The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 133
Chapter 133:
? ? ? ? ?
“She was the one who started all this. “She asked for it!” Raquel exclaimed.
Joshua showed no interest in his words. “Go away. Alicia can’t see you now.”
Determined not to waste her visit, Rachel continued. “Mr. Yates, I had no idea you still had feelings for Alicia. Otherwise, I wouldn't have treated you like that. Don’t we deserve a chance to work things out?”
Joshua sat back cross-legged as he lit a cigarette, letting her ramble on. The disdain etched on his face was unmistakable. Under his intense gaze, Rachel felt a wave of humiliation wash over her. Her voice shook as she replied, “But it was the Reyes family that harassed her. Why should we have to suffer the consequences?”
Joshua exhaled a cloud of smoke. “The Gray family has a lot of money and influence, and Randolph is very capable. “I taught him a little lesson, and you’re already struggling to get ahead?”
Rachel felt her frustration boil over. “Randolph owes $300 million and is facing trial! You call that a little lesson?”
Joshua's face turned grim. “$300 million?” When he acted, he had expected Randolph to lose only a few million. How had I gotten to $300 million?
Seeing the confused expression on his face, Rachel suspected that he was pretending not to know anything.
She wiped away her tears, feeling humiliated. Despite her anger, she tried to be polite. “The damage has been done and we acknowledge our mistakes. Mr. Yates, please allow me to apologize. Stop this and give us a way out.”
Joshua felt that something was wrong. He asked, “Did the Gray family lose $300 million? How did it happen?”
Rachel didn't understand his question. Did he replace it funny?
Under his intense gaze, Rachel spoke truthfully. “Randolph embezzled money in the past. The evidence was turned over to the authorities. After ends, it all added up to $300 million.”
"Who reported it?"
"Wasn't it you?"
“If it was me who told it, would I be asking you this now?” Joshua was no fool. He would never push the Gray family to the limit for a woman. He simply wanted to teach Randolph a lesson.
In fact, I didn't even plan to leave a trace.
When Rachel arrived at the Yates mansion today, she was shocked at how quickly she had been discovered. It seemed that someone had deliberately targeted Randolph and made him take the blame.
Rachel was completely baffled. “You're saying it wasn't you? Who else could it be? Mr. Ward?” Joshua's eyes narrowed. “What makes you say that?”
Rachel struggled to think clearly. She didn't know what to say.
Under pressure from Joshua, he finally opened up. “Because lately, Alicia is the only person Randolph has crossed paths with. Aside from you, Mr. Ward is the only one who would defend her.”
“What is Caden’s relationship with Alicia? Why would he defend her?” Joshua asked, clearly displeased. “Do you know anything?”
Rachel had no information to share. However, she despised Alicia with every fiber of her being. If it hadn't been for that woman, the Gray family wouldn't be in this predicament.
“The day Alicia was bullied, Caden was the one who stood up for her. I remember when I found her in the pool; he was more anxious than anyone. “I pulled her out and performed CPR on her right away.”
Joshua had a stern expression.
Rachel couldn't help but continue speaking. "Alicia is your ex-wife and Mr. Ward is your brother. How can that be appropriate? They were so close that day. I bet there's something between them."
The Gray family had buried the details of that day. Joshua knew Alicia had been hurt, but that was all he understood.
It turned out the backstory was pretty scandalous.
Joshua scoffed. At first, he thought Caden was the only one interested in Alicia and that Alicia had no interest in Caden, but now he realized he might have been wrong. It takes two to form a connection.
He wasn't worried about the $300 million, as it didn't affect him much. What he needed now was to see Alicia immediately.
He stood up and motioned for Georgia to escort Rachel out. Rachel looked surprised. “Mr. Yates, I came to see you today to…”
Joshua was in no mood to hear any more. He walked away and called out to Alicia.
Meanwhile, Alice was at the supermarket doing her shopping. Anxious, she answered the call.
“Where are you?” Joshua's voice was full of anger.
Alice sensed that something was wrong. Not knowing what was happening, she cautiously replied, “I'm at the supermarket buying some things. What’s wrong?”
Joshua paused before saying, “Mrs. Gray came to the Yates mansion, saying she wanted to apologize to you.”
Alicia's heart raced. Why would Rachel go to the Yates Mansion to apologize to her?
Considering the delicate nature of the situation, Alicia was worried that Rachel might say something inappropriate. She quickly returned the items in her cart and rushed back to the Yates Mansion.
Upon arriving, she realized she should have informed Caden. However, Joshua was already waiting outside the door.
She approached him immediately, looking through the door.
“Didn’t you say she wanted to apologize to me?” I have asked. “Where is she?”
Joshua stared at her. He had thought about many things while he was waiting for her, but he still needed to hear it from Alicia.
