Chapter 188:

? ? ? ? ?

Alicia needed to buy some basic necessities.

She asked, “Hank mentioned that the new product is selling fast. Can I get a bonus?”

Caden replied, “Ten percent of the profits.”

Surprised, she exclaimed: "That much?"

Caden remained unfazed. “It's pocket change.”

She declined the offer. “I don't need the money. Let me shop in peace tonight.”

He thought she might splurge on something extravagant. He generously gave her a card.

"Buy whatever you want."

Immediately, she began filling the cart with various pink and white bedding sets, pajamas, socks, slippers and more.

He was speechless.

When she saw a lace towel, she couldn't help but remark, "Do you want two of these hidden things?"

"One for you and one for me," Alice replied.

He stood there bewildered, knowing he would never use such an item.

After finishing their shopping, they went to the checkout. Alice impulsively grabbed a pair of red socks and added two pairs of matching socks.

She looked up to see Caden's reaction, but instead caught a suspicious glance from a stranger.

The area was crowded and chaotic.

She noticed a man in a baseball cap quickly slipping through the crowd and instinctively tugged on Caden's sleeve.

"I think they're following us," he whispered.

Caden put his arms around her waist and looked around.

"Don't worry. After Joshua's terrible experience, it's understandable that he's seeking revenge, but his partners don't have the capacity to harm us," he reassured her.

Alice felt a wave of relief.

Suddenly, Caden asked, “Who's your emergency contact?”

"Contact?"

Alice's gaze darkened.

"It used to be my dad's, but after he passed away, I programmed it to speed dial the police."

Caden picked up his phone and programmed his number into it.

"Contact me immediately if anything happens. I'm faster than the police."

A wave of bitterness washed over Alice, her eyes shining. “Okay.

Back home, Alice wasted no time in vigorously redecorating.

It buzzed around the room, living up the dingy furniture like a busy little hamster.

Caden, sipping a glass of water, joked, “Were you always this active with Joshua?”

Alice shook her head. “He never liked messing with his stuff, so I just cleaned and cooked.”

“I don't like it either. Why do you think it’s okay to touch mine?” Caden challenged.

Alicia, holding a pile of disposable items, gave him a look. “If it bothers you, you can sleep with Cade.”

Caden was speechless.

After finishing her chores outside, Alice headed to the bedroom.

“Hurry up and help me change the bedclothes!” she shouted.

The thought of the pink, lace-trimmed bedding set made Caden uneasy, but he couldn't resist and followed her into the bedroom.

The bright pink was stark, but the sight of Alice lying in it was irresistibly captivating.

Desire overwhelmed Caden.

Then she removed the damp bedclothes and washed them. Alice's eyes, tinged red with fatigue, conveyed her exhaustion.

Aware of the ominous presence of the Yates family, his thoughts turned to Gina.

The next night she visited the hospital to see Gina. With Harley about to be discharged, Alice handed Gina some money.

"Leave Warrington immediately. Find a small town where you and Harley can live out your lives without worry. And don't come back," he ordered firmly.

Gina caught up on the latest news.

The Yates family was in chaos.

Every time Caden brought his misconduct to light, the Yates and Green families attempted to suppress the information.

However, they continued to face significant setbacks.

“Joshua has fallen, but the Green family remains unharmed. If they trace things back to you, you could be in danger,” Alicia warned, quickly comforting Gina. “Don't worry, though. Their influence is limited to Warrington. You and Harley will be safe elsewhere.”

Gina expressed her deep gratitude.

"Thank you, Miss Bennett."

Alice smiled in response. “It's nothing. “I should thank you for your bravery.”

Gina held her hand firmly. “If you ever need anything, come to me. No matter the distance, I’ll be there.” Alicia felt a surge of warmth at Gina's gesture.

Harley's discharge from hospital was carried out discreetly.

Joshua, overwhelmed by recent events, had not kept an eye on Gina. When I realized, a week had already passed.

After that hectic week, Joshua finally found some time to rest.

Physically and mentally exhausted, he sought medical attention.

Unfortunately, the results of his blood tests raised concerns. “Have you ever used any psychotropic substances?” the doctor asked curiously. Joshua replied: “No.”

I was too worried to take medication, let alone psychotropic drugs.

The doctor then pointed out an unusual replaceing. “There are traces of a peculiar drug in her system, normally used to control heat in cattle.” Joshua found the revelation absurd.

Reflecting on her past strange reactions while living at the Yates mansion - in particular her inexplicable nausea during intimate moments with Lilliana - she became suspicious.

His attitude tightened. “Investigate this substance. Find its source and report to me immediately.” He has emphasized his urgency by placing a check on the desk.
