The Regretful Ex-wife by Iced Coffee -
Chapter 25
Chapter 0025
A heavy silence hung in the air of the ballroom. Everyone’s attention was on Sean and Diego. The idea of a man even more influential than Diego was unheard of, as Diego himself was the richest man on earth.
It was rumored that Diego came into town to welcome a mysterious guest. Could the guest be Sean Lakeworth?
Amid the confusion, Diego slowly explained with a stern look, “I do not wish to see anything of that sort again. I want those who boarded. The Mirage to have a great time.”
The guests were taken aback by Diego’s warning. A curious individual raised his hand, asking aloud, “M-Mr. Black, is Mr. Lakeworth the mysterious special guest you invited?”
The guests were consumed by curiosity, but Diego merely muttered,
No.”
No? The answer came as a shock to the guests, who had
goosebumps when they met the murderous look in Diego’s eyes.
Recalling the fate of Tina and Wayne just now, the guests feared for their lives because they had been causing a scene in the ballroom just like the two. Wanting to escape the fate of being thrown.
overboard, they trembled and replied without pressing further, “I see,
Mr. Black. We’ll leave.”
“Sure.” Diego nodded softly. He paid no attention to anyone except
for his master.
The rest of the onlookers excused themselves. “Mr. Black, we’ll be leaving as well.”
Only Cecilia hesitated, her eyes on Sean. Seeing that, Diego furrowed

his brows, asking, “Miss, why aren’t you leaving?”
“Mr. Black, I-” Cecilia faltered.
Smiling, Sean introduced her to Diego, “She’s my friend.”
“Oh. So, you’re a friend of his,” Diego mused and immediately softened.
Cecilia was stumped. What exactly was Sean’s background?
Noticing Cecilia’s surprise, Sean signaled to Diego, saying, “Mr. Black, we’re among friends. Drop the act.”
Before he could ascertain Cecilia’s feelings for him, he didn’t want her to keep a distance from him out of fear and respect.
“Haha! Thanks for the reminder.” Diego caught on instantly and laughed.
“Huh?” Cecilia was puzzled. What was going on?
Noting her confusion, Diego explained with a smile, “I was putting on a show with Mr. Lakeworth.”
“A show?” She remained perplexed. Diego replied, “That’s right.”
She pondered, “So… You’re not master and servant?”
Diego shook his head. “Nope.”
Oddly, she felt a sense of relief, but it was soon replaced by more questions. “May I know what your relationship is?”
“I’ll tell you the truth-Mr. Lakeworth was my savior,” Diego said.
Cecilia appeared astonished. “Your savior?”
Diego replied, “Yes. Years ago, I suffered from a serious ailment. I sought the best doctors, who were all stumped by my condition.

“It was by sheer luck that I ran into Mr. Lakeworth, who cured my illness with his amazing skills. Since I owed him a favor, I promised him that I would do anything he wanted me to, as long as it was
within my means.
“Mr. Lakeworth was in trouble and asked for my help. So, I made good on my promise and put on a show with him.”
Cecilia gasped when she came to the realization, “Oh, so that was what happened!” That explained why Diego had addressed Sean as Sire”. It was a strategy to boost Sean’s standing and credibility in front of Tina and Wayne.
Sean observed Cecilia’s response with a smile. “Ms. Worthington, are you disappointed?”
“Of course not!” She shook her head vehemently with shock in her eyes as she exclaimed, “Mr. Lakeworth, you’re so talented! I didn’t know you were skilled in medicine.”
“It’s all luck,” he humbly replied. “I happened to learn a thing or two from a renowned doctor. I got lucky and cured Mr. Black’s illness.”
“Still, that’s pretty great!” Cecilia conceded, but she pursed her lips as new doubts surfaced. She was about to press on when Diego, fearing that their act might be exposed, interjected, “Ms. Worthington, I will be leaving Skye City in two days’ time. need to have a private chat with Mr. Lakeworth in the lounge. Could you please excuse us for a few minutes?”
“Sure, Mr. Black. Go ahead. I’ll wait for you outside on the deck,” replied Cecilia, her eyes gleaming with skepticism.
“Thank you for your understanding.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“Mr. Lakeworth, this way.”

“Got it, Mr. Black” Sean answered, playing along with a courteous
behavior.
Nodding, Diego made his way out of the ballroom.
A few curious guests, eavesdropping outside the ballroom, were shocked to discover Sean wasn’t Diego’s master; rather, Diego had played along with Sean to repay Sean’s help from years ago.
At the same time, Cecilia frowned as Sean and Diego left. Something felt amiss, and it bothered her.
