The Returning EX (John and Sophia) -
Chapter 1841
Chapter 1841 Stubborn Types
Cindy sighed in frustration. "She called and texted me, but I ignored her."
Aurora's eyes widened before she suddenly burst out laughing as a thought crossed her mind. "How interesting."
Interesting, you say? More like extremely annoying. With that in mind, lan leaned into the couch and muttered darkly, "I don't even know where she got the nerve."
Aurora piped up in amusement, "I think she's so used to getting her way in all her years in the industry that she has become blatantly oblivious to how unreasonable and pushy she is."
Cindy nodded in agreement. Yulia had been adored and revered by many in the industry and everyone wanted in on her resources, which explained why she was frazzled when lan rejected her.
And now, Yulia was trying to prove herself to him.
Aurora pointed out while sounding sentimental, "To be frank, she does have what it takes to make someone famous, and anyone else would have gladly lapped up her good favor instead of turning her down like we did."
Not wanting to stay for this conversation any longer, lan rose from his seat and said glumly, "The both of you should carry on. I'm going out for some fresh air; it's been a long day."
When she saw this, Cindy quickly stood up and asked, "Where are you going? I'll come with you."
"I want to be alone for a bit," he answered impassively.
She looked at him pensively with her lips pressed into a thin line, but she said nothing. She was only worried that lan would call Yulia on impulse. Regardless of the high regards Yulia had for him, Cindy hated to think how merciless she could be if lan were to actively go against her.
It would only take Yulia a snap of her fingers to destroy lan and the possibility of this made Cindy feel unsettled.
As if reading her thoughts, lan smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm not that impulsive. Besides, it's not like she will do anything to us right now, and if I were to call her, I would only seem defensive."
While everyone knew what Yulia was trying to do, none of them had resorted to a table talk just yet. As things were, Yulia acted as if she had lan's best interests at heart, and if he were to call her now to demand an explanation, he would only be pitting himself against her.
To one side, Aurora placated Cindy, "lan knows what to do, so don't you worry your pretty little head about it."
Now that Aurora had given such reassurances, Cindy did not argue any further and merely nodded.
Shortly after that, lan left and made his way downstairs. A brief moment of hesitation later, he walked out of the apartment compound.
As he aimlessly wandered around, his frustration did not ebb. He was riddled with self-blame after all the trouble that he had caused.
He had already had his hands full with the false rumors and scandals plaguing him on the internet, which, much to his chagrin, inadvertently saw Aurora and Cindy being dragged into the center of controversy as well. But now that Yulia had decided to add to his list of annoyances by pawning Aurora and Cindy for her own intentions, he grew even more irritated and exasperated.
Presently, he had on a cap and a face mask, so no one could recognize him as he walked on the streets.
He had strolled for quite a bit when his phone rang in his pocket. As he fished it out, he saw that Yulia's name and number were flashing on the screen. His fingers tightened around his phone, and he felt so frustrated that he could laugh. To think that I almost called her to demand an explanation, he thought grimly. He wondered how she had the audacity to hit him up now after she had called everyone close to him.
He also wondered whether she had no sense of self-awareness whatsoever, so much so that she didn't think her gestures thus far had been unreasonable, untoward, and just plain rude.
However, before he could answer her call, a car rolled to a stop next to him and gave a loud honk. Ian jumped and when he turned to look at the vehicle in bewilderment, his expression shifted.
Idling next to him was the same car Yulia had used when she picked them up from the airport and dropped them home the other day.
The driver's side window rolled down to reveal a smiling Yulia, which was a rare sight that immediately made lan uncomfortable, given how he had grown accustomed to her somber expression. She was also the first to speak, offering placidly, "Where are you headed, stranger? I'll drop you off."
He held her gaze for a while and bit out coldly, "I'm not headed anywhere. I'm just out for a walk."
She nodded before she glanced around as she responded, "Well, hold on for a minute then. I happen to want to take a walk, too."
