebellious eyes.
Until his independence and fierceness attracted me like no other human being could.
“I love you, Vera Red.
Deeply and madly. And I’m going to make sure I tell you, before I lose you completely. »

.
.
3 hours later
.
.
.
I came back to see Ben waiting for me.
I moved over and nodded to ask him what the problem was.
“I’m afraid, King Alpha. We need you at court. The Alphas request a meeting immediately.
» “What’s the emergency?” »
“The eastern borders are under attack. They have already covered 3 km. 25 of our men died. »
” Shit ! More bad news! Why can’t they let me live in peace for once. »
“I’m coming.” Gather the men. We leave in 20 minutes. »
“Yes Alpha.” »
He said bowing. I left.
I’m not an ordinary Alpha now, I’m King Alpha.
Even if I wanted to stay there and make amends, I couldn’t do it.
I didn’t have time for that.
My ignorance could cause lives.
As I headed towards his room, I decided to tell him the truth before leaving.
I gave him the choice to accept me or not.
Persuasion with her is never good, it is only her will that decides.
Opening the door, I slowly walked in to see her sleeping.
With her hands clasped and her head resting on them, she slept like a baby.
I smiled when I saw her.
I tried to remember her face, not knowing when I would see her again.
I was planning to fix this and come back sooner, but I couldn’t leave a battlefield in between if that were to happen.
I saw his bangs covering his face and wanted to move them behind his ear.
My fingers moved forward, but stopped in mid-air.
I clenched my fist, feeling that burn in my chest again.
I closed my eyes and clenched my fists.
“Can I touch her… If only I could feel her warm skin against my joints.” »
“No, Logan… You can’t… She’ll hate you even more… Leave her.” »
My conscience scolded me and so I withdrew.
I turned my back on him to leave, trying to engrave his peaceful face in my mind.
But I had just taken another step when I heard a voice from behind.
Making my wolf howl with contentment.
“Why are you here…Logan?” »
I closed my eyes, my name on his lips sounded like music and I wanted to hear it every day for the rest of my life.
Remaining silent and not turning around, I let the silence settle.
I was waiting for her to give me back my paradise… Waiting for her to take my name.
“Logan?” »
She said again and I finally turned around. My eyes stared at the ground, I didn’t look up at his face.
I didn’t want to see hatred in it… Like I saw the day she left me in that burning fire.
“I asked you what you were doing here?” »
I took a deep breath before starting, meeting his cold gaze.
“I was here to… I… I need to talk to you… About… Something.” »
“I’m listening to you”
She said, crossing her arms, and I felt almost intimidated… Almost.
Damn, she had become even sexier than before.
“I…I’m sorry…”
“Damn, man!” Find yourself a backbone…” Was I really stuttering in front of her? King Alpha stuttering in front of his mate… How cute.
“I’ve had enough already, Logan. You don’t need to worry about it anymore. You can leave. »
“I’m leaving. »
My words made him raise an eyebrow.
” So what ? »
“I mean I have important business to attend to and… I’m going to return to the royal court.” »
“I don’t care if you leave or not. Why are you telling me this? »
See, that’s what I was talking about. His hatred, his indifference.
They were all so hurtful… Didn’t they hurt him?
“I… Just thought you… I mean maybe…”
“You were wrong, Logan. »
I nodded, looking down for her to continue.
“You were my past, Logan. The past that I forgot and left behind. Why have you come now? »
I chuckled helplessly.
The words came next without any filter.
” Forget ? Is it so easy to forget, Vera? »
I moved closer, making him raise his head to look at me.
“If so, then please give me the reward, Vera.
For the last 767 days, 15 hours and 32 minutes. I repented every second, I miss you.
I’m dying to feel those sparks again, beating myself up for marking you against your will, cursing myself every time I breathe.
Your eyes haunted my nights Vera and the fire, my worst nightmare.
I felt like a failure in the name of a companion, a dishonor in the name of a care, but it doesn’t matter, I can’t lie to myself. »
I looked into her eyes, opening my heart to her. “I hope she is able to see my heart through the veils of her hatred and anger. »
“I love you, Vera Red. I loved you and I will always love you until my last breath. »
His eyes widened, his grip on his sheet tightened.
“From the first day I saw you at the office, your provocative eyes blew me away. The first time I touched you, I became addicted to you. Your fearlessness, bravery and attitude were a blow to my male ego and maybe that’s where somewhere I started to fall in love with you.
I know… It sounds sick… But trust me, I feel sick too. Sick with the disease you infected me with.
Sick of loving you and thinking of you every second. »
She just stared at me, her eyes emotionless.
Closed windows hiding its true meaning when I open mine.
“But you know what’s worst? »
I said, bending down to get on his level.
My face in front of her, my nose almost touching hers.
Distracted by his lips, I returned my gaze to his eyes and whispered.
“That you never loved me.” »
A dead silence settled in and I saw surprise cover his features.
His eyes fluttered between my eyes in disbelief.
“You never wanted a man in your life, Vera. You never wanted a mate. »
“I was not your wish, but an obligation to your wolves.
A simple compulsion. »
“When I hoped you would rush into my arms to discover that we were souls like any other, you didn’t. »
My hugs were like a prison for you.
My pleasant touch was a disgust.
And my love?
This has never happened to you. It was just unrequited love. »
She said nothing, looking down at her hands.
When I pulled away from her, placing my hands in my pockets.
“I admit that I was wrong to force you that day. But, we can’t forget that you never told me the truth.
You hid from me that you were the daughter of the man who killed my parents. »
She looked up suddenly, frowning as I continued.
“The same man who took me from the royal prince of the werewolf world to a simple orphan, rogue, with no one to care for him, in the span of one night.
A simple 5 year old boy who just wanted to run was thrown before the wolves to survive. To feed your stomach and stay alive. »
Tell me Vera, why wouldn’t I have hated you when the very healthy b***d of man flowed in you?
But you know what… Even after everything… I tried, but I couldn’t hate you… I couldn’t hurt you.
I thought you were like that too… That you would never hurt me, but I was wrong. I
said, grabbing the bed post in my death grip.
“You saw me follow you into the fire… You saw me risk my life to save you… You knew I was at your door… Screaming for you to open it.
But you just left, Vera… You just left, jumping out the window and leaving me to die.
Without even turning around once to see if I was alive or not?
If the man who was going to give his life for you was breathing or not? »
There was silence, she said nothing.
She didn’t respond to my gaze.
“In your hatred for your father, you began to hate all men with a passion, Vera.
“You began to hate the idea of the marital bond and even more than that… You began to fear the word Love. »
She looked up, and what I saw in her brown eyes made me confirm my statement.
It was still fear… She was afraid of it.
“Everyone has a past, Vera. Even I had one, but I never stopped loving it and I never will. »
I got closer,
“Give love a chance, Vera… Give us a chance… And believe me. The day you love someone. »
I looked into her eyes, my breath touched her lips and the urge to k**s was stronger.
“It will be the best feeling in the world. »
She closed her eyes, the beating of her heart audible to my ears.
Smiling at her innocence, I looked at her glossy lips one last time before whispering.
“Until next time, Vera.” I will wait for your response. »
And with that, I left, leaving her to her thoughts.
I didn’t physically touch her in all that time, but I hoped I had touched and ignited the most precious of all.
Her delicate but frozen heart.
