IZZY

I look back at the vampires. I can’t help the growl that slips past my mouth.

The man cocks his head to the side. “You are not a wolf,” he says.

I shake my head.

“Why are you on our pack land?” I ask them. I can feel Puna stir, but she does nothing.

“If you are not a werewolf, then what are you?” Asks the woman.

The child looks up at me but is still. He has to be the same age as Allie.

“I’ll ask the questions,” I ask with a growl. “Why are you on our pack lands?”

Puna moves closer, and we become as one again; all three of them stare back in shock as they watch us.

“We asked you a question?” We say to them.

The man stutters slightly, “We didn’t mean no harm... we... we want to help in the fight against Amir,” he says.

We cock our head to one side and look at him, “What do you mean you want to help? You are vampires; we thought you were all followers of his,” we say.

But the woman and man hiss at us. “We don’t believe in what he is doing; he wants to shape every single supernatural being to his whim, especially the vampires. He wants to take over and make every supernatural suffer. He works with witches, sleeps with them, promises them greatness and power beyond. But when his sire was there, he was still in control, even if that pathetic old wolf thought otherwise. He needs the power of the panther to do it, as she can control everyone’s emotions; with the help of a witch. They will have her submitting and making sure she will have nothing left, no family, no mate and also no pack,” says the man, but he looks at me once more, then as if realization kicks in. His eyes go wide. “You are the panther that we wanted to replace. Why were you talking to that wolf? He helps them,” he says.

I look at them; Puna pulls back slightly. “I know he works for them, but he recently found his mate, who he thought was dead. She was taken away from him and tortured,” I say to them.

The man looks at me. “He was spelled then, like most of the wolves there.”

I nod. I want to believe what these three are saying, but how can I? They are vampires, after all.

“You are trying to work out whether to believe us,” says a small voice; I look at the child. He smiles at me, “I am 5 years old.”

I can’t help but stare back with a shocked expression; the woman laughs, “He has turned not so long ago, and we want him to be kept safe as Amir turned against his will him. He’s not sired to him, we would know, but he is special,” she says as she looks at the man, then back at me. “This is Archer. He was a warlock’s son, but his parents died. He has no power as far as we know, but Amir thought he would be something special. His mate messed up the spell. We don’t know what she has done to him, but he will grow soon, or he may grow up like a normal child,” she says and takes a step closer to me.

I can’t help but look at the boy; he seems innocent. His scent is off, but it is most definitely a vampire. But something shiny was around his neck. It was a pendant, shaped like a wolf.

“He needs your protection, like that wolf’s mate. He needs to be here with you, and we want to help too,” she says, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I look at her; I haven’t got a clue what to say to them. It’s not my pack, and I can’t just let anyone come onto the pack lands without informing Blake.

I sigh, “I will try to help you, but I need to talk to my mate first; he is the soon-to-be alpha,” I say to them.

I look around and land on the outskirts of the territory; Puna looks through my eyes and notices in the distance a little shack, which is known to some wolves around here as a place to go to make out. I only know as Kat pointed it out to me on the way into the town as she drove me into the town when she picked me up from the airport.

I turn and look back at the three vampires. “There is a shack a few yards in that direction,” I tell them as I point to which way to go. “Stay there, and I will bring my mate with me in a few minutes. I need to tell him some stuff, but I think he might need convincing about you.”

They all nod. “We will explain everything to your mate; we just need a chance to explain why we are here, and we will explain more in great detail when he comes,” says the man.

They all turn and walk off until the pack lands, but the man stops and turns to look at me. “I think I know a way of you getting your cat shifter books back. There are many followers of Amir’s that do not believe in his ways. They mainly follow him, as they fear what the witch can do. I have a sister who is there; she can be our eyes and ears, she can tell us when they are coming, but I have to say panther, you are the most powerful one,” he says.

“How would you know about me?” I ask him.

He looks at me and smiles. “I know more about you, your kind, and the different cat shifters there are,” he says, but hisses. “That pathetic old wolf. He always thought he was better than everyone else, including us. He hasn’t even read the connection about you and still hasn’t; I play dump you see panther, I helped the second in command, but he was too busy getting the other followers to notice that we were gone.”

He turns around and walks with the child and woman in the direction I sent them in, but he shouts, “You will make one hell of a Luna for this pack.”

I watch as they walk away, but they use their vampire speed and are out of sight like a flash.

I look around the outer part of the territory. I don’t know whether to trust them, but I don’t think that vampire, Amir or his witch know that their day is up soon.

I will kill them, and they will suffer.

I turn around and walk back to the pack. I know I am completely naked, but I need to walk back to the pack house. I need to think, should I trust the vampires?

Hell, should we trust Drake and his mate?

An image of Anya comes into view in my head, the look of her tortured. But something else was shouting at me, but I don’t know what it is. It felt like she knew more and didn’t even tell Drake about everything.

Puna is quiet; I think my questions stump her too.

We can read about other shifters, but vampires are not human; picking up if they lie is challenging, as they have no emotions.

I start my way back to the pack, holding the phone in my hand.

I need to talk to Blake. I need him to help me, but also I have to be careful with what I say. I have to remember that we have council members here too; I don’t trust them. Tilly helped before, but even her being here is not helping my emotions either.

I know I need to kill the witch and the lead vampire. I need to be away from the pack of wolves and everyone who is not a threat to me or everyone else. I need to work out who is and isn’t, but something tells me we are all in for some surprises, especially now that Drake is our inside man.

Well, let’s hope he is, oh I am killing a werewolf when I see him.
