The Sweet Pursuit by Golden Autumn -
Chapter 222
Back at the villa, George was working in the study. Suzy went straight to the bedroom and stood on the balcony to watch the scenery outside the manor.
In any case, she had good memories here, including getting the chance to hang out with Winona and Mrs. Merck.
There were footsteps approaching from behind her. Soon, the man grabbed her waist, held her in his arms, leaned over her ear, and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Suzy turned her head slightly and said in a low voice, "Winona broke up with Bennett. She's already booked an afternoon flight to Marriot."
George's face remained indifferent. He merely said, "Bennett's not a good person. For Winona's sake, it's good that they're splitting up."
Suzy chuckled and asked, "What about Mr. Laine? Is he a good person?"
George pinched her chin and forced her to look up. His thin lips were grinning as he replied," There's no one who's 100 percent good in this world, especially businessmen. It doesn't matter whether or not I'm a good person. You just have to think whether or not I'm a good
enough person for you."
Suzy looked into the man's deep eyes. For a moment, she thought that he might have heard Winona's conversation with her. She kept her face calm and smiled. "If you allow me to eat a tub of ice cream every day, Mr. Laine, I'm willing to admit that you're a good person."
George smiled kindly and said, "You wish!" Suzy, "..."
George chuckled lightly and turned her around. He picked her up and placed her on the flower stand in front of the iron fence before saying comfortingly, "Although I can't give you ice cream, I have another gift for you." "Huh?" Suzy looked at him curiously.
George took out a round velvet box from behind him and placed it in Suzy's hand. "Open it and take a look inside."
The corners of Suzy's eyes started twitching. It looked like a ring box... Was he giving her a ring? Did he not know what it meant to give a woman a ring? There was a flicker in Suzy's eyes. While trying to guess what George meant by this, she opened the box, then found that she had been overthinking again.
There was no ring inside the box. It looked more like a round badge that was larger than a normal penny. The golden badge had the Laine family's logo on it as well as the iconic castle silhouette of the manor. The crest was exquisitely crafted and very heavy.
Suzy raised her head in astonishment. "This is...?"
George said with a smile, "If you come to Cloud City in the future, you can come to the manor with this at any time. You can stay as long as you want."
Suzy had a sudden realization. This was akin to a manor's pass!
Fortunately, it was not some gold or silver jewelry, nor was it a ring with any special meaning to it. Hence, she could willingly accept this.
She flipped the crest to the back, looked at it, and asked, "Is this gold-plated?" George replied, "It's pure gold." Suzy, "..." She pointed to the ruby-like castle carving on the front. "What about this one?" George slowly explained, "They're diamonds and rubies with a little emerald." Suzy was silent for a moment before carefully putting the badge back into the box. "It's too precious. I'll put it away for now."
George wanted to tell her it did not matter. If she lost it, he would give her another one. However, before he had the chance to speak, he could hear Suzy muttering, "If I'm short of cash in the future, I can pawn it for a good price." George, "..."
Jessie had already arrived downstairs. George lowered his head and kissed Suzy on the lips before putting her back down. He said in a natural tone, "Let's go home!" Suzy's heart quickly skipped a beat. 'Go home? 'Is Royal Court our home?' Jessie took the two away from the manor and to the airport. They arrived at Royal Court before dark.
From the day they went to Cloud City and back, it had been exactly a week. As soon as George entered the door, he received a phone call and said to Suzy, "I have to head back to the Laine family's manor later. There are a couple of elders at home visiting as guests, and my father asked me to go back and meet with them."
Suzy nodded. "Go ahead. Don't make the guests wait for too long. I can head to Nelly's for dinner."
"There's no rush. I can leave when it gets dark." George took off his suit jacket, but the phone rang again. It was James.
