Chapter 1871 The Peace That Would Not Come

Simon was infuriated by lan's remark. "What do you mean he deserves his inheritance? Hasn't he taken enough from the family? He has always taken more than what he has given, and now that everyone is supposed to have an equal claim on the fortune, his past contributions mean nothing, so why does he get to benefit the most?"

Contemptuously, lan pointed out, "Because the will says so."

That single sentence was all it took to rile Simon up and leave his breathing ragged with rage.

Indeed, Sean had every right to take a hefty chunk of the family fortune because the will said so, and no one could do or say anything about it.

Presently, Cindy could tell that lan no longer wanted to keep the conversation with Simon going, so she called out, "Hey, lan? Can you come over here and give me a hand with something?"

Playing along with her, lan replied, "Coming." With that, he addressed Simon coolly, "I have to go; I have been summoned. Bye."

As soon as he said this, he hung up the call without hesitation, not wanting to waste any more time on Simon and his inane plans.

He tossed his phone onto the couch, and as if unable to help himself, he grumbled darkly, "I don't know what they're thinking. Where do they get the audacity to even suggest such nonsense?"

Cindy sighed and walked up to him, wrapping her arms around his waist as she said, "I guess that was their last shot at getting more out of the will." After all, the trio had tried to suppress lan previously but to no avail, and now they were left with no choice but to needle Sean into giving up part of his inheritance.

If their plan did not work out and Sean still got to keep all his inheritance, then the matter of Bryce's will would end here for good.

It had only been moments since Simon's call ended that lan's phone rang once more, and this time it was Sean on the other line.

He was likely calling because he had found out about Simon's call, and he wanted more details. With that in mind, lan picked up. "Well, word sure does travel fast."

Sean heaved a weary sigh. "I got no word of anything, I promise you. Simon called me up just now and basically threw a fit over the phone, then claimed that he talked to you."

Despite himself, lan laughed. "Wow, the nerve of that guy! What did he tell you?"

Letting out a quiet breath, Sean replied, "He told me he called you to talk about the will and that you both agreed on how we should all have a table talk to sort out the matter."

"How brazen of him," lan remarked, a little exasperated.

Naturally, Sean trusted lan. "I didn't fall for it, of course. I just didn't think he'd be so thick-skinned to turn around and ask for your help. There are already buyers eyeing the Morgan Residence, and I reckon it won't be long before they strike a deal. We'll be able to cut them off entirely as soon as the property is sold."

lan nodded slowly. "I do agree that selling it will give us all a much easier time."

That much was true. As long as the Morgan Residence was on the market without there being a serious buyer, Sean and lan would still be tied to Leah and her children.

In fact, for the past few days, she and Simon had been making trips back to the residence, and they would linger there for hours on end. They had moved out willingly before this, but perhaps they were regretting the decision after realizing that life at the Morgan Residence was so much better, and they were now angling to move back in.

Thankfully, Sean had arranged in advance for security to keep Leah and her children out of the property. Her past few trips had ended up with her leaving sheepishly, having been barred from stepping foot into the main house.

But Sean had a feeling that they wouldn't give up that easily. Knowing them, they would fight until the very end to satisfy their greed.

Presently, lan told Sean that he had already contacted his attorney, who would be the one to deal with Sean directly regarding the handover of Bryce's estate.

On the other line, Sean hummed in agreement. "I want to get all this settled as soon as possible, too. We'll finally have peace after the assets have been distributed according to the will."

He's right, lan thought. I've been wanting to get these things settled, but now that I think about it, I bet Sean is even more anxious than I am.

He had managed to flee the chaos that surrounded the will, but Sean was still stuck in the same city with Leah and the others. With Leah's tendency to stir up trouble, she would come up with new ways to irritate Sean.

For some reason, lan suddenly felt like laughing. Sean was never too bothered by Leah and her children, but recently, he had been forced to see them hovering around his general vicinity all the time.

Bryce's death did not mark Leah's resignation from her efforts to annoy Sean, and she might even have doubled down on them. Even if the Morgan Residence was sold and the family fortune distributed, lan had a strong suspicion that Sean still wouldn't be safe from Leah's persistence.
