The Rotting Flesh Book 1: Escatology
Chapter 11: Inevitable End

The eaters were slowly making the door burge , they were exerting so much pressure on it that the iron rod which reinforced it was worthless. Tom's thoughts stumbled upon each other and he couldn't think properly, it was at moments like these where miracles were most appreciated. The scratching and rattling got louder almost as though the eaters were increasing in number. He decided to climb in top of one of the shelves close to the window to peep outside and immediately as he looked outside, his face went pale. It seemed as though more were being attracted by the ones that were trying to enter the store. Counting Tom saw ten.

"Tom wh what ts ts wrong" Theresa stuttered noticing how Tom's expression had turned from just fear to sheer terror

Hearing a metallic crackling sound drew their attention to the door, it was bending inwards and some of the eaters were already extending their hands inside. Quickly darting his eyes from one spot to another Tom looked for a way out.

How did things get to this damnit he thought

How were they going to make it out of this. Nomatter how he thought about it there was no way for them to escape this alive. As he stared into nothingness contemplating, it hit him, the office. He briskly hoped off the shelf without saying a word and yanked Theresa by the hand to the back office.

Immediately when he closed and locked the office door, the door to the store finally gave in and eaters flooded the room. They could just hear by the loud echoing groaning that these monsters were now in the empty store. Theresa she was sweating, trembling and were involuntarily flowed down her cheeks.

Oh Daddy, Daddy where are you she thought as she felt her feet and hands get cold

Tom was beginning to calming down thinking the eaters might go away after searching and not replaceing them, scratching at the office door jump started his heart. They were no banging, scratching and growling at the office door. This sent Theresa into a worser state of fear, she felt light headed and stumbled backwards about to fall. Tom noticed, opened an bottle of water then poured it on her, bringing her back to reality which wasn't as pleasant as it would feel under normal circumstances. For those few moments when she was about to pass out the worry, fear and heavy thoughts felt like nothing. It was like all weight of the world had been lifted from her shoulders, Tom pouring water on her and bringing her back made things even worse for her she withdrew and sat in a corner. Tom looked around for an escape and all he saw was a small window in the top right corner of the office. As he assessed the situation and realized a most terrifying fact. Tears rolled down his cheeks

So this is it for me ey he thought

Theresa was now curled up in a corner singing a lullaby trying to comfort herself but she was so scared the lyrics were coming out incorrectly.

"He he he's gottt th th whole worldd i i inn his handsss" she sang in a low voice as she swung back and forth where she was

Looking at the child memories of his past came flooding back, a child like her should not have to go through such horror.

{"You know Tom someday you are going to have someone look to you for answers"

"Like hell Tris i got you, you'll make that devision for me"}

Tom smirked

So you were right after all

He walked to Theresa and hugged the poor child who was almost lifeless with fear. For a moment she felt safe in his arms.

"T Tom" she stuttered astonished by his actions

"I want you to listen to me" he said

"Tom"

"Everything is going to be okay, i just want you to do me a favor okay" he said

"W what" she replied

"You see that window up there in the right corner of the office, i want you to exit through there" he said and immediately Theresa broke off from his grip

"What about you" she complained

"I'll be right behind you, don't worry" he tried hard to force a smile

Theresa felt a sharp pain on her forehead, she knew he was lying. He couldn't fit through that small window only she could. Tears started pouring out her eyes again

"I can't lose you too" she said in a low voice

These words touched Tom but he fought back the tears, he had to be strong, he had to be the adult.

"Please this is the first and last favor I'm asking of you" he said

"Tom" she was speechless

"Live for both of us, okay" he smiled and carried her up to the window

She peeped out and the coast was clear. She went out legs first and after a bit of struggle she finally got out. Landing outside she looked around and there was no one. She was in so much pain she wanted to scream but she had promised Tom she would live.

After she got out Tom took a chair and sat facing the door that was already budging. Only a fee pushes and all those bastards would bust in and tear him limb from limb.

Oh well, i guess this is the end of the road for me Trent. I'm sorry Trent, i hope i made you proud

He smiled closing his eyes awaiting his inevitable end

The door finally gave in. At that exact same time there was a loud bang which caused the building to shake and he felt a slight breeze. As he sat there waiting, nothing happened then he felt someone grip onto him.

Its sad it had to end this way he thought as he awaited the paralyzing pain of teeth sinking into him

"I won't let anyone take you away from me" a gentle female voice said
