Chapter 1778 Things Weren't Looking Good

Even if Sally and Simon didn't care about Bryce, there was still a human being locked up in the basement, yet they seemed to show no concern for the matter. Ian didn't feel like he had any means of evaluating both of them. Sally and Simon had been pampered ever since they were born, so they were naturally individuals who were a little more selfish.

At the very least, Sally had visited lan to beg for his forgiveness, but Simon hadn't done a single thing. Perhaps he's too afraid to do anything, lan figured. After the previous fights, Bryce altered his will to reduce the inheritance that Sally and Simon were to receive. Perhaps they're afraid that their names might be erased off the will if they were to make Bryce angry again. Well... I can see where they're coming from, but I don't really understand how they can do such a thing. Although we're often taught to put ourselves first, I don't think the same rule applies when the other party involved is your mom. They can't possibly think that money is more important than a person's life, right?

Both Sean and lan agreed on this matter, and they talked for a while more before lan headed off. After trailing behind lan for a while, Cindy couldn't help but turn around to glance at Sean. Sean was standing a the doors of the ward, with his body turned in the direction of the visitors that had just left.

For some reason, Cindy thought Sean looked especially lonely at that moment. How did he survive in such a manipulative and hostile family? If Leah was bad to lan, I'm sure she wasn't very nice to Sean, either. Ultimately, both Sean and lan are innocent victims whose lives were ruined by Bryce.

In the middle of the night, lan received another call from Sean. Sean told lan that Bryce had been sent to the emergency room again and that Bryce's condition was worse than before. The doctor highlighted that Bryce had a weak heart and had blood clots in his brain. Such issues were especially dangerous to older people. Sean was in too much distress to know what to do at that point.

The doctor explained that Bryce had never been a healthy man and that all sorts of diseases were knocking on his door since he was aging. Previous health screenings had already indicated that Bryce had a weak heart, but it hadn't been much of a problem back then because his heart had still been strong enough to support him.

However, the most recent screening showed that Bryce's cardiac functions were deteriorating rapidly-it could no longer bear the pressures of sustaining Bryce's physical being. The doctors couldn't provide a clear explanation for the source of Bryce's illness. There were a few factors-he could've been impacted by the public's views after all that had happened to him in recent days, or he could have had some hidden health risks and issues all along.

The doctor didn't give them any clear directions or answers. There was no mention of any promises to save Bryce, nor was there any talk about how much longer Bryce could live. The doctors simply told them to be prepared. Once the doctor said that, they could tell that things weren't looking good for the old man.

Sean phoned lan just to tell lan not to leave so soon. Sean wanted lan to stay as he thought that Bryce might take his last breath soon. Ian agreed to stay and asked if Sean needed him at the hospital. "You don't have to come now," Sean uttered in a somewhat strained voice. "The doctors just finished resuscitating him. You don't have to come since I'll be here."

"There's no point in you staying there. Let the nurses do their job-they're the professionals," Ian uttered after some hesitation. It sounded rather heartless for lan, Bryce's biological son, to say such a thing, but Sean understood where lan was coming from.

"Okay. I'll get some rest later at night. I have some work to do at the office tomorrow, so I won't be at the hospital tomorrow," Sean explained. He was exhausted and overwhelmed with work, especially since he was handling Morgan Group all on his own now. After reminding him to get some rest, lan ended the call.

Cindy turned around in bed and glanced at lan with her eyes narrowed. "What is it? Did something happen at the hospital?"

lan lowered his phone and lay back down in bed as he pulled Cindy into his arms. "The old man's condition is worsening. I'm afraid we might not be able to leave just yet. We'll have to see how things turn out for him."

Cindy frowned upon hearing this. "How did his condition get so terrible all of a sudden?"
