The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 124
Chapter 124:
? ? ? ? ?
Caden looked at Hank and said bluntly, “Dream on.”
Hank wasn't sure how to react.
Despite the dismissive response, Hank soon cheered up and continued with his tasks.
"Mrs. Ward has rescheduled her visit to Warrington for next month. I have preselected a few houses and bodyguards for her. Would you like to make the final decision?" Hank informed him.
Caden agreed.
The thought of Ciara's arrival was hardly comforting. She could be unpredictable, and just thinking about her upcoming visit was giving him a headache.
Meanwhile, Alice carefully followed the doctor's instructions. She took her medications on time and received all her treatments. After a week, she was finally ready to leave the hospital.
Monica arrived to help her with the discharge paperwork.
Meanwhile, Alicia and Caden had come to an agreement and she had managed to gather solid evidence of Joshua's affair during their marriage.
Joshua hadn't been in touch with her lately. He'd been busy managing his company's IPO and dealing with Lilliana's return to the spotlight.
Lilliana was busy creating an image of herself as a mother-to-be, crafting a more sentimental persona for her public presence.
With financial support, he was already making progress on this new approach.
Monica mocked the news. “So the lip-sync scandal has gone away? “The Internet is quick to forget.”
Alicia stood in line, scrolling through her phone with a calm expression.
"Showbiz made her what she is and it will tear her down just as quickly. We just have to be patient," he replied.
The more evidence she gathered, the greater Lilliana's fall.
Alicia put away her phone and took out her bank card, ready to pay the medical bills.
Suddenly, a desperate voice cuts through the noise of the hospital. “Please, doctor! I beg you to save my sister. I swear I will replace the money in three days. Please help her now.”
Alice turned to face the commotion.
A young woman clung to a doctor's white coat, her expression desperate. The doctor seemed equally helpless. "I'm very sorry, but your medical expenses are considerable. I can't pay them," he explained.
“Please operate first! I promise to pay the bills little by little later, please! “I beg you.”
the woman begged desperately, falling to her knees and clinging to the doctor's leg.
The doctor sighed, unable to comfort her.
A crowd had gathered. Some watched with curiosity, others were indifferent, and a few seemed genuinely compassionate.
Alice frowned at the scene and began walking towards the grieving woman.
Monica grabbed her arm. “Alicia, are you really going to help?”
Alice replied, “It looks familiar. “I want to see what happens.”
Monica hesitated for a moment, but seemed moved by the woman's desperate cries. "Okay, I'll go with you."
Alicia pushed her way through the crowd until she reached the woman.
As she approached, Alice recognized her as Lilliana's assistant.
Without hesitation, Alice bent down and helped the woman up.
The assistant's face looked exhausted and her eyes unfocused. Although Alicia was holding her, she was still clinging to the doctor's coat, refusing to let go.
The doctor spoke softly. “I will help you start a fundraising campaign. That is all I can do for now.” With these words, he turned and walked away.
The assistant tried to follow her, but she was too exhausted. She collapsed right in front of Alice.
Seeing the crowd watching her, Alice decided to get the assistant away from the scene. She found a quiet hallway where they could sit down.
Monica soon returned with a bottle of water.
Alice comforted the assistant. Eventually, she managed to calm her down. However, the assistant was still crying.
“Thank you… I have to go back to see my sister. Thank you for comforting me,” says the assistant, preparing to leave.
Alice gently took her hand. “What illness does your sister have?” she asked.
The assistant seemed to recognize Alice, but avoided looking at her eyes.
She was not willing to share the details.
Alice was unsure of the assistant's character, but it was clear that she was in a desperate situation.
Alice thought that she could help her and that maybe it was worth taking the opportunity.
The assistant felt a wave of guilt and hurried away. Alice didn't try to stop her. In those few moments, Alice had already made up her mind. "If you need help, don't hesitate to ask. I'm sure you know how to get in touch with me."
The assistant hesitated for a second. Then she turned and ran, avoiding looking back.
Alice watched her stumble away and let out a sigh.
Monica spoke up, breaking the silence. “I remember now. She's Lilliana's assistant. I've seen her in pictures on the internet. If she's ever kneeled down in front of a doctor, she must be desperate. Either Lilliana doesn't know anything about this, or she's simply refusing to help. Alicia, are you going to do something for her?”
Alicia felt torn.
I needed to talk to Caden about this.
“I’ll go check on your sister first,” Alice said. “Monica, thanks for being here with me. You can go if you have things to do. “I’ll just take a quick look.”
Monica shook her head. “I don't have anything urgent. “I’ll go with you.”
The assistant's name was Gina Mendoza, and her sister, Harley Mendoza, had a brain tumor. The tumor was causing nerve compression, making surgery risky. That's why they had initially opted for conservative treatment.
Now, an emergency had arisen and Harley needed immediate surgery. The cost was enormous. It ran into hundreds of thousands of dollars, an amount Gina simply did not have.
That explained why Gina had gotten down on her knees and begged the doctor earlier.
After wiping away her tears, Gina went to get some food for her sister. She spent a lot of time coaxing Harley to eat some, but it all ended up being in vain as Harley threw it all up.
Harley was still young, but her face was pale and she was so weak that she didn't even have the strength to cry.
Gina stood with her back to the door, wiping away tears as her shoulders visibly shook.
Alicia watched her from the other side of the window, her heart heavy.
The hospital had already started the fundraising campaign, and Alicia made a contribution. Harley had nothing to do with the mess that had been caused.
After a while, Alicia and Monica decided to part ways. Alicia didn't waste any time. She immediately sent a message to Caden.
"I need to see you immediately."
Caden read the message and quickly responded. “Go to the apartment.”
After answering, he went to buy some condoms.
