Chapter 139

Fiona was furious and intended to talk back. However, the moment she met Walter's calm eyes, she felt a surge of guilt. As Shakira said, she stayed home indeed because she feared being mocked by those socialites and the medical field. She looked at Walter pitifully and attempted to explain, "Walter, actually I..."

Walter directly interrupted her, "Why did you suddenly come here?"

"Uh." Fiona paused to ponder how to answer the question. Certainly she shouldn't say that she rushed over after hearing he was gonna have a physical exam. Walter hated others prying into his affairs, and she didn't dare to touch his bottom line.

After a while, Fiona had a brainwave. She blinked and said with a smile, "You know, the diplomatic summit is coming, I'm here to ask you to organize a gathering. Please help me invite Kyle and some other friends, so we can discuss business ahead of time." Walter had no reason to refuse, considering they'd been cooperating with the Banks family in some projects. Thus he said, "I'll have Benji arrange it tonight."

Fiona's eyes sparkled with delight. "Great! I'll go get ready for tonight. See you then!" said she happily.

After Fiona left, the doctors tidied up their equipment and departed as well. Walter glanced at Shakira, who was deep in thought with her head down, and suddenly asked, "Do you like the food I brought you last time?"

Shakira came back to her senses and raised her head in confusion. Not until half a minute later did she realize what Walter was saying. She answered, "The food you brought that night? It was delicious."

Walter nodded and continued, "Then take a rest. We'll go to that restaurant tonight."

Shakira understood what he meant and widened her eyes in surprise. "I'm going too? I think it's improper for me to be present while you guys are discussing business."

Walter instantly narrowed his eyes, a dangerous chill in them. "So you think it's proper to trouble me to bring you food once again?"

Shakira quickly waved her hand and explained, "No, that's not what I meant..." But before she could finish her words, Walter had turned his wheelchair away. His cold voice sounded, "Go eat personally if you wanna taste them again." Shakira was speechless looking at his leaving figure. Walter treated her like a piggy? How could she immerse herself in food when they were talking about business? When did she create such a "glutton" image in his heart?!

In the evening, Berry called Walter after finishing a day's courses, asking him softly if he had time to have dinner together. But Walter asked her to replace Brian saying he was busy, which made her a bit depressed. Brian was just an assistant and could help nothing! Berry clasped her phone, her pretty and innocent face twisting with frustration. Though she needed Yvette to give her some ideas, she didn't wanna embarrass herself with this. She must prove that she was better than Shakira and Yvette on her own! When Berry was scrolling through her phone restlessly, she suddenly saw a photo Calton just updated on his instagram. After their last meeting, she nerved herself and added him to her list, hoping to get closer to Walter by approaching his friends. Back then, Kyle declined her saying he didn't use instagram and Cavin said his friend list was full. Only Calton added her. With this thought in mind, Berry opened Calton's chat window and typed after thinking for a while: [Sorry to bother you, Mr. Jennings. I forgot the address of the dinner tonight. Could you tell me?]

Calton quickly replied: [Veiled Vine]. But after a few seconds, he asked again: [Walter invited you?]

Berry didn't reply and quickly exited the chat window, grasping her phone nervously. Her heart was pounding after she lied. Calton didn't receive a reply and felt kinda strange. But he didn't dwell on it, thinking Berry wouldn't cause any trouble as a member of the White family. Veiled Vine was the place where Walter and his friends usually gathered. Kyle was the first to arrive, and then were Calton and Gavin. Several minutes later, Fiona and Benji met at the entrance and walked in together. The young heirs from other influential families that were in partnership with them were last to arrive.

Berry convinced the Veiled Vine staff to lead her to the gathering room by using the same excuse and showing them her chat history with Calton. All eyes fell on her as she entered the room, which made her heart race wildly. Fiona jumped to her feet, her eyes blazing with anger and disdain. She sneered, "Who allows you to appear here?"

Berry knew Fiona came from a wealthy family and was close with this group. She couldn't help but tremble with fear, her gaze glancing around the room. As Walter hadn't come, she had to look at Calton and stuttered, "Mr. Jennings, I..." Calton rubbed the back of his head and asked in surprise, "She said Mr. Lopez had invited her."

Fiona immediately put on a hostile face and asked in a rage, "What's her relationship with Walter?"

Calton shrugged and said casually, "Just friends, I assume?"

Fiona gave Berry several scrutinizing glances and sneered, "Impossible. We're discussing business tonight. Walter won't let an outsider come here. She probably got wind that Walter would be here tonight and came without permission."

Hearing that they would discuss business tonight, Berry grew more anxious-she'd thought it was a simple party. Calton, knowing exactly he was the "leaker", shut his mouth with a guilty face. Then he noticed Berry's nervous expression, confusion and doubt arising in his heart.

As Shakira and Walter entered the room, Berry was standing awkwardly by the door, wishing there were a hole which she could bury herself in. The moment she saw Walter, she instinctively moved towards him but halted when she spotted Shakira behind him, unsure of what to do.

Greatly terrified, she looked at Walter and sobbed, "Mr. Lopez..."

Walter frowned and asked, "Why are you here?"

Berry whimpered, "I haven't seen you for so long. I knew you would have dinner with your friends here, so I came to see you..." Hearing this, Walter furrowed his eyebrows more tightly. He subconsciously glanced at Shakira, his eyes flickering when seeing Shakira watching Berry with interest.

Seeing Berry already irritated Fiona, and Shakira's appearance made her even angrier. "Walter!" she stormed over in a rage and almost growled. "Aren't we supposed to talk about business tonight? Why did you have two unrelated people here? Then how can we discuss our thing?"

Everyone present could tell who the "two unrelated people" Fiona was insinuating. Face darkening, Walter said in a deep voice, "You can eat if you don't want to talk. If you don't want food either, then you can leave. Any question?"
