The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 742

‘Father probably never guessed anyone would enter his room,’ Madelyn thought. She noticed shoes beneath the door and the sound of approaching footsteps. Hurrying, she sat in her father’s chair and accidentally hurt herself. Wincing from the pain, she tried to stay still as Zach walked in.

Zach came in with his clothes speckled with water droplets and closed the door. “Did Dal wake you?”

Madelyn looked down. Dalton was not crying anymore, but his little face was flushed, and he gave a small cough. “Let me hold him. Your hand is still injured.”

Madelyn tightened her grip on Dalton. ” Why do you smell like gas? What happened?” Zach replied, “My car broke down on my way back. I fixed it. I’m going to hop in the shower now.”

“Okay.”

As Zach walked off, a nagging feeling told Madelyn he was hiding something. Once she was certain he was upstairs, she placed Dalton gently on the comfy couch. She hit a switch under the desk, and moments later, a shelf with an antique figurine started to shift. Surprise welled up inside her.

‘Kai was right! There’s really a hidden chamber in Father’s study!’

Driven by excitement, Madelyn entered. The motion-sensor light revealed a breathtaking sight: walls covered in photos of her mother and a chamber that looked like an old- fashioned dressing room. There was a carved wooden bed, a vintage vanity, and an antique wardrobe. But what captured her attention the most was a portrait of a woman in a blue dress decorated with roses. Her hair was styled in a timeless bun, pinned elegantly, and her soft smile was pure warmth. It was unmistakably Alicia Wood.

Madelyn, overwhelmed, drew closer. The woman in the portrait looked so much like her. She finally saw her mother’s famed beauty up close. Realizing her mother had once been the talk of Ventropolis stirred deep emotions within Madelyn.

“Mom, I… I’ve finally seen you… You’re even more beautiful than I imagined. Kai said I’d replace answers here. So, what are they?”

Madelyn looked at the bed where an old photo album lay on the neatly folded blankets. She opened it to a page with a black and white photo, its edges curling with age. The photo depicted a tall man with a distinguished face, wearing a coat.

A silver chain dangled from his neck, and he smiled warmly, his hands resting on her mother’s shoulders. Her mother’s face was lit up with a gentle smile. As Madelyn flipped through the album, she saw this man in numerous pictures, always beside her mother. ‘ Who is this man?’
